Crazy Strong and Loving It for Jul 29, 2009

I decided to skip Plyo legs this morning and instead did Wednesdays workout - 4ds HIS/LIS cardio premix. I love 4ds! I love the music and the step work. I burned 427 calories. Now its back to work for this hooky. :(

Hello to all that follow :)

Good morning,

Sorry, I am very late getting us started today. Today 2 years ago, my mom passed away. It always brings back so many memories. DH and I just came back from the cemetery in Nuernberg. Usually it takes us one hour to drive there, but for some reason there was one detour after the other today. It took us 1 ½ hour both ways today. I just got a phone call from my sister in Nuernberg, she just got in an car accident, way today? She is ok, but her car is isn’t! I am thankful she is ok, the car you can replace!

I will do M1 D5 today and I also NEED to work my abs. I think, it will help me to release same stress .

My best to all.

Morning! I did 4DS HIS including cardio and weights today. I went up in weights on most things, so that made me happy. My back felt really strong today- gotta love that.

Belinda: What a day you've had! Glad your sister is OK. I'm sorry about your mom, too. So your parents lived in Germany, then? Were you born there?

Karen: I love those step workouts too, especially now that I figured out combo #3 in HIS. Did you get a lot done yesterday?

Gotta get a few things done around here. BBL.

Looks like everyone is off to a good start. I should have gotten my lazy rear out of bed this morning when DH left to go swim. I just couldn't think of a DVD I wanted to do that early. Nothing sounded appealing at all. Maybe I just need a rest day, but then that means working out on Friday, and I usually reserve that as my off day. Hmmmm, decisions decisions. Oh, and Dillard's has their markdowns an additional 30% off today. Really a sign from above that I don't need to workout today! ;)

Patti - what is it with that one combo???? I am usually able to get her combos the first time around. That one just stumps me for some reason. She must have really worked hard on that one! LOL.

Belinda - I'm sorry to hear about your mom and the morning you've had. Hope it all gets better. A good workout is always a stress reliever for me to.

Karen - I hope you got a lot accomplished while playing hooky. I'm jealous. I can't ever get my DH to play hooky with me to get things done around the house.

Heather

Heather: When I say I've got it, it means that after the workout about a month ago, I went back and watched it 10 times, no kidding. I finally figured out that I had to start the shuffle with the same foot as the direction I was going, if that makes sense, and turn into the step before I did the hitch kick. Even once I "got" it, I usually stumble through it the first or second time. Then when she puts it all together, I still miss it sometimes. Argh. But it's better than it was. OK, that was really long winded. :D

Morning all! Two more days to STS. Really looking forward to it!!!

Belinda - Sorry about your mom. Believe me, I know how hard it is. :(

Good Morning,

Tonite is ME upper body split with abs. I am watching and infomericial for some diet program that allows you to eat normal foods and still loose wt by balancing protein with fast carbs and slow carbs, don't know what its called. I managed to eat 1400 cals yesterday. We have a sales rep coming in today and she usually takes us to lunch. TTOM has hit so I don't feel good and don't feel like working out.

Belinda-hugs to you. My dad died 16 years ago and I still miss him like crazy he was a special man.

Hey Everyone...

Going to go do Jillian Michaels Burn Fat, Build Muscle workout in a few. Even though it's muggy, stick-icky out (and in my house!), I'm looking forward to it, since it will be my first time with Jillian...

Belinda: SO sorry to hear about your mom. those anniversaries suck. 2 years is so recent (((hugs))). Hope your workout helps you get distracted for a bit.

Karen: LOVE HIS/LIS too! Those are good ones to do togetherr!

Patti: Are you doing a 4DS rotation too? It took me a bit, but I have gotten that infamous HIS combo down. it sure feels good when you can do it, doesn't it?

Heather: When is the last time you took a rest week? It seems maybe your body is asking for one. I know it's hard to do mentally though.

Debbie: Cool you're starting STS soon! I hope you love it!!

Roxie: Sorry TOM has gotten you down. Sometimes working out makes you feel better. I'm so grateful my GYN started me on BCP's, it's helped 99% with PMS and TOM!

I better go start..it's getting late!!!

Chris - it's been since the first of June since I took a "rest" week. That was while I was on vacation and right after STS Meso 2. I still ran every day though, just no weights. I just really really need to find some new cardio to do that I enjoy. I also need to find some that is not always high intensity. I have a really bad tendency to go full force all the time. Example, I do Imax 2 and 3 and SB at least once a week (8" step).

When I do the lower intensity step workouts or kickboxing workouts, I get ticked b/c my HR isn't up there and I'm not burning the same calories (usually about half). I feel like I have to go for even longer when I just want to be done. That HR monitor was both a blessing and a curse!

I was taking BC pills but script ran out so I will start again next month on those and I did feel a whole lot better it just sucks that I had my tubes tied so I didn't have to take them but ended up on them again any way.

Well if I eat everything scheduled today I will be at almost 1500 cals.

Brkfst.- hostess cinnamon streusel cake I know not so good but my stomach was upset and I was afraid I would throw up.
AM snack-strawberry shortcake yogurt
Lunch-if sales rep doesn't bring anything pb sand, cucumbers and peach
PM snack-peas in the shell, nectarine, laughing cow cheese wedge and crackers.
Supper-grilled chicken tenderloins, fettucine alfredo small portion and salad.

Well Jillian kicked my butt! I was a little leary in the beginning, because it didn't start OUT kickbutt, but it ended up that way!! Doesn't help that I was totally drenched in sweat due to the almost 80% humidity. I was thinking of adding on a SB or SJP step add-on, but I was spent at the end.

I SHOULD do some yoga later, if I can...

My boys are wild today though (the 2 younger ones) and I really need to get to the grocery store. Going to get fixings for your salad, Bev! I'm just not sure what kind of roast beef to buy.... Could you use chicken?

Heather: Maybe you need a good week of stretching/walking? I know when i've done a rest week like that, I'm always so much more enthusiastic to go back to my cardio and weights for that matter. Or if you can't do it, maybe just go with shorter cardios? premixes of IM2, 3 or SB? I'm sure it's got to be good to do lower intensity workouts to mix in with the higher.

Roxie: eats look pretty good, except for the cinnabun, which you know. Otherwise, not bad and you did better with calories yesterday too!!!

Chris - you must be certifiably crazy for even thinking of adding on cardio in that humidity and heat! LOL. Hope you get that AC fixed soon. Good job on persevering though!

I need to try to get out and go for hikes or something. But this time of year it gets so hot so early. We've had so much rain that trails are soggy too. My DH bikes and keeps wanting to get me a bike too. Maybe I should as another option. I'm just really clumsy and am sure I'd hurt myself. The last time I went roller blading I ended up with a concussion if that tells you anything. How I manage step (or how I did ballet) just baffles my family.

I do have a few other step DVDs by folks less intense like Amy Bento and Seasun Zieger. I really need to break those out and do them. They just aren't as fun to me.

No kidding!, Heather, I hope the humidity counts for something, do you think it adds to the intensity of the workout?

OMG, Biking! this Spring I got a bike for my birthday, haven't ridden in years. I LOVE it! I don't ride on trails, but more rode biking. I do side streets, hills, etc. I feel like I'm a kid again when I get to peddle really really fast and then fly down a hill! LOL!. It's a great less intense cardio!!

Chris: I forgot to mention that I made your lime chicken you posted a while back- very good! I loved the red wine vinegar in it- totally yum. I made it and then marinated the chicken in all of the liquid ingredients for 2 hours, poured it all in a pan and cooked it pretty fast- it was good that way. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks.

Bev: I can't wait until post RT- that salad is on my list.

Heather: I used to have that problem with cardio- even did one of Cathe's 90 minute rotations that had mad cardio in it. But I think at some point it is about diminishing returns. I never lost weight any faster (I know that isn't your goal) or really had any additional improvements or benefits from doing that much. Plus, my theory is that if I don't kill myself with 60 minutes everyday, on the days I do do cardio I can give a lot more energy to it. And lately, my HRM is in a box- I was making myself nuts. Just my ramblings...

Roxie: Good for you on 1500 calories. :)

Debbie: Question on one of your rotations for muscle building. I am trying to focus on hypertrophy in this next rotation that I do so I picked one of your muscle building ones, obviously. Anyway, here is week 1, for instance.

Day 1: a.m. S&H Chest only/Power Hour Chest only, Coremax #1; p.m.
yoga of choice.
Day 2: S&H Back only (do supermans, prone planks & supine planks
after PH), PH Back only, Cardio & Weights step only premix.
Day 3: S&H Shoulders only/PH Shoulders only, abs from Kick, Punch &
Crunch.
Day 4: a.m. S&H Tri's only/PH Tri's only, 10-10-10 cardio only; p.m.
Yoga of choice.
Day 5: S&H Bi's only/PH Bi's only, Step Blast premix doing Combo 1,
3 & Challenge (44 min.)
Day 6: S&H Legs only/PH Legs only
Day 7: REST or Stretch Max #1

Should I leave in the PH segments, even though they are endurance? Would I be better off doing only wos that are more hypertrophy (PS, 4DS in part, GS, S&H)? I like the variety in these so I would like to leave them in, just don't want to hurt what I'm trying to do. Am I over thinking this, lol? Thanks.

Patti - I'm not even trying to lose weight is the sick part of it. I do have an irrational fear that I'll start to gain weight if I lessen the cardio. I've just gotten myself in a vicious cycle I think and it's going to be more of a mental issue to tackle than anything.

I have cleaned up my eating so that I could see the benefits from STS. That worked so well that I've become OCD about trying to maintain those results. On the flip side, I'm not OCD enough to start calculating calories. I don't always eat perfect, I indulge in pizza at least once a week and do enjoy wine with dinner. But no more chips with a sandwich, trying to eat cleaner less refined stuff including starting to cut out a lot of the meat substitute products. So, I know I'll never look perfect (whatever that really means) b/c there are some things I don't want to do without b/c life is just too short to forgo all the goodies!

Oh - and I've been playing around with rotations too. I haven't included any of the muscle endurance add ons. So Debbie - I may have one for you to look at too.

Heather

Leave them in. It gives the muscles a really good burn on top of the building phase. If for some reason you don't like it after doing a coupld workouts, then leave out PH.

Hi ladies. Sorry I'm late checking in. We're getting company tomorrow and they are staying until Sunday so I'm trying to get ready. I did Cardio & Weights this morning. HSC was on the rotation but I don't have that one and I LOVE the 3rd combo on C&W because of the song so that's why I did it. It has a huge fun factor for me.

Looks like everyone is having a good workout day.

Debbie-I can't wait to hear what you think of STS!

Chris-I would think you could use chicken in the salad. I know that it sounds strange to have watermelon in there but it's really good. I had it again today for lunch.

Patti-So you leave tomorrow??? Have a blast for me too! I can't wait to hear about it.

Belinda-I'm sure this is a very hard day for you and just know that we are all thinking about you.

Heather-oh my gosh you really do hit the cardio hard don't you! I wish I could still do that but I tore my calf 2 years ago from doing too much step so my leg just won't take it anymore. I couldn't do any cardio for 6 long months and thought I would gain back the 50 lbs but thanks to upping my strength training, I didn't! So that kind of proved to me that I needed to continue with the strength. I admire anyone that can use the 8" step! You go girl.

Roxie-I hope you feel better. I know that working out used to help my cramps.

Nora-just wanted to say hi and have a good workout. You always do!

Time to get back to work on cleaning.

Bev

Hi girls!;)

I'm just stopping by with my check in for today's workout:

High Step Challenge= 68 minutes

Calories burned= 616

That's it for me today, I feel like I'm not doing enough I usually like to make my workouts closer to two hours in length, but its too darn hot here. Yesterday was 108 degrees, and today its supposed to be at least that hot or hotter, Yikes~!! My MS doesn't play well with those kinds of temps so I do the best I can and lower my expectations on what I can physically do because of the heat. I hate that!! Oh well.

Belinda- thank goodness your sister is ok, that's what is important. Hang on to the positives in your day. I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed away some time ago and this is the anniversary of that day. That's always tough, I'm sure she's watching over you, your sister, and family. I know that's how I like to think of my grandparents as watching over me. That way I know they are always with me, it seems to help. Hang in there kiddo, Hugs!!!;)
Nice workout you got planned for today, WTG!!!

Hugs, to everyone and I hope you all had great workouts for today. I'm getting really excited about Shock Cardio, Love reading the blogs about it. Have a great day!

Hugs! :);)
