Core secrets

I am thinking of getting core secrets to supplement my Cathe workouts.
Does anyone have these? What do you think of the workouts? I want something a little bit different.

I have the Total Body Challenge DVD and its not super difficult, probably good for an easy day. If you are looking for a great workout with weights on the ball, I think the Fitball Upper and Lower Body Challenge DVDs are much smarter purchases.

I'm glad someone asked this question b/c my lower body is STILL recovering from the Core Secrets "Bun Battle" workout I did 2 days ago. I consider myself an advanced exerciser who is still battling the last few postpartum pounds. (My litle guy just turned 1 last week....but he is my second and my baby weight this time around has been VERY STUBBORN). I wanted to really work my hips, thighs, and butt area in a different way. Doing Cathe's lower body workouts are good, but I just wasn't feeling the workout in certain places as much I as knew I should.

Now mind you, while I was doing this little 20 minute workout I was thinking "This is silly...what a piece of cake. I know this is not doing much". I could barely walk yeserday. By last night, I was hobbling. I could only struggle through about half of Low Max yesterday. I am still feeling it today. It has really hit the muscles in my inner thighs, outer thighs (SADDLEBAGS), and butt area. I haven't tried any of the other Core Max workouts, but I HIGHLY recommend Bun Battle to anyone looking for a good lower body workout.

I hope this helps.
Jessi:)

I love Core Secrets! Gunnar Peterson, the instructor, is fun and motivating. The moves are very functional. I have both the originals (all on the ball) and a newer set (1 all on the ball, 1 half on the ball and half off, and 1 off the ball). I find that these work wonderfully for recovery weeks, when I focus on balance, core and functional fitness. Then I can get back into more traditional weight work with a bit of extra "oomph" and having worked the support muscles a bit more.

I'm looking forward to the newest ones, which include an upper body workout and a lower body workout.

One thing I find is that there are very few reps for each exercise, but I usually get in extra reps while Gunnar is setting up the move. And I find that the moves in the "Off the Ball" workout and the standing moves in the 1/2 ball, 1/2 off the ball workout really work the glutes and legs in a different way than usual that is very effective. Lots of one-legged squats, 1-legged reaching lunges, the core used for virtually every move.

For those who want nothing less than Cathe intensity, these would be too low intensity. But if you appreciate a variety of exercise intensities, and want to add some effective core/balance/functional work to your workouts, these are good to try.

Though I also find that with these types of workouts, the more you do them, the tougher they seem to get. Probably because you're working more into those deeper supporting muscles rather than the superficial muscles that are usually worked a lot. Also because you can dip lower, reach higher, etc.

Thanks Kathryn. I think I am going to order these. I want something to work my muscles in a different way and from the infomercial I saw on television, I was intrigued. Would you mind posting the workouts you have so I know which ones to order. I guess I will need to order the older ones from Collage as I don't see the older one on the Core Secret web site. Thanks so much for taking the time to post a detailed response.

I would highly recommend Core Secrets. I would not really try and compare it to Cathe...In my opinion it would be like comparing apples and oranges....though there are similarities, they are really totally different workouts.

I ordered the 2 DVD set from Collage a few weeks ago. It was $20 total and that included the Bun Battle DVD and an all AB DVD workout on the ball. I haven't done this one yet, but I did preview it. It looks very similar to some of the moves we've seen in Core Max, but with a different twist.

As I posted earlier, I cannot describe the pain that I was experiencing in my hips and lower body yesterday and this morning. It was really interesting b/c most of the moves were either simple squats or some kind of variation. There were other moves that would fall into the "functional fitness" category and I think they helped contribute to this incredible DOMS that I had/still have. I am currently doing the KPC/L&G premix 1-2 times per week for lower body toning, but now I am going to incoporate this into my weekly rotations as well.

I hope this helps. If you end up getting Bun Battle, please post what you think and how you feel. I like hearing other opinions.

:) :)

I've got to get the Bun Battle. I have the original set and have only used it a couple of times. Gunnar has some interesting moves, but the reps are quick. There's no fatigue for me using the 25 minute full body workout. I'm new to cathe, but there's no comparison between the two instructors.

Thanks Jesse. One of the reasons I am interested in coer secrtes is just because it is apples and oranges with respect to Cathe. I want something different to supplement my workouts. I am going on-line today to order some of the older ones plus the new ones.
Thanks.

Cathy,

DD has Core Secrets and she loves it. I have done the Full Body Challenge and I liked it. It is a bit different from Cathe, not as intense, but would definitely be a good supplement to your workout regimen.

From the original set, I have: Fundamentals (not worth it, just an intro "how to" workout, but came with the infomercial set); Bun Battle; Ab Assault (these two are great "add ons" to other workouts); Full body challenge (43 minutes); 25 minute full body workout; Accelerated Core training (46 minutes); Give me 20 (20 minute full body).

From the second set, I have Off the Ball (35 minutes, LOVE it) ; Accelerated training camp (50 minutes; about equal amounts of time on and off the ball); Training camp (32 minutes, no ball).

The full-body workouts in each set are similar to each other (that is, the ones in the first set are somewhat similar, and the ones in the second set are somewhat similar), but there is variety as well, and always some moves in one workout that aren't in the others.

If I had to narrow down my choice, I would have to choose:
From the first set: Accelerated Core training, Full body challenge, Bun Battle, Ab assault.
From the second set (harder to choose, because they are more differnt, but I'll give it a go!): Accelerated Training camp and Off the Ball.
