Coordination question

I used to work out in a gym with "machines". To make it short, I stopped going. Many different reasons. Luckily I stumbled across this web sight and through all your threads I have learned a lot. I have PH and S&H which I love both. I do not have any of Cathe's cardio tapes yet. I would love to try Cario Kicks but the qustion or I guess the problem I am running into is that I get so frustrated at myself because my coordination seems to go out the window when I do cardio tapes. Tapes I have purchased that I can do physically I am so frustrated at myself by the end because I even mess up on the simple things. I go in the wrong direction, or use the wrong leg or do the wrong exercise. Has anyone else experienced this? I know the routines by now but still mess up. I am so use to treadmils, steppers and rowers where it is the same repetitive motion. Is there any hope?

Yes there is hope. The beauty of videos is that you can keep practicing it until you get it right, and there's no one peering at you through a window watching you stumble.

Find some multi-range cardio videos of modes that interest you, and just keep at it. While you're learning each new workout's choreography, you can also build in treadmill and stepper workouts so that you don't feel you've "wasted" a workout while learning it.

I think it is wise for you to go beyond aerobic machines precisely because they are repetitive, and limited, in the kind of motion and plane of motion required.

Keep at it!

I totally agree with Aquajock! There is definitely hope and the beauty of tapes & DVD's is the rewind button! Take it from me, because I run primarily for my cardio, and that's as repetitve as you can get. I have no coordination or dancing skills as all! But I love Cardio Kicks and it's pretty easy to learn actually. And it's quite challenging. As a matter of fact, while cathe is describing one of the routines, she says something like "that's what rewind is for! If you didn't have to learn it, it would get boring, right!" So there is hope. You'll get it, and believe me cardio kicks is worth it!

Thank you! I never really thought about the difference between machines and videos. I expected a learning curve but not like this. I was getting so frustrated that I think the frustration was messing me up also. Right now the only time I get that feeling of accomplishment is after doing PH or S&H section. I started to go back to the gym for yoga class. (Maybe release some stress.) The gym just turned into "social hour" and the weight machines were seats for some. I couldn't get done what I wanted since these machines were "taken" and ended up more time on the stepper etc. But now I see that I need more variety. I might just go ahead and get Cardo Kicks and try it in "parts" and just try to laugh at myself. My brain got use to not thinking on those cardio machines!

IMHO, I don't think you are born coordinated. I think you have to learn coordination. Even million-dollar athletes still practice the basics. I shudder to think back to my first aerobics class (back in the leg warmer days). Yikes!!!

Hi Cinders!

Agreeing with Kim~I have taught aerobics for 20 years and I still stumble when I see new choreo! Give it time, it WILL COME! I love CardioKicks and did not have a hard time at all learning the choreo on that one. It is sooo much fun. Just lookout for those cardio-drills at the end! Whew, as Cathe says," You will need an umbrella from the sweat flying in all directions!":7 Go for it. You won't be sorry. Let us know how you do.

You guys are great! I am so happy I found this site and Cathe's tapes. I am going to order Cardio Kicks and if it takes me months or longer to learn then so be it. Last night I did PH and just did not have the strength. I am surprised that my musceles are alittle sore today. So maybe if I try Cathe's Cardio Kicks and I stumble as much as I have on other easier tapes I'll still feel like I did something instead of not feeling it at all with the easier tapes. I'll make certain I have pleanty of towels around!

RE: Go for it, Cinders!

Just like muscular strength and endurance, and just like cardiovascular endurance, coordination can be developed and improved over time with consistent practice! The more you do and try, the more adept you'll become.
