Convince Me

Hi all,

I rarely post on the site, but have been using Cathe since 1998 (and I've had two babies in that time too). Here's a query to all who use the DVDs.

I have a separate room in my basement that I use for working out. Two years ago, I bought a TV/VCR combo JUST for Cathe tapes. I've already preordered the VHS version of the new videos, but I am really considering the Terminator and a few others. Currently I do not have any Cathe videos on DVD.

I need to be convinced to put out the moulah to add another TV and hook up a DVD player to it, or a TV/DVD combo. We actually have four DVD players in the house (two on computers), but as I'm sure you know, you can't hook up a DVD to a TV/VCR combo. Also, of the other TVs in the house, one is also a TV/VCR, one is 36-inches (too big/heavy to carry), and one really old TV not even set up for DVD use. Also, all the other TVs are in carpeted areas--don't want to workout on them.

Are they really worth it? Anybody else in my position? Are the transitions between one segment of one workout to another flawless so as to not lose your heart rate? Sorry if these questions have been dealt with in the recent past. Thanks.

hi deq

when i decided to go all dvd.. i had to buy all kinda stuff..tv..dvd player and bought all the Cathe DVD'si just took the plunge.. i would have eaten bread for 2 mos if it came to that LOL. Yes, its worth it !! Just the great sound and picture u get from the dvds is great.. not to mention the ease of following rotations or programming !!!No rewinding or cueing up for the next day!! I just love it.. it makes it a whole lot nicer for me!!DO IT!! You will NEVER regret it or go back!!Just my opinion! :+Candy

p.s. plus i got rid of my cathe on vhs like in 2 wks with the yaya boards and video fitness swap & sell

Yes! Yes! Yes! Get a DVD player. With Cathe, each series gets better and better with the premixes alone so you end up with a ton of workout options on one DVD not to mention what you can do if you go ahead and get a 5 disc DVD player. Be sure to check out videofitness.com for their recommendations. Not all DVD players allow you to program across mulitple DVD's. Good luck!:7

I'm the Ranking Cheapazoid of the Cathe Forums, and I am here to tell you that switching over to an all-DVD Cathe Collection was one of the best things I ever did for myself, worth every penny. Never did bother to sell my Cathe vids; just gave them away, and coughed up significant moolah for the DVD's as well as a 5-disc programmable DVD player (which I highly recommend you get as well).

Not only is the quality of sound and picture superior, and the rewinding mishegoss a thing of the past, but Cathe is not riding the wave but IS the wave in terms of DVD design. The chaptering of her workout DVD's is increasingly precise and exhaustive, and the premixes she puts onto each DVD in addition to the chaptering just helps you blow the lid off of your exercise options, especially if you're shooting for ever-higher cardio intensity like me.

Do yourself a favor and Go DVD.

You CAN hook up a DVD to a TV/VCR combo. That's what I did! I got my little TV/VCR from Sams a few of years ago. It has the 'plugs' for the DVD on the front of it. If it didn't, Radio Shack told me that they have the adapter.

So, now I don't have to get rid of my VHS workouts. I can make the switch gradually over to DVD. LOVE IT!

Thanks for all the responses! Now, I tried hooking up the DVD to the other TV/VCR combo, but the instructions explicitly state that because of a prohibition on recording DVDs blah blah blah, they've made it so it won't work. And it doesn't. You can play it for a minute and then it shuts off.

I'll investigate more, try it on the other one, and if not, I'll take the plunge lunge :), and empty my pockets. I can feel the passion in all your responses.

HELP - I have a DVD Player with subwoofer and five speakers, VCR and TV. The way it's hooked up, I only get great sound from the speakers when I play the VCR or a CD. The sound is very low (and unmotivating) for DVD. I think it might be because the DVD is hooked up to the VCR and VCR is hooked to TV. Not sure how else I would do it. I'm not able to enjoy the DVD's because of this. Do I need to get a receiver? Hope some audiophile can help me. Thanks.

I totally agree-- switching to DVD is WORTH IT!

Here is why:

More variety
No rewind
Pre-mixes are awesome
can skip directly to whatever part of the workout you want
can create your own mix and matches easily
picture quality is crisp
Cathe's DVD's are AWESOME!

Need I say more? I sold all of my VHS on ebay last December and never looked back!

Yes!! Mar, you need a receiver!!! I had the exact same problem when I converted to Cathe DVD! I was so pissed, cuz all the DVD's seemed superior in picture but way inferior in sound quality. I am one of those poeple that has to have the music truly pumping to workout.

I got a receiver and additional speakers and now I have all the sound I ever dreamed of, but I do think the receiver is the trick. I am not an audiophile though, but it worked very well for me. Just think, once you get a receiver you will be totally rockin'!!!!

I think switching to DVD is so much more than worth it it is not even funny!!

Man, if you can afford the cash out...in whatever form.....DO IT!!!! Even if I had to charge it, I would. You can even sell your VHS to offset the cost. I LOVE mixing and matching my workouts. Rewinding would seem like such a pain now...GO FOR IT!!
