Confused about the Letterman thing

The extortionist said that Letterman did some "terrible, terrible" things and Letterman admitted to doing some "creepy" things. Rather odd terminology for having sexual relationships with various women who work on the Late Show, no? I mean, he just got married in March. So he has been single all these many years. Personally, I'd be surprised if he didn't have consensual relationships with co-workers over these many decades. Maybe there's more to this story than we've heard so far? I'm curious to hear what others make of all this.

Letterman was just married in March to the mother of his child--even though he was just married, they've been together for decades. Evidently someone sent him a package threatening to expose these various affairs he's had w/women who work for him. I'm only speculating, but I think he was gonna expose him to his longtime GF, now his wife.

ITA w/you Nancy--I'd be surprised if there were no affairs. I don't necessarily think it was right since he was evidently in a committed relationship, but I suppose he waited to get married for a reason & he didn't do anything illegal. Morally questionable perhaps, but not illegal.

I think the wife knew. That's probably why it took so long for them to get married. You know, trust issues. In any case, as long as the sex/affair was consensual (really consensual unlike, ahem, recent events) I don't have an issue with it.

I find Letterdude amusing but I really don't need to think of him in relation to sex. Blech! Johnny Depp perhaps....Sean Bean maybe. Letterdude....not so much

My first reaction is : "EWWW EWWW EWWW!". David Letterman? Sex?

Just gross, and now I can never look at him the same...

Funny you should say that. I had a big crush on him back in the day, and I doubt I was the only one. He was adorable, witty and charming with his female guests. Not classically handsome, but cute. I even went out and bought a pair of white Adidas sneakers with green stripes, which were his signature shoes, and I was envious of his girlfriend, Merrill Markoe (who was a writer on the show). I'd even go so far as to say that I doubt that he was the seducer in most of those...uh... relationships. In short, to many of us geezers, he was kind of hot. :p

ETA: Anyhoo, apologies for bringing up this fluff of a topic. These days, Letterman gets on my nerves, and he certainly has nothing to be proud of. I guess the only important thing to come out of this is that justice was served and the extortionist was caught. Pretty cool.

I actually thought he said the * creepy* things as a sort of self-deprecating joke. Like, the creepy thing that happened was that these women had sex with someone like him. I know that this was a serious topic but he was trying to inject some levity into parts of it.

Just a thought...maybe CBS has rules about bosses and employees.

Possibly. But DL dated Merrill Markoe for about 7 years and she was one of the head writers on the show. I'm guessing neither was a "boss", just hired talent. (Of course, DL is the Chairman of the Board and 100% shareholder of Worldwide Pants, but he's not an officer. Had to add that legal stuff. :p)

I think you're right. I posted before I saw the video. The "terrible, terrible" stuff was probably an exaggeration.

The more and more I saw this shown on the news, internet, etc, the more creeped out I've become by it. just the way he said, "I've had sex with them...".

I can never watch him and not think about it now. not sure I will watch him.
