Concrete Floor Suggestions for Working Out

Hello :)

My boys and I moved into our rental house last weekend and the timing was perfect since this is my active recovery week with STS. The house is quite a bit smaller than our old house so I've had to improvise a bit on my home gym space. It is in the garage. Since my truck is too big to park in a garage I am using the garage for storage and working out. I've got a great space all carved out and my television and DVD player is all set up -- now I'm just concerned about the concrete.

I am sure that is not a good thing for me to work out on and I'm wondering what suggestions you might have to use on top of the concrete. And with the suggestions if you could point me in the direction of purchasing said flooring that would be great too :)

Thanks!

Travis

I'm in our basement for my space, and it has concrete floors. I did plain concrete floors for a while, NOT good on the knees for Cathe cardio. I now use puzzle mats - you can get them anywhere. I know Target has a 4 pack for $12 or $15. They don't always stay together, so mine have duct tape down the seams. And we had some extra berber carpet from when we did the upstairs and that is over the top, but prob not needed, but for laying down moves its more comfy. Works for me. Every few months, I rotate the mats, the outside to the inside and the inside to the outside. The inside ones get more pounding, so they get flattened out more. Moving them around keeps them poofy and soft longer. Works for me, and cheap, too!

Hi, I read your other post too, and I am can FEEL your happiness shining through :D.

I have concrete floors in my entire house. I only need the area rug and a yoga mat when I am doing floor exercises. If you have good shoes I don't think you will need anything else.

I also use puzzle mats, although not on concrete but on wood. Mine are from Lowes & stay together very well.
At Christmas time we were down in Florida at my folks, I did my wo's in an empty garage out back. Those concrete floors were brutal on my knees. I finally took out any jumps for safety sake. Be careful

I also have the puzzle mats (Lowes) in my workout room. The floor is ceramic tile, which is much like concrete. I have TWO layers of the puzzle mats. I would highly recommend that you do two layers as well!

I'm another one on the foundation concrete floor in the basement. I have puzzle mats and wonderful sneakers!

p.s. Congrats on this move in your life!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm getting ready to be taken to dinner by my sons (even though I'm paying ;)) and I think when we're done I will be going by Lowes to look for puzzle mats.

I think the concrete floor and my good workout shoes will be fine for lifting but I'm most concerned with cardio -- so I appreciate all you're suggestions.

Janis, it makes me happy to think others can feel my smile as well :)

Janie, my boys and I are doing well. I am happy and they seem to be adjusting to the new situation, possibly because they can feel my calm. It's not ideal for them and I know they would have never chose this particular scenario but they seem to be handling it. My oldest son (15 1/2) has been a wonderful help to me and has been helpful without my asking. He is respectful and things that he use to be difficult about he is not. I think on some level he feels like he has a responsibility to take care of me now even though I have told him it is not his responsibility but the other way around. Nonetheless I am grateful everyday and thank God accordingly, that I have wonderful children.
