Thanks to all of you for your warm and sincere support; I'll be notifying my friend of this thread in case she hasn't had time to look. She prefers to "lurk" rather than post because of an understandably very busy life.
I personally feel fortunate to have these forums to come to to share my "fitness" life and share in others'; I also feel fortunate that this is a place I can come to to discuss other life matters in a supportive environment.

Thanks again to all who responded! I just talked to my friend, and her child came home from the hospital yesterday. Needless to say, the entire family is quite tired, but grateful that their beloved child is home.
Cathe's community is an exceptionally warm and generous one, I must say.
