Comparisons to Firm

A friend wants to try Cathe after doing Firm advanced or difficult tapes. What do you suggest I tell her? Can you recommend anything in particular to start with. I've never done much with Firm's stuff. Alexis

I have done the Firm, though not any of the newer stuff. I really don't think you can compare the Firm to Cathe. It's sort of like apples and oranges. Cathe's tapes are more like gym workouts where the Firm is more "artsy" for lack of a better way of describing them.

The best thing you could do for her is let her borrow one or two of your tapes & have her try them for herself.

I always liked the Firms advanced stuff and if she can do it, I'd recommend either of the newest series but I'd find out how she does with fairly complex choreography first. If she doesn't care for it, IMax, MIS and MIC are great because they are all out but pretty basic with the move, i.e., if I can do them, she can!

I did the Firm tapes before Cathe's. Probably because of the alternating weights and aerobics. I have never felt that the Firm aerobic portions were difficult. I had recently tried some of the newer Firms tapes...I thought they were very easy compared to the high intensity of Cathe's various aerobic formats. I think that the CTX series could be good to start with unless they just want to buy one or 2 tapes. Letting your friend borrow some of yours as said previously is probably a good place to start. Once they try Cathe, I bet they will be hooked... :) Carole

Hey there!

Many of us found out about Cathe from the Firm forum. I started with Cardio kicks. It is very different than the Firm. Then got CTX (again used the Firm for weights).

Now I totally do Cathe - but must say without the Firm I may have never discovered Cathe.

That reminds me I have a bunch of firm tapes to get rid off. I'll make that a to do in 2004!

Enjoy

I started with the Firm and converted to Cathe. I made the transition with the CTX series. I found the cardio for Cathe so much more challenging than the Firm's cardio. The CTX series seems to have shorter cardio workouts than some of Cathe's other cardio so I found it more manageable. I haven't pulled a Firm workout since I started using Cathe. I have grown to love her cardio and am amazed that I have mastered some of those step moves.

Merry Christmas,

JoJo

Thanks for the input ya'll. I had no idea what to tell her and thought that they were very different.

Thanks for suggesting that I let her borrow MY tapes, but I think we should let her borrow YOUR stuff :p In reality (I visit there sometimes) she's too far away and I'd have to mail them. That's not going to happen! Thanks again for your help. Alexis

I haven't done any of the Firm tapes, but have read comparisons of Supersets, Push/Pull, and Bootcamp to the Firm. I think these comparisons were due to the fast pace and frequent equipment changes in those workouts, not necessarily the intensity of them. In fact, I think even Legs and Glutes was compared to the Firm, as it uses lighter weights and goes at a faster pace... Thinking about it, some of these might also have been compared to Fitprime, in that Cathes uses some unusual and new moves...

I have to thank the Firm for getting me to commit to exercise, but Cathe gets all the gratitude for getting me in the best shape of my life!

I would suggest the CTX series as well, and also some of the newer ones (C&W, ME or Power Hour) since they are all full body tapes which have a Firm kind of (but much better) feel!

I don't blame you for not wanting to part with your workouts. I always recommend Cathe to everyone, but never offer a "try before you buy" deal!

As a former long time user of the Firm (started with the very first ones in 1989!), any of the Firm's "advanced" stuff doesn't even come close to Cathe. If she's been working out for a while, she can just jump right in, in my humble opinion! I did, and have never looked back! Tell your friend to be prepared though ... "advanced" doesn't mean the same thing to the folks at the Firm as it does to Cathe - LOL!! She'll be hooked soon just as we all are!!
