Colorado Mountains!!!!!/ vacation!!!!

hopefull

Cathlete
We just got back from vacationing in the mountains of Colorado!! Oh my gosh!! What a breath taking (literally, the altitude!) sight. We had such a nice time. Caravaned out there with my in-laws. Camped at some breath taking state parks. Stayed a few days in Ouray and Silverton. Loved every minute of it, but the drive home. Would love to hear about other people's vacation exploits. If you live in Colorado, I'm jealous!!!! Loved the break from the humidity! MIS kicked my butt this morning after two weeks of vacation, but I know it is just a short term set back. Hope you enjoy your vacations this summer as much as we did.

Hopefull:)

I know what you mean I love it out west. We leave in the am for 9 days in Jackson WY, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier NP and Waterton NP/AB.

I can't wait.

Glad you had a wonderful trip :)

Hi,
I had a business meeting in Keystone CO this past spring. It took my breath away literally (12,200 ft elevation) and figuratively (gorgeous landscape). I loved it. Took lots of pictures that had no alternative but to turn out good as the scenery is so beautiful you can't help but take nice pictures.

My mom, son and I took Amtrak out to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, last week. We went on a 16 mile paved bike trail in the canyon, that runs along the Colorodo River, 3 times. It was so beautiful. I went on a couple of hikes to the top of a mountain. The view was spectacular. We went swimming a couple of times in the Hot Springs Pool. The therapy pool is set at 104 degrees; the "main" (football-sized) pool is 90 degrees. It felt wonderful. Also went up to Aspen and to a rodeo. It was a very "fitness"-oriented vacation. It actually was warmer there than it was here in Michigan while we were gone. :)

My DH goes to Boulder on business meetings a few times each year. I keep thinking I should go with him sometime and see what it's all about. But I'm not sure it's worth using vacation time when he is going to be working and I can't see flying there from New York just for the weekend. He says its magnificently beautiful and I haven't seen many mountains in my time.

Boulder is worth seeing on your own. See the Hotel Boulderado, the U of Colorado, and go up in the mountains and hike a bit on your own. Go, go, go, go!!

It is beautiful in Colorado. I lived there for a couple of years and got to see quite a lot. Boulder is very pretty. Seeing the Garden of the gods was awe striking. Anyone should see this area. Washington was another state that had so much to see. Also when my daughter was in North Carolina we made some trips. Tennesee was beautiful. My husband and I went to Georgia and visited Cumberland Island. There were horses wandering around the beach. Actually I have been through quite a lot of the states. There are so many wonderful things to see. Another one that made an impact for me was the Grand Canyon. I lived in Phoenix area for 7 years and never saw it. We took our children and stayed on the rim. I guess I could just keep going on.

The Tetons are wonderful and Glacier National Park is my favourite place on the planet. Have a fabulous time and don't forget to get out of the car and explore! God I'm so jealous!!!!!!!!!

I love Washington too. I grew up in Oregon and Washington. Mountains just call to me. I lived in Anchorage for awhile. Talk about breathtaking. The Matanuska Valley is a sight to behold.
I told my husband that Colorado reminded me of southern Oregon quite a bit. We really live in a beautiful nation. It is so diverse. A little bit of everything for everybody.

Would September be a good time to go? We'll have two weeks off in September. I will need recommendations for places to stay, things to see, etc.

I went to Denver Colorado and spent some time there and in surrounding areas a long, long time ago. I think I was 19 or 20...anyway....gorgeous! We went to Pikes Peak in July and at the top it was snowing and so cold. I also saw the Garden of the gods. The majesty and beauty of the mountains were breath taking. After Colorado I could never call the foothills of SC and NC mountains again. I would love to one day go back!

P.S. I love SC and NC...it just took me a little while to appreciate their beauty again after Colorado....tee hee.

I live on the east coast and 2 years ago we took a 5 week trip across country and back. When we went out, we covered the lower half of the country and came back through the upper half, eventually through Canada and Niagara Falls, New York and home. The painted desert in AZ is gorgeous, and you just have to "experience" the Grand Canyon. You can see a million pictures of it, but it takes your breath away when you see it. (The same of Niagara Falls.) My favorites were Yosemite in CA, and Jackson Hole WY. When we were in Yosemite, my husband, who is not a very emotional person, just kept repeating "WOW, WOW, WOW!!" The Grand Tetons in WY were awesome as well. We stayed in hotels, but my dream is to stay in a cabin or camp at some of these places and just hike around. (Yellowstone was pretty, but it wasn't a take your breath away kind of place.) We didn't get to CO, but from what we heard, it's gorgeous. We took our 4 kids on the trip and had such a wonderful experience. We decided on the days and using a map, I sat down with a girl from AAA and we decided which route to take and how many days we wanted to stay in each place. Then she would check for hotels that had suites, with free breakfasts, and make the reservations. We only stayed in one hotel that didn't really work out very good. And that was for only one night! So it was a trip of a lifetime. When the kids become grown, my husband and I are doing it again, just the two of us. Most of my friends like to go to the Caribbean, but it's amazing what we have right in our own backyard!!

Hopeful - I hate to tell ya' this...but I am lucky enough to LIVE in Colorado! I live outside of Boulder and absolutely LOVE it! I am glad you had a good time while out here and enjoyed it:) The weather has been absolutely beautiful. I grew up in Florida though and miss the water. We are going on a vacation in a couple weeks to Florida and I can't wait.

Nancy - September would be a wonderful time to come visit. The Aspen trees are usually changing around mid to late September and it is BEAUTIFUL up in the mountains. E-mail me and I can give you some pointers on where to stay. We love staying up in Summit County. It is right in the middle of Breckenridge, Winterpark, Keystone etc. Really close to hiking, biking trails, outlet malls, restaurants etc. We usually stay at the Village at Breckenridge or rent a condo. You can get some good deals that time of year! Also, Aspen is a beautiful and quaint city to visit. It would be SOOOOO pretty in September. I went to a wedding one time in September and it was simply breath taking and very romantic! ;)
