Colon Wellness

I survived my first colonoscopy. I am very thankful that I had the screening because the doctor found two benign polyps. They were removed, and I have been assured that I am fine.

Don't be afraid of getting checked. Doing it when I turned 50 would have caused me less stress than worrying about having it for four years. In the balance of life, developing colon cancer is much worse than having a colonscopy.

Colon cancer is highly preventable. If you or a friend or loved one are are over 50 and have a family history (my Grandma had colon cancer) check with your doctor.

Regards,

Rhonda :)

Glad to hear you checked out okay Rhonda. Colon cancer runs in my family too. My grandma also had it and died at the way too young age of 66. :-( I am only in my 30's but my mom has been getting checked since she turned 50 and I imagine it will be recommended for me as well. Better to be safe than sorry!:)

Glad to hear your good results. This is the easiest and best cancer preventative there is.. everyone at 50 ( or before if you have a history of colon cancer in your family) should do this.

I almost skipped this post. I thought it was another "cleansing" thread. I'm glad you had this done and all was well. My DH and I had our 50-year-old screening done a couple months ago. It wasn't as terrible as I was lead to believe and agree that it not be put off. No more for 10 years for me!

OMG not another colon cleansing thread!!!
Glad to hear you're doing well. My Mom died of colcon cancer complications, they've been watching me since I turned 40.

I know, you had the gallon jug of superflush before the colonoscopy.

Since I had mine done...

I'm much more alert.

My friends have returned borrowed books.

I balanced the federal budget.

I solved world hunger.

I'm putting the finishing touches on world peace.

I made Windows a stable and secure operating system.

Im ROTFL at Dave!!

Yes, I almost passed this by thinking it was another missive on colon cleansing. Thank you for posting. Early detection is key. I'll be having the procedure come next spring.

What causes colon cancer? I know some people say it runs in their family, but is it hereditary?? I would think not, but I don't know. I do wonder if cleaning mycotoxins out of your system would be a big prevention for colon cancer.

Sorry, I know most of you don't want to hear about the cleansing thing, but I can't help but wonder.....

>I made Windows a stable and secure operating system.<

C'mon, Dave, this one's a lttle far-fetched.

;-)

Dave:

I feel personally empowered, and that is what counts.....

> I have cleaned my daughter's room.
> Called both my brothers to give them the news.
> Gotten my DH to make an appointment.
> Gotten the plumber to fix my downstairs toilet so my DH has no excuses.
> Gone shopping.
> Done alot of stretching and aerobics. Will resume weights next week, beginning with lighter endurance and hopefully heavy weights by the end of the week.

I got to take the pills and from all I hear they are better than drinking a gallon of chalky liquid.

Some people may have more of a hereditary tendency to get it, but like most diseases of affluence, I think whether it expresses itself or not is highly linked to diet.

My father died of colon cancer, and after doing some reading on it, I can see how his high-animal-protein, low fiber diet contributed to it (though I wish I'd known about it earlier).

Epidemiological evidence (based on population studies) ties it very much to the consumption of animal protein. (ie: pretty much the SAD).

Lack of fiber contributes because carcinogenic substances that should be eliminated in a timely manner remain in contact with the walls of the colon.
