coffee

I used to drink my coffee with a lot of milk and sugar! As I moved from Folgers to Starbucks coffees (my husband was a Barista for a short while and got it free), then to Gevalia, I quit using milk completely and only use a tiny bit of sugar and sometimes none. I find with the higher quality beans, the flavor is so good, I don't need all the additional stuff. I was never an artificial sweetner kind of person. They always seemed to taste funny to me, so I just went black.

I used to use Splenda myself too much. I also don't like stevia. I found an all natural zero calorie sweetner called Z Sweet, it is made up of erythritol. I get at whole foods.

Sounds like you like the sweeteners more than the coffee. If you can find a great coffee, it'll taste great black IMO.

I also struggle with stopping splenda/artificial sweeteners. I read a study that proved in rats that the same receptor on your tongue that senses "sweet" called the "gustducin" receptor, is also in your intestine, and induces a release of a class of peptides called incretins (specifically GLP-1), that causes an insulin release, which makes you hungry. So if you are going to eat artifical sweetener, make sure you're eating it with food so you don't have a small insulin surge without taking in calories, which will make you hungry.
