Co Q10 to supplement or not???

Can someone tell me if this is okay to take? I have a family history of heart disease and read that it may help. I started adding it to my daily supplements of Omega 3, CLA, Glucosomine, and my women's daily vitamin and noticed that I take a heck of a lot of supplements. Does anyone else take supplements and what do you take? I just find that for me anyway it is impossible to get all my daily nutritional needs from food. I'm just not that savy a cook and it just takes way to much brain power to figure it all out. I eat clean 95% of the time but have found that supplements have really helped me out or so I think anyway. My husband thinks supplements are a waste of money and don't really do anything. I sorta begged to differ since my obgyn tells me to take a calcium supplement and when I was having sleep problems my general practice Dr. suggested supplements to help. They're the ones with the PhD after all. Although my sister who is a pharmMD thinks that they are dangerous and a waste. Does anyone else think supplements are just a gimmick??

Before I take anything, I check it out on Mayo's website:

I take 100 mg of it in a multi. I think this is one of those antioxidants that will eventually be proven to be effective, but time is needed.

Trying to figure out supplements and how they should fit into our lives can be very frustrating. Take glucosamine. First it got the general thumbs up. Then the results of some studies reversed that opinion. Now Mayo clinic says, "Maybe there's evidence..." Grrrr. I know all the studies differ in some way, and these things take time, but it sure is annoying.

A person should be careful about what kind of supplements they buy (some people will buy anything off the shelf with a funky label). I buy from a company I trust, and I stick to the basics: a regular multi, and an antioxidant multi that contains Co Q10, EGCG and Resveratrol.

My husband is a physician and didn't have a very high opinion of supplements until lately. Now, after visiting his own doctor, he's dipping into my fish oil.

EGCG and Resveratrol.

Hi Lori! What in the world is EGCG and Resveratrol?? I also haven't read anything bad about glucosomine. Can you tell me what you've read. Ugh, I totally agree. It gets so confusing but I just know that since I'm a picky eater I don't get everything I need from my diet. My husband also dips into my glucosomine supplements and fish oil. Isn't that funny.

I included links so that you can read the complete article. You can also Google these two and get plenty of hits.

Resveratrol:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/red-wine/HB00089

"Some researchers believe that resveratrol might be the key ingredient in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces "bad" cholesterol and prevents blood clots."

EGCG:
http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/features/superfoods-everyone-needs?page=2

"The overall antioxidant power of black tea is the same as green tea," says Kulze, "but green tea does have ECGC, a powerful antioxidant that we really do think is quite special." A recent Japanese study on green tea found that men who drank green tea regularly had lower cholesterol than those who didn't. Researchers in Spain and the United Kingdom have also shown that ECGC can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. For a double health whammy, replace sugary sodas with tea.

Regarding Glucosamine, my husband read something in a medical journal. I have no clue which one though. All I remember is that the results weren't positive.
