Yech. Yesterday was bad. It started off with great promise but then....banana bread. And ice cream out with the kids. THen it was homemade cinnamon bread. Man, I know better than to eat carbs like that! They are so blasted addicting. My sis and I did BM2 last night. I at least broke even on the scale today and didn't GAIN so that's good. My sis and I and my 2 DDs are leaving tomoorow for a week's vaca to Iowa. We are going to keep eachother encouraged to eat clean. I'll be taking my Cathe kickbox DVDs to help keep us working out. I'll miss checking in and reading everyone's - maybe I'll be able to from time to time.

Well, today will be getting everything ready for me to leave. DH - ah, I love him, but so, so helpless.;) No plan for eating just trying to keep it clean and ignore the carbs. If anything I'm worried I'll be too busy to eat and let myself get hungry. Today will be a challenge, but as Cathe says, "embrace the challenge...you've got to work hard for what you want!"

Welcome to the newcomers yesterday. I think we're all Kashi cereal fans here, so if you haven't bought a box before, go grab one!

Talk to you later! Happy cleaning!

Hello. I would like to join in this check in as well. I currently check in for workouts in another check-in but like the thought of being held accountable for clean eating as well.

Before delving in here's a little about me:
*Christian
*Just recently married
*Will be competing in my first figure competition Sep 15 '07 and two more after that in Oct and Nov
*High-school Spanish teacher
*Friendly and always willing to give support to others
*LOVE Cathe but unfortunately can no longer do her weight workouts as I have to be lifting heavier in the gym but still use her cardio a few times a week for variety (I couldn't live without her ya know ;)

So here's the plan for today (remember - I'm training for comp)
WO: 30 min step mill
B: 1/3c oatmeal, 4 egg whites, apple
S: protein shake, 2 ricecakes
S: 4 boiled eggwhites, 15 almonds
L: 6pc. sashimi(no rice sushi) salmon/tuna, salad w/ mixed veggies
S: 4oz chicken, 3/4c brown rice cooked
WO: Back & Abs at gym w/ spin class
D: 4oz lean top sirloin, asparagus

Glad to join another great group of fit ladies:7

Hi All!

Kate: Stop beating yourself up. It's done and over and you only live once ;-)

Christina: Congrats on the recent marriage. I wish you all the best in the competition.

Mikkia: A sliver of birthday cake sounds better than a C-section. Enjoy the day with your daughter!

Robin: I love salmon but was a bit disappointed with the Lean Cuisine. I suppose that is good as I will no longer have any interest in eating one of those things!

Today's plan

A question for you clean eaters, How late do you eat your last snack?

Have a clean & tidy Day!

Elaine

Hi Everyone,

My name is Colleen and I am just starting to change my eating habits to clean eating. My 2 biggest obstacles are not getting enough protein in my diet (I am a carbaholic) and chocolate. I have been gradually converting my carbs to good carbs over the last several months and I have lost inches but not weight. Here's my plan for the day:

B: oatmeal w/ almonds & skim milk, OJ
L: Buffet at chili place - I am hoping to get vegetarian chili w/ beans and avoid the junk food (wings, nachos, brownies)
S: grapes, apple & sugar snap peas
D: grilled chicken w/ brown rice & vegetable

Good luck to everyone today - it sounds like some of you will have big challenges ahead.

Hello Clean and tidy ladies!
Wow, lots of posts, so great to see!!

Kate, enjoy your trip, we'll miss you and can't wait for you to tell us all about it!

Christine,

welcome, and congrats as well! Would love to see pics if you get a chance

Mikkia,

Welcome, and enjoy the birthday and the cake!!

Robin:
Looks great girl!
Elaine:
i usually eat dinner around 7pm, bed at 10, so i dont tend to eat anything after that, but i think i shoud!
Beavs:
Rockin as usual!
Colleen:
Welcome! I use hemp protein, its an acquired taste but i love it now, in oatmeal etc!

Today, so far, my usual oats/berries, fruit
workout tonight, drillmax cardio, B+G standing and abs, additional abs likely, why not!
I think i'm going to run over and book a flight to London! I thought my only holiday this year would be the roadtrip, but flights are about $200 dollars in October!! Cant pass that up!

Ooh, lots of clean eaters today! Yeah! It's always great to have other people eating clean w/ ya! My friends IRL think I'm a nut for not eating sugar/ white flours and have NO interest in clean eating. Oh well, their choice!

So I have a full blown cold now. Yuck!! I'll survive *grumble grumble*.

My usual day...

Liquids ~ 40 oz water so far, cup of coffee, cup of half decaf

Breakfast ~ Usual oatmeal (1/2 c. old fashioned oats, 1 T. wheat germ, 1 T. ground glax, 1 T. NM PB, 1/2 c. cott. cheese + 1/2 cup berries)

As for my protein pancakes, sometimes I do add protein powder to them, but my fav recipe is this:

Protein Pancakes

1/2 c. old fashioned oats
1/2 c. cottage cheese
6 egg whites (I just use 3-4 egg whites or 1/2 c. eggbeaters)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon or pumpkin spice mix
(I also add 1 T. wheat germ, 1 T. ground flax)

Grind oats in blender until flour-like consistency. (I use a little handy chopper)

Add egg whites, cottage cheese and seasoning and blend until batter-like consistency.

Cook in non-stick pan over medium heat.

I top mine w/ NM (Naturally More, check it out here http://www.peanutsnack.com ) PB, but you can use whatever toppings you like. I like to make them w/ blueberries too! They are sooo good! ;-)

Welcome, Christina!! Good luck w/ your figure competition, that's awesome!! I'm a Christian too, my dh & I are very active in our church teaching Children's church, he teaches an adult Sunday school class, I sing in the choir & play my flute, etc. We love it!

I love Cathe too, I just finished a P90X rotation but would sub in some of her workouts (especially KickMax or KPC for Kenpo!), and of course B & G, nothing works the butt & legs like that one!

I love sashimi/ sushi (the one w/ brown rice is my fav!). Glad you joined in! It seems like we keep growing here which is great to have so many other fit, healthy eaters! :)

How late do you eat your last snack?

I usually go to bed at 10 so my last snack is 7:30, no later than 8.

Hi Colleen welcome.

I'm a chocolate lover too. What I do is buy the dark chocolate and only eat a section at a time....because it gives me the runs..;-)
My suggestion, which is what I've started doing, is to keep a food diary and check my portions. One cup of pasta is a small amount, when I used to eat a whole plate full. This has help me to drop a few more pounds.

Buffets are dangerous places for me....good pickens.

Hi Jess,

Those pancakes look interesting. Do you know how many servings it makes and the prot, carbs and fat content?

Elaine

That's 1 serving, it makes about 3 pancakes.

Nutrition info for all 3 pancakes: 300 cals, 4g fat, 32g carb, 4g fiber, 31g protein (that's w/out the wheat germ, flax, or PB)

Pretty darn good & filling too! HTH!

No AM snack, busy w/ my kiddos & not real hungry w/ this darn cold.

Lunch ~ We had a picnic type lunch downstairs (rainy day, needed something to do!) Big salad w/ romaine, brocc, cauli, carrots, sliced deli meats- chicken, ham, & turkey (the lower sodium kind, not super clean but oh well!), boiled egg, olive oil & balsamic; a few grapes & apple slices

Thanks Jess

That is pretty good. I wonder if they freeze well.
I like to make pancakes for my kids and freeze them, so during a busy weekday I can still give them for breakfast.
Hmmmm.....I may have to make some and see.

Elaine

Hi everyone!
Thanks for all the nice welcomes! I have to confess that I've never participated in a check-in like this before and it's going to take me a while to catch on to addressing individuals in my posts...(how do you all keep track of everyone in your answers - I'm amazed and impressed!).
I think Robin asked me how the steel-cut oats taste but I haven't tried them yet. I'm still working on my supply of instant honey-nut oatmeal (not clean but yummy). I'll let you know when I try them!

Elaine, I know exactly where your town is. My parents used to take us to Willard Brook when I was little. I believe that's in the next town over from you (?)

Jess, I'm impressed with your pancake recipe. Do your girls eat all this clean and tidy food too? If so, good for you! I wish I had gotten on this kick when my boys were young. They're teenagers now and I don't want to tell you the kind of junk they eat!x(

I had my usual oatmeal with berries for breakfast. PB&J for lunch and have grlled salmon and asparagus ready to go for dinner. I had a couple of egg whites, some Kashi and a string cheese for snacks today. Goodness, I'm realizing that I'm seriously low on fruits and veggies. I think I'll add a salad to tonight's dinner and a half grapefruit for dessert...good thing I checked in!

Exercise was just PUB for today. I was supposed to go for a run but I felt too sore after the B&G leg blast premix from yesterday! 4 mile run on the schedule for tomorrow!

Happy eating everyone!

The rest of the day....

More water, and some herbal tea.

Afternoon snack ~ Vanilla yogurt, 1/4 c. cott. cheese, mixed berries; 10 mixed nuts

Dinner ~ Protein pancakes (couldn't resist w/ all of the talk about them!) topped w/ NM PB and berries, pineapple, grapes

P.S. I've never frozen them, I'm sure they'd be fine to freeze for later! Let me know how you like them!

Sigh, I woke up with a terrible headache and nausae and called in sick. I ate junk all day. When I went to make a pot of decaf coffee, I discovered my DH had been making decaf in the morning for the last 2-3 days. I was going through caffine withdrawal. I made a small pot and finally feel human again. Hopefully tomarrow will be back on the tidy bandwagon for me.
