Chinups/Pullups - using weight machine instead?

Hi Cathe,

I don't have access to a chin up bar or tubing, but I do have a weight machine that BF uses. I just started STS and did Disc 2 tonight. I went to the weight machine during chin ups and pull ups and did lat pull downs with the machine instead. It was very tough and I felt it.

My question is - is this good enough or should I use something else? Also, if I use the exercise machine, should I find my 1 Rep Max and do 60% weight like the rest of the workout or should I use the heaviest weight I can manage in order to simulate my body weight in the chin ups/pull ups?

Not Cathe, but.........during Meso 2/Disc 15 Cathe acutally mentions that you can use a lat machine if you have one. She also tells you how to adjust your hand position to get to all the muscles. Unfortunately, I can't remember which set she explains it all.

I've tried the pullups/chinups (very assisted ;-) ) and the tubing but felt it the most when I used my lat machine. Hooyah!! :-D

Hope that helps!

That is good! I feel like I can definitely feel it, I'll be doing Disc 5 on Wednesday, so I will try again. I feel like I can't go much heavier than I'm going. I also feel like if I was doing "real" pushups/chinups I'd be spending a lot of the time not doing much of anything at all.

you can do dumbbell pullovers where you are on your back on the bench with a 1 heavy dumbbell in your hands. Bring the weight straight over your head and then pull it back to start position (over your face). This works your lats and posterior delt. I find that i feel it targeting my lats more when i bend my elbow a bit. hope this helps
