Chinup Check In 8/1

You sure have a zest for life, Briee. I bet you were a great fitness instructor. What other jobs have you had?

Catherine, I didn't know you were a NP either. I've always admired the heck out of nurses. That's a great story about what motivated you to start exercising. There are a lot of seniors where I live and seeing them all the time (both fit and unfit) motivates me to work out as well.

Funny, I was just talking about my fitness drive with my mother yesterday... I was never an athletic kid but enjoyed being outside and playing sports with friends, even though I was usually one of the last ones picked. I wasn't great in P.E. and never passed the Presidential Fitness Test, but then one marking period in high school, a class called, "Slimnastics" was offered. It was kind of like aerobics, and I loved it and was finally good at something "athletic." When I was 19, I started working 8 to 12 hour shifts waiting tables in a very big restaurant which got me craving that kind of continuous movement. I then started biking the hilly area where I grew up, and after I got married and moved to Atlanta in 1987, I started doing the Firm workouts. I've been exercising on and off to videos (mostly on) between pregnancies and babies ever since. I started doing Cathe videos in 2001 or 2002.

As far as what I do for a living goes, I used to be a high school German teacher until I had my first child in 1992. I've been a stay-at-home mom ever since, but I started working part-time at the Y as Co-Director of Development, a job I share with a good friend. We raise money mostly by coordinating fundraising events, the biggest one being the Ball we had in June. It's a great job because I get to do something worthwhile for the community, I can often work at home, and my hours are pretty much what I want them to be, supposedly averaging 15 hours a week, but more or fewer depending on what events are happening. I still consider myself to be a stay-at-home mom, though.

I'm curious about everyone else's quests for fitness and jobs too.
