chin-ups/pull ups

I would also like to know the answer to this Q. What about the Perfect Pullup that you attach to your door frame? Anyone have any ideas or opinions?

I've read many posts from people who really liked the Perfect Pullup (this is the one that attaches over the doorframe w/o any screws, right?). I don't have it because my doorframe is wider than 3 1/2", so it won't fit. So be sure that you measure your doorframe before buying one and make sure it meets the requirements.

I have the Door Gym and I use it in the closet in my foyer. That's the ONLY doorframe in my house that I can use!

If you don't want to use a pullup bar, you can use bands. You'll still get a great back workout.

We have the perfect pull up bar. Bought it at WalMart. Here's a link to see the pictures. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10770120
As you can see, you can do pull ups from many different angles with the bar because it screws into the frame and can swivel up and down. I have to leave my exercise room to do these but I make sure I can hear the video and just go until she says stop. At our WalMart, we didn't have to buy the ab straps that are advertised on-line and that took off about $20 from the total price. My husband and I really like this bar and hopefully it, along with STS, will help me get to my goal of being able to do full pull ups:)

I can't use the Perfect Pullup bar with the wide molding around all the door frames in my old house and I had no other means of doing anything resembling a pull-up. So, until I do, I'm just doing band lat pull-downs with a firm band (shown at the bottom of page 12 of the STS User's Guide). Nowhere near as challenging as raising and lowering my own body weight but better than skipping past the exercise altogether, I think.

I also really like the Perfect Pullup bar. I will never be able to do a pullup but this lets you use different ways to work the back. I love the leaning door thing and I bought a heavy band to use and can do about 7 pullups with it now.

Stacy we have an old house also. The perfect pullup has plates that you have to screw into the inside of the door frame not on the outside molding and the bar is adjustable. It does not clip up like the beachbody one. Are you sure it won't work.

Are you sure?
This isn't like those Beachbody pullup bars that hook on the door everytime you use them (I couldn't use them on my wide-molding doorways either). The PP bar attaches to braces you screw into the sides of the door frame, and it is supposed to fit any door from 27-37" wide openiing.

I haven't tried it, but it looks to me like it would fit my doorways.

At to the original question:
1) band pulldowns (I like Lifeline bands--which can come in quite high resistance) and this door attachment : http://www.sissel-online.com/models/1207_tda-100.php

2) pull-overs

3) pull-ups/chin-ups the way some of the backgrounders do on Cathe's pull-up/barbell rack bar, but using a Fluidity bar (or other stable ballet-style bar) or Lebert Equalizers http://www.lebertequalizer.com/eq_product.htm

The first two methods will give you a movement pattern more similar to a vertical pull-up/chin-up than will a horizontal pull-up/chin-up done with a bar (which has a movement pattern more similar to a row--pulling back rather than pulling down).
