Chin-Up Check-In Friday 3.24

Ah Briee, that approach just doesn't work for me at all. I'm a realist. I could never lie to myself like that because I would never be able to convince myself that I love something I hate. Nope! What works for me is to face my hatred head on, confess that what I'm feeling is indeed hatred, and then boldly attack it. I'm an attacker! Your approach, for me, is a fools folly. And actually, hatred of a thing creates a tremendous amount of energy that, when harnessed, is ultimately very productive. That's what I got! ;) ;)

Saturday is my donuts day - they do not enter into the "I love chin ups" chant any other day of the week.

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Mark Twain ;-)

>I don't know if this article was the clearest. I believe
>your going to have to do a few rounds of negative pullups
>before the pullup magic occurs (when I say pullups, which I
>slip up and say ALL THE TIME, just know I'm referring to chin
>ups K?). Don't get discouraged Susan...it may take a few
>weeks of doing these every other day...

That was not in the chin-up contract!
>
>I have not done my workout today yet, but I think I may just
>do negatives with added weight - we'll see.

Sounds like a good, plan, Briee. How much weight do you add and what's your count?

>Sooooooooooooosan...I found that when I was doing chinups
>every other day, my arms didn't recover "fully" if you know
>what I mean. If I were you I'd try this....do negatives every
>other day for a few weeks and then give your arms a 3-5 day
>break and try a chinup. Just a thought.

I'll try it. Thanks for the tips and motivation!:) :)

>Anyway, I agree with Briee, it'll take several weeks of doing >negatives at that level to get to one chinup. I started doing negatives about 2 weeks into P90x and it was week 9 that I discovered I could do a chinup.
>
>Catherine

Well, that gives me hope. Did you do the same amount of sets that Tony and crew did except you subbed in negatives? About how many reps did you start with and what did you progress to?

>I'm doing mine Tues - Thurs - Sat this week, so I'm a little
>off the check in schedule. I KNOW none of you will mind!
>Yesterday I did my big set of 10, then lesser sets of 4's and
>3's. More tomorrow.
>
You go girl!!!

Soooooooooooosan,

I did do the same sets as Tony- not the same number of reps though. I started the first few weeks doing assisted with the chair. Did about 8-10. Then I started doing negatives 1 at first cause I'd come down quickly, did'nt have much control. I'd follow those up with using the chair. I'd gradually do more negatives and use the chair less. Once I started doing negatives more I saw strength gains right away. Got to a point where I could do 5-6 negative chinups and about 2-3 negative pullups. Stayed there for a few weeks and really thought I was gonna finish my P90X rotation without being able to do any chinups. So one day I just was walking by the bar and decided to try one. I got to eye level with the bar. I thought close. Kept doing that everyday for 3-4 days and one day I got up there!!! So that's my story.

Catherine

HB I'm laughing because you didn't say that Saturday is your "donut" day....Saturday is your "donutS" day. Very important difference - that I picked up on immediately(I can be very bright when I want to be).

AND....TODAY IS SATURDAY AND THAT MEANS (((((DONUTS))))))

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH.

Briee (I like you HB - anyone who can do 10 pullups should be closely listened to in matters of diet/nutrition!!)

Soooooooooooooosan...did I not mention that little detail. I may not have mentioned that you need to eat donuts on saturdays as well :7 :7 :7 :7 - hey it's in the contract.

Briee (I haven't even had coffee yet!!)

I eat a dozen donuts every morning for breakfast.:p

But the main question I have for you now, Briee, is DID YOU WORK OUT YESTERDAY???

Yesterday...lets see what day was yesterday, was that the day after the day before Friday???

Did I mention that I did NOT eat a donut yesterday?

Hmmm...what was the question again???

Briee

Ok ladies, I've been gone from home all day and in about 1 hour my workout begins. Today is bootcamp, BUT FIRST, the attempted chin-ups. My plan follows Michele's philosophy, HATRED OF THE DARN THINGS WILL DRIVE ME WITH WILD ABANDON AND INSANE STRENGTH!!!

And there's not a donut in the house...but, there is some dark chocolate and I will envision a piece (or maybe I should put one) on the top of the pullup bar.

This isn't the no sweets thread, right? I think I was kicked outta that one. :+

I guess I'll let it slip this time, especially since you can do seven times the amount of chin-ups as I and God knows how many times the amount of push-ups.

Not a bad idea to put some kind of reward on the bar. And something you want to grab with your teeth is even better. You could remove the bar, slip a donut or two through, put the bar back on and take a bite of a donut every time you pull yourself up. Now that's motivation.}(

Oh, what a great idea - donuts slipped onto the bar. Dang, I just returned from the grocery store and didn't buy any donuts.x(

Oh this is too good to be true. What motivation.....but I think I'd have to get a wrench to detach my bar and slide the donutSSSSS on. I think I could probably fit about 3 dozen from one end to the other...I'm going downstairs to measure things up!! And just think..one could start with a wide grip and eat their way in to a close grip....or vice versa. YOU GUYS ARE BRILLIANT - and I am proud to call you my chin up checkin buddies!!

Melody...I'm still laughing about you getting kicked out of the no sweets checkin. Guess every checkin isn't for every one!!! Except the checkin in checkin - which I finally had to unsubscribe to because it was clogging up my incoming emails!!!!!! I've officially checked out of that!!

Susan...just so ya know - I finished P90X shoulders and arms in flying colors!! And I'm now going down to count pullups (it may not take long) and then I'm doing a cardio to make up for yesterday's guilt - I think HE #3 ooooooooooh-and I think I'll post my results on the "I hate cardio thread" just to get them riled!}( }( }( ha ha

Briee

Ok, I did 4 neg 8 ct reps before BC. Does that count?

And I'm so envious, I think I can only get 1 dozen donuts on either side of my lat bar.

And about the no sweets check in, they were "sweet" to say I could check in even with my weakness, but I gracefully bowed out before I REALLY got kicked out. (Thanks "no sweet treats gals":) if you read this). I've never been kicked out of anything before (well, maybe that's not totally true) and I couldn't have taken the rejection.

Well Catherine,
I did my first attempt at a pull up! I SUCK! LOL! :7 Now that I got that out the way, maybe I should ask what I should do to work on these. My hubby then showed out and did all of 3. (Rolling eyes here, but I just praised him so he could feel good.) LOL! Anyway, there's a bench on the machine you can put your knees on and pull up from there, so I did that but, I still couldn't go anywhere. So how do I start out slowly and start working my way up!
