Chin-Up Check-In Friday 3.24

Catherine...I love your little pullup guy!!!!

I'd better post my chinup results before Sooooooooooooosan starts the next thread!!

I did 8....AFTER doing P90X shoulders and arms. But I had a LONG break before trying them and my last rep can't be counted as a really truly good chinup. I hung there for a few seconds after 7, and yes I pulled to the top, but that last 3 inches was a series of flailing legs to get my chin over....just like your smiley guy is doing Catherine...yep that was me. After that I did negatives for counts of 5-8 seconds and I strapped a 20 lb dumbbell to me to try another..by now my arms were shaking A LOT!! I did two more sets of three and later in the day a set of three. I have to thank you again Soosan, you are getting me back into the swing of things. I did HE #3 after the chinups and I am feeling that "awesome" completely worked out feeling right now. I love this feeling. Now make sure I don't skip the next two days OKAY!!

Briee (I love chinups - I hate donuts, love chinups, hate donuts)

Hey that's MY chinup guy and enthusiastic smiley!:7 Cause "someone" told me to have more enthusiasm about chinups.:)

Oooooops. My apologies. My brain has obviously shut down for the night...no chin ups tomorrow!!! Yeah!!!!!!! Night night.

Great going, Briee! I think you should celebrate with some donuts.

We'd love to have you! We don't rile easily...but you're welcome to try:p :7

Me too! Speaking of pull-up guys, I was thinking about incorporating one of those scale-thingies into my posts. You know, the ones that keep track of how many more pounds someone needs to lose before they get to their goal weight or how long till someone has a baby. Does anyone know where I can download a generic one that would keep track of my chin-up progress?

I was planning on starting these MWF (unless, of course, someone else wants to start one - and please do!)

Whoa!!! You are amazing, Briee! You and HB need to start a bootcamp or something (maybe incorporating our donut reward system). I can't wait to hear how you progress if this is what you can do after a workout hiatus! Awesome!!!:)

You are too sweet Michele. And I am willing to concede to your theory as a viable method of achieving ones goals - LOL - when I am down right MAD at something/someone I get in GREAT workouts - no question about it....super charged!!

BUT...I used to HATE pushups and I did achieve victory by saying, over and over, I LOVE PUSHUPS. For some weird reason this helped and now they are second nature....just do them for fun. I can't imagine this happening with chin ups YET. I did chinups all through the P90X and then put by the way side for several weeks. Soosan is getting me back on track, bless her little donut loving soul!!

AND..I just ate the best glazed donut with my coffee this morning...ummmmmmm.

Hey Michele, one more thing, I checked your picture trail and you have NO pictures of YOU there. I love to see pictures of who I'm chatting with!! (okay I know I don't have pictures either - my son and dh are in Mexico for 2 weeks, but when they return I'll try to get a picture trail goin - maybe!!) AND Sooooooooooooosan...I'm lookin at the Cathe road trip....one picture had TWO Susans at either end of the group....was one of them you???

Briee

Briee, I just finished a god-awful 30 hate filled minutes of cardio and I have an idea. How about I cart my high step over to your house and I'll plop my butt down on it and watch you do chin-ups!? :p You know, I can count for you AND stand guard over that box of donuts!

Honest to Pete, I don't have a single picture of myself, nor do I own a digital camera, but if you looked at my picture trail then you already have a good idea of what I look like. I bear a striking resemblance to my dog.

I'm not sure I should tell you, Catherine. You'd probably post him in my face everyday. :p ;-) :7

Oh well, bestsmileys.com.

Oh, and I mean ooooh, my entire upper body is sore today and it normally doesn't happen from just BC w/o so it must be from the negative chinups.

Marla G. posted some pictures w/me in them. (I brought my camera but didn't realize my dumb card was full.) Anyway, I'm in three or four of these:

One of the pictures of Marla and me says, "With Susan (Soosan)." I should be Miss America.

Just one last thing then I will leave you gals alone:D

Sooooooooooooosan, you are quite lovely, as is Marla. Truly!

Michele

Michele...ROTFLOL. I used to look my dog when we had our golden retreiver, but now the kids have this rat terrier thing. (sometimes I look a little rat-like too ;( )

Soosan...holy cow girl, you have awesome definition in your long lean arms....the pictures are beautiful. BUT, I can see how much tougher it would be to get up to the bar. I'm so short...I don't have far to go - I almost feel like I'm cheating now - really my 7 chinups are probably like 1 for you - distance wise!! BUT...I know you WILL get up there. Just give it time. How tall are you?? (those road trip pictures still make me sick with jealousy)

Briee (I'm a shrimpy 5'2 with short arms)

Michele and Briee, you guys are too kind! Keep in mind these are post-workout, non-shower, going-on-no-sleep pictures, so they're not the most flattering. Several modeling agencies had approached me after Marla first posted these pictures, but all that modeling would tear me away from my workouts, and then I'd never reach my chin-up goal.:p (And your "dog" comment made me laugh out loud too, Michele!)

Thanks for the "awesome definition in my long lean arms" comment, Briee. I work hard for what little I have! I can just imagine what your arms look like with all the heavy lifting you do. Are you naturally strong and athletic?

I agree that long limbs are a disadvantage when doing chin-ups (and push-ups!), but that won't stop me from trying.}(

Oh, and I'm 5'9." Cathe and crew are about 5'2", so if you look at the picture of Marla and me with Brenda, Cedie and Lorraine, you'll get a picture of your and my relative height.

Do either of you plan on attending a future road trip? The next time she schedules one, I'm there! I would love to meet you guys.

Soosan, you are too dedicated, throwing a modeling career for chinups :7 :7 :7

Oh yes, my arms are just huge...kind of a cross between Arnold Swartz and Spongebob Squarepants (falling closer to the latter of the two). But, like Spongebob, I have no bicep vein YET!! As far as athletic... I was in highschool, but I can hardly remember that far back. After 15 years of babies and pregnancies (gaining 60 lbs with each prego and not loosing it all), I began working out. (almost 4 years ago). I can honestly say that I feel I'm in better shape than I have ever been. Yes I remember being "skinny" when I was 19, but not strong and muscular by any stretch of the imagination. Isn't it cool to feel better when your 40 than when you were 20. Can't wait until I'm 60!!!!! ya hoo!!

Briee

I forgot to say...I'd LOVE to go on a road trip. My dh is in Mexico with my oldest son on a mission trip for 10 days - helping to build homes etc. I would have LOVED to have gone, but had to stay with the other 5. I believe I could hit him with the "you got to go Mexico last March...so maybe I could just take 2-3 days to go to Cathe's" line. I don't know if this would fly, comparatively speaking. Would you guys mind if I built you a home while I was there, maybe there is something else you need....then I can qualify this trip as being something other than purely self indulgent. I'll have to think on this one and develop the argument a bit. How about Rocky....does he need a new nest??? :7
