chicken to cut back running

Cathlete
Hi all,

I do cathe weight workouts twice a week and then run 45 minutes another 3 days a week. I'm just a little bored with running and want to do some cathe cardio instead...but I'm afraid I'll get bigger. Do any of you stay thin and NOT run?

I'm not someone who has the attention span to exercise more than 45-50 minutes a day, either.

Would love to hear from some of you!

Bella :)

Cathe's interval cardio workouts are effective. IMAX2 & IMAX3 are great and clock in at just under an hour. Kick Punch & Cunch will blast calories too. Also any of the Hard Core Extreme workouts or the Terminator workouts will add variety while still keeping you challenged.

But do they keep you as thin as running? I am curious as to this also as I wonder even if you burn the same amount of calories does it keep your hips as toned doing cathe aerobics as opposed to running.

Running is a great exercise and if you really like the results of running, keep it up. That being said, however, you'll find that the variety and challenge of some of Cathe's aerobic workouts will keep you slim as well.

It sounds like you really need additional convincing, so why not replace ONE of your runs with a Cathe video - a challenging one like the ones suggested. Maybe get a few. Do those for a month or two, to make sure you are still where you want to be. If that works, try replacing another one - or maybe that will give you just enough variety to enjoy your runs as well. The other thing is you may find that you're able to go longer with a Cathe Cardio video - running, as much as I love it, is boring. Cathe makes you concentrate and I find that I'm done with the whole workout before I realized I was actually working out.

Bella,

i agree with everything that Christine has said. When I found out about Cathe back in January I felt much the same as you do right now. I was so burnt out from running. I did exactly what Christine said I replaced one of my runs with a Cathe cardio work out and then another. I was at a point when I was barely running at all, but doing all Cathe cardio. I actually started missing my running, however. So, I added some back in, but I still do my DVDs. I feel like I finally have a good balance of everything now. I also think that it's a good idea to cross train so that you don't get bored. I'm currently following the April 2005 rotation, which doesn't call for a whole lot of running. On the cardio days I may just do an interval run on the treadmill if I don't feel like doing the called DVD.

Thanks guys...I know Cathe cardio will keep me fit, just not sure it will do that hip-n-tummy slimming magic that running does. I took your advice and did Imax yesterday and it was soooo much fun! I think I tweaked an ankle a little, I might have to get some serious aerobic shoes for Imax.

I would happily run only once a week, but in the past that has caused me to lose my running ability (translation, feel yucky the whole way.) I'll experiment.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and ideas!

:) Bella

Yes, get some cross training/studio shoes for sure. I was using my running shoes for all the Cathe cardio and my knees were not happy. I recently got the Ryka Enlight II and they are so cushiony. I love them. The come up higher on the ankle, so I had to get used to that.

Are you currently doing any weight training or ab work outs. I'm getting great results from CM 3x's a week. I'm seeing some definition there. All my leg work (PLB,L&G,GSL) outs are really starting to kick in too.

I've learned from this site that it's good to keep your muscles guessing. Good luck!:)

I haven't run for over a year because I got a stress fracture. It's been awful to not be able to run!!

But, my complaining aside, I didn't gain weight. I did end up eating less though, I'm pretty sure, because I knew it wasn't all fairy tales any more. I think my body fat percentage went up a point or two as well, since I was used to running 3 hours at a time on weekends, and at least an hour 4-5 days a week.

If you keep up with other cardio, you should be fine. I'd also suggest Low Max. I don't have the Imaxes, although they're on my list. Low Max has some premixes of 45 minutes and they'll work your legs pretty darn good.

Oh. LOL. Just saw this was directed to those who "stay thin". That may not be me these days, LOL. I'm sure normal overweight people think I'm thin. Maybe I could qualify that way!! ;)

Thanks Dallas - I'm sitting here with aching knees and debating on whether or not wearing my running shoes while doing Cathe cardio could cause that. I've been debating Ryka's.
