Chicago Vacation

Hi, all! I'm headed to Chicago with DH and DDs (13 and 17) for a family wedding, and then we're staying on for some touristy fun for a few days. I'm wondering if anyone has done one of the bike tours leaving from Navy Pier, and if so, if you think they're worth the time/$$. I felt like having a guide might be better, in terms of knowing what we're seeing. Also, if anyone has ideas of things we must see/do, feel free to chime in! Such a big city, so many choices! We do plan to spend time at Navy Pier, the Art Institute, and probably the Chicago Botanic Garden.
Thanks in advance!
Allison

Hi Allison -
I just got back from a long weekend in Chicago, which wasn't nearly long enough! The Science & Industry Museum was awesome - it's huge. We didn't do the bike tour but I think that sounds fun. We did do a horse and carriage ride one evening around downtown which was very cool. Lawry's Prime Rib Restaraunt was really good if you're looking for a "nice" place to eat. We were treated like royalty. Just a few suggestions... Have fun!

I went to Chicago for training in November... We just visited the Sears Tower, I dont remember the price, but it was very cheap... Its nice to visit there... Besides, its in downtwon and I really enjoyed the walk in those luxury enourmeous buildings/.

Thanks for asking this question, Allison. I'm interested in the responses, too.

I'm also wondering if any local experts can give advice on visiting Emmett Till's grave in Burr Oak Cemetery. Any tips on how to get there would be much appreciated!

When my friends went they got a city pass. www.gochicagocard.com They have different packages so there might be one that works for you. We got one when we went to Atlanta and I highly recommend it. Apart form saving money, which is always good, you save a ton of time because you don't have to stand in line. It's great to walk up to a attraction that has a huge line and just breeze right in.

Oh, so many fun things to do in Chicago! I always love to go to the Shedd Aquarium. And, I always go to Second City when I'm in the Windy City. I don't know if you like that kind of comedy, it's not for everybody, but I love satire. Have a fun time!

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone! The city pass sounds like a very good thing, and I love the restaurant ideas. Second City would be great, if we could work that out. We're staying at a hotel in Oak Brook and taking the train in each day, so we're excited about that slice of city life. And I did book a bike tour with Bobby's Bike Hike -- the Lakefront Neighborhoods Tour. Their website (bobbysbikehike.com) is very amusing, so I'm thinking the tour will be lots of fun, and a good overview of the area.

I'll keep you posted!
Thanks,
Allison

Hi Allison - I live in the Chicago suburbs west of Oak Brook and work downtown. The bike tour looks like fun. I just recently did a Segway tour on the lake front with a group of people from work. It was fun to do a tour even as a local. Since you'll be at Navy Pier, you might want to consider the Seadog cruise on Lake Michigan. I did this with my son about 4 years ago and it was great.

Enjoy your trip here!
