chemical pregnancy

Hi,
I am most likely having a "chemical preganancy" at this time and was wondering if anyone experienced this before. I am 41 and ttc my 2nd child. I had gotten pregant last summer and miscarried at 5.5 weeks. I finally got pregnant again (5weeks now) but most likely will miscarry again. I have tested positive for a week now, although the + was very, very faint. My dr tested my levels on Thursday and they were 80. She says that is very low and I will most likely start my period. She called this a chemical pregnancy. I have not started yet, but have the feeling I will. I decided to take a pregnancy test today, just to see and it was as positive as you can get. My Dr did say I "could" go on to have a healthy pregnancy, and that it might just be to early. But I really dont feel that is the case with the number so low.
Has anyone had any experiences like this?
Thanks
Susan

Oh Susan! I'll be praying for you. ;) I"m thinking if the "+" is darker that your HCG levels are getting stronger,...so this could be a really good sign. Keep us posted.

Susan, I wish you all the best. the waiting is such a hard part.
Let us know....you're in our thoughts.

Susan,
I had a "chemical pregnancy" back in August. I am not really sure what had happened. I am now pregnant, though. Let us know what happens.

I have no experience with this. I just wanted to note that my understanding of a chemical pregnancy was that it's something that comes and goes without most women being aware of it. Like you'd get your period before you ever knew you were pregnant.

In other words, anytime I've heard someone discuss a "chemical pregnancy", they were maybe 2 weeks in before they miscarried.

It seems to me like you're a bit far along for that to be the case, but I'm no doctor.

It sounds more like the real deal to me, albeit early on.
Just wanted to wish you good luck!

Susan~when did you get a + prgnancy test? Are you sure of when you ovulated? I know that 80 is not a low number if you were say 4w2 or 3 days.. this seems to be where you were at. If the test is darker than previous tests then Iwould think the hcg is rising. Did you dr. order a repeat beta?

I have had 1 m/c at 10 weeks and 1 that I consider a chemical pregnancy. I got a + test one day and a darker one the next day.. went the weekend and then took one monday and it was lighter.. I had bloodwork and it was low.. then I started bleeding 4 days later.. so about 5 weeks along. The dr. said this was just a chem. pregnancy. I don't think 80 sounds low if you are really early.. now if you are 6 weeks and have a hcg of 80 that is low. Good luck!!

Thank you all for your respones. If I calculate I am exactly 5 weeks. The reason I called the dr in the frist place is that I spotted...and by spotted I mean 1 tiny spot and that was it. But after last summer's m/c I wanted to call just in case. I took a preg test on Wednesday and it was a very faint. Went and had levels checked on Thursday they were 80. Then today I had a full dark line. Who knows! I will for sure keep you guys posted.

Well if that is the case then I think 80 is def. within the normal range for how far long you were for the bloodwork. I wuold call monday and ask for a repeat beta.. it should double every 48 hours so by Monday morning it should be at least 320 or more. It might ease your mind.

I sure hope everything turns out! I am just starting 6 weeks today, and I, like you, was too scared to really be excited on the chance that this could be a chemical pregnancy. I tested on day 21 of my cycle and actually had a pretty positive result. I was feeling pretty nauseated, that's why I tested. So I called the DR, who told me not to get excited, could be a chemical pregnancy(by their definition a egg that is fertilized and fails at a solid implantation in the uterus). They ordered a quant hcg for 2 days later and it came back at 70, and then the dr became very optimistic, however I was too scared to be. That was over 2 weeks ago and I am still pregnant, and feeling worse everyday (in a good way). My miscarriages both happened at the 6-7 week time so I know this is the crunch time for me at least. I think that the waiting is the killer and I pray that everything works out, I just thought you would like to know you do have someone out here in the same boat.:)

Mikkia,
Oh I do hope everything is ok with your pregnancy!!! Hang in there and keep me posted. This is stressful time isnt it!
Other than sore breasts I have no other symptoms. With my dd I was never sick and really never tired that I remember..she is 8 now.
My dr did say it was "possible" I could have a healthy pregnancy, but I can still hear her voice saying, "oh its only 80". I just assumed that was very low since I had no clue what it should be..and I assumed in a few days I would miscarry like last time. I guess now its a waiting game for both of us.
Susan

Well, tonight while at VBS I started what I guess is my period. Mikkia, I'll say a prayer for you girl! Hang in there.
Susan

Susan, I am so sorry it did not work out for you this month.
Mikkia, We'll be anxious to hear how you're coming along.

(((((hug))))) for both of you!

Thank you Kate! Although I was somewhat prepared for this, it is still a blow. I'm going to keep trying. Oh, and too cool you are having a 3rd girl!! Your dh is going to get estrogen overload in a few years!
Susan

Oh Susan, I am so so sorry. I'll keep praying for you and a successful pregnancy. I am still hanging in there, trying to think positive.
Thanks for all your kind words everyone. It is so nice having support here. I haven't really wanted to tell anyone about this in case...so this board is a real life saver.
Kate-a 3rd girl! I have 3 sisters, they will have such a special bond, so wonderful!
