::: CHEETAHS ::: Wed., 10/18

Family is gone and my 6 mile pace run is done so I finally have some time for personals.

Cathy, I'm impressed that you do two workouts in one day even after working all day. I haven't done L&G in a long, long time but I do like it alot.

Wendy, Can't help at all with winter running gear recommendations. I wear shorts and a tank or t-shirt year round. I often start out with a long sleeve shirt but peel it off at least by the 1st mile. I have always told my DH that if we ever move to where there are real winters then we're gonna have to buy a TM. I'm so wimpy when it comes to the weather! Sorry, you've got to miss running class again!!:(

Sunny, Sounds like an awesome workout!

Christine, After SG I was down a few lbs but the carb loading I have done for the past week and 1/2 since has taken care of that problem!! LOL!! I know this is very belated but congrats on the new job! And also at keeping the workouts up in the midst of the newness of it! When I have major changes in my routine like that my habits (but only the good ones) seem to fall apart!x(

Hi Shelley, Sorry you're still dealing with an injury. Will you still be on track for RnR in January?

Carole, Another awesome workout, of course:D. Hope you're not coming down with something. I've been sneezing like I do when I've got a cold coming on but I refuse to acknowledge it!!! LOL!!

Laura, Wow! I could not imagine me teaching a class! I am very impressed! Do you use the same routine or change it up all the time? What exactly does preparing for a class entail?

Judy, I'm feeling terrific actually! And still loving every second I can get out there to run. And I'd have to say you are well trained too considering the workouts you do while fighting a cold.

Susan, It's OK.......you're in the company of "freaks" here. I ran a marathon a week and 1/2 ago and went for a hilly 6 mile run with an average 8:53 pace today. Did I need to do that? The run, yes. That pace, no!! BUT it felt soooooo gooooood!!! LOL!!:7 :7

Jennifer, The two miles will be good for you! Enjoy them and the doughnuts! Now, that is one food that I rarely eat. Maybe once every couple of years or so.

Hi Jess, How's the knee doing? I know you've got to be missing running like crazy! Hopefully you'll be back at it soon. Did you say something about pumpkin pancakes a few days ago or am I imagining things? If I remember correctly please tell me how to make them!:9 :9

Welcome RunnerGirl and Elaine/DarkPhoenix! Elaine/DP, I have Galloway's Marthon, You Can Do It! book. I've never followed his training plans but the book is excellent. Don't think you can go wrong with his advice.

I believe that's everyone. Talk to you all later!

Hey Cheetahs:) I thoroughly enjoyed my extra long weekend (the hamper's empty, the bathroom gleaming, the yard is tidy) but am glad to be back to work today. I did KickMax combinations today and some yoga/pilates, I couldn't turn with my kicks but still got a good workout. I can't wait to see the PT tomorrow, my right medial malleolus (inside of the ankle) hurts like the dickens if it gets bumped, I can't stand with my feet together because of itx( I gave a hot stone massage to a woman today who ran a 1/2 in May, she was chatty and curious about how I trained for mine, it turned into quite a co-incidence as our finishing times were almost identical!!

Cathy, sounds like LG got ya GOOOD!!:D

Sunny, good luck on your certification! Training sessions can be so fun, you meet such awesome people! I love ME abs, Cathe seems so happy and relaxed in it (even when she's workin' us HARD!)

Wendy, too bad hubby's work is keeping you from class. Have fun hunting for running gear bargains!

Christine, Chinese and Indian in the same day huh, I could go for that!:9 :9 I actually had Chana Masala for breakfast today, soooo good, it took me almost 40 years to try chick peas, now I can't get enough of them!

Shelly, thanks, I'm so ready to do whatever the PT says I need to do. I'm hoping for an x-ray because it's so tender to touch! Groin injuries are brutal, so slow to heal but you really are a Trooper so I know you'll go the distance and recover better than ever!:)

LD, I hear you on the Slow and Heavy, it's gathering dust on shelf as we speak but PUB never gets stale.

Elaine, welcome to the best check-in on the boards;-) :)

Carole, hope your run and MM went well. Too bad DH isn't as keen on the elliptical these days. Oh, I had a lovely visit with you last night checking out your picture trail, you've done a very nice job on it. I love our new monitor as I can actually see the picutres now, not just light and shadows:)

Jess, that's too cute about the Girls and picture day. I love our picture of Faith in Grade 1, I sent her out the door with tidy, even pig tails but by picture time they're messy and wonky and she has a crumpled kleenex sticking out of the chest pocket of her dress. It's so true to how she was at 6, I just love that shot.:)

Laura, great job on teaching you first class!! Sounds like you are a busy Lady these days:) I loved teaching because it felt like getting paid for doing something I would have done anyway!

Elaine, hope you and DH had a nice lunch:) That's great that you're running again but if you're like me you're loving mixing up your workouts. Have fun with MM...love the ab work in that one!

Judy, thanks for asking:) The best I can say is that it hasn't gotten worse :) You've been so committed to doing your PT exercises which is terrific, consistency really makes all the difference!!

Susan, I would really struggle with no cardio for a week as well. Not sure if it would be harder on me or my poor family:+

Jennifer, I love that...donut run...makes me smile:) There really is something unique and wonderful about running with buddies :)

I'd better get ready to go back to work, have a great afternoon all!

Take Care
Laurie:)

Oops, either I missed you Laurie or we were posting at the same time! I didn't have lunch with DH, I had to pack it for him to take to work. You know, the horrible lunch packing task? Just one of the reasons I look forward to weekends, holidays and summer vacation!! LOL!

Elaine (TYR, like the new NN!) ~ WTG on the 6 mile run!! I'm jealous! My knee honestly feels fine. That's what is killing me about this stupid IT band. It doesn't hurt at all until I attempt to run. I tried on Sunday & made it a mile before the pain came back. Then it hurt on Mon & by today it is fine again. I'm not doing too bad w/out running since I got my step & new workouts!! I'm loving IMAX 2 & 3 (did 3 for the first time today!) so at least I feel like I'm still getting in some good cardio. Plus I hit the weights hard w/ GS this week.

Yes, I did post about pumpkin pancakes, here's a link to the recipe http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pumpkin-pancakes/detail.aspx

Pumpkin pancakes

2 cups all-purpose flour (I used 1 c. whole wheat flour & 1 c. old fashioned oats)
3 tablespoons brown sugar (I didn't use the sugar)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (I only used 1 Tbsp. oil)
2 tablespoons vinegar
DIRECTIONS
In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, pumpkin, egg, oil and vinegar. Combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon, ginger and salt, stir into the pumpkin mixture just enough to combine.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

These turned out sooo good, my kids gobbled them up. We love pumpkin around here so anything w/ pumpkin is a hit!! HTH!

OK, the furnace is fixed (I have no idea how much it cost to fix it, but he was here less than an hour!), I got some baking done, played w/ Allison, and got a few things done around here.

I'm loving http://www.cookinglight.com for recipes. I've been trying to make different things because we seem to get stuck in a rut of the same meals!

Well, my rest day ended up being IMAX 3!! So much for rest, I was dripping w/ sweat by the end. I felt good this afternoon & just wanted to try it out since I hadn't done it yet! I really liked it, the IMAX's are so fun & great interval training! I miss speedwork while running, so I guess this will have to do for now until I can run again.

I need another shower now- yuck! ;-) It stopped raining though so I think we'll be doing some yard work to get ready for the cookout tomorrow when my dh gets home. We have a big burn pile ready for the bonfire since we lost that huge maple tree a few weeks ago.

OK, better get moving! Have a great night!

Hello again,

I ran 4.5 miles and only a little ache here and there in the sciatica area. I ran very slow though. I will do an hour of yoga tonight.

Cathy, I love Legs and glutes. I never use the ankle weights and I always feel it.

Sunnydelite, I love a nice long run on the treadmill. You proabably burned some major calories!

Wendy, great job with Imax. I love that workout. It is a little dated, but kicks my butt!

Christine, Yum!!! Chinese food and then Inidan, sounds good to me. I know what you mean about the next morning feeling like an 400 lb moose. You will get back into your healthy eating.

Shelly, I think crosstraining is great idea while you are healing from your injury. Have fun with Muscle Max.

Runnergirl, I still do Taebo on occasion. When I do I am always suprised how challenging it is.

Carole, enjoy your run and muscle max. It looks like a lot of people are visiting muscle max this week.

Jess, I hope you start to feel better. Are your kids sick too?

Laura, Congrats on teaching a great class. I think after the first few you will feel most comfortable.

Elaine, Awesome run. I am glad you are a freak too}(

Judy, awesome workout!!!

Darkphoenix, great walk/run. That is how I started running and it really worked well for me.

Jennifer, join the club that has cheated on no running this week. I think getting donuts after a run is a splendid idea.

Laurie, great workout! Are you a masseuse?

Hopefully I got everyone. Have a great day ladies!

susan

Thanks, Susan!! I like it & IMAX 2. I actually love all of the workouts I got w/ my step- Cardio & Weights, IMAX 2, STep Blast, and I have yet to try out Step, Jump, & Pump but I will soon!!

I'm glad your sciatica is feeling better. Take it easy!

Well, I think Allison has caught the cold, she's been sniffling & sneezing all morning & went down for an early nap. Hannah has been coughing & sneezing a bit also, but I sent her to school since it was picture day. I didn't get a call, so I'm assuming she felt ok. The only one that seems fine so far is Kiersten & I hope she doesn't catch it! It's been a lingering thing, I've had it over a week now!

Jess, couple of questions about the pumpkin pancakes...... You omit the sugar but what about the vinegar? Or was that a typo? LOL!!! I'm saying to myself "That sounds disgusting!". I remember you mentioning that you hate maple syrup but do your girls like syrup on them? What do you use if not syrup?

Just came in from a 6-mile run. Felt pretty good but will feel even better when I hop in the shower in a few minutes.

Wendy :: I like L&G – mainly to do something different -- but I don’t know that I’d call it a favorite…I think I still prefer GS. Hey, on the subject of winter gear…have you checked out that runnerswarehouse site you recommended to me in the summer for sneakers? I think I will do that myself as I seem to recall some good prices on clothes, too.

Sunny :: ooh, intervals – tough workout! I do find L&G challenging, but I guess I wonder at the same time if leg lifts on the floor really do strengthen/tone your muscles. Any thoughts on that? Legs & glutes are the area I really need to work and burn fat!

Shelly :: did you take a rest day or opt for MM?

Christine :: sounds like a lethal combo of food…hope you had fun with S&H. Haven’t done that one in a while. When I get off my GS kick, I think I’ll go back to that.

Carole :: could be I needed the zzz’s…I’ve been pretty busy the last couple of months and have had a particularly heavy meeting schedule before & after school these last two weeks…that always seems to zap me. Hope you’re whoopin’ that bug. Did you feel up to working out? BTW, I couldn’t believe that Willa and Max were voted off last week. Who do you think’ll go tonight? It should be Jerry, but we’ll see…

Laura :: sounds like you taught a great class!! Woohoo!!

Susan :: You are so disciplined about doing the yoga…I admire that…I confess, it is the first thing I am willing to cut out, which is silly bc I desperately need the stretch & always feel glad after I do it. However, I joined a new studio in August and bought a 10-class pass…I’ve been going to class very sporadically…maybe once every 2-3 weeks…the thing is, if I don’t use up all 10 passes by mid-November, I have to pay extra to extend the time on them…so I’m kind of annoyed by the whole thing. Though I like the live classes, after I use up these passes, I’m going to just stick to the DVDs I have. That way there's no pressure...It just burns me up to lose money like that. Uh, that got a little long…sorry for the random rant. :)

Laurie :: sorry that ankle continues to plague…L&G did work me good…I felt it when I ran this afternoon…About that hot stone massage, how good IS that? I’ve been tempted to try one at my spa but always wind up going for the regular ol’ Swedish.

Elaine (TYR) :: thank you…I don’t always do two workouts in a day…very often I intend to and then don’t have the energy for both.

Hi to LD, Jess, Elaine-DP, Judy, Jennifer, and anyone else I’ve missed. Have a great night!

cathy :)

Just poppin' in quickly to say that I chose IntervalMax as my IMAX of choice for today. I did the entire thing and could have done it AGAIN if I had time!...............NOT!:p :7 :7 :7 :7

Well, I'm beat. Going to try to rest on the couch while DS watches The Wiggles and plays a bit before bedtime.

I'll catch up with personals either later this evening (when I get my 2nd wind!) or tomorrow morning!

Ciao Bellas!:*

elaine, yes Iwill change up the class everytime. I prepare my own music also. I try to pick music that makes me feel like dancing. I am trying to think of different challenging routines. I figure the classes are 8weeks so if I come up with 8 different routines I could use them in both classes each week and then after the first 8 weeks just start over again. I dont think anyone will remember the exact routines. I will I sure come up with different stuff here and there.

jess that sciatica hurts. I had that too from falling down stairs and landing on my tail bone when I was in my twenties. I had it for several weeks and then it let up but from time to time it would act up. havent had that problem in a long time though. goodluck with it!

Hi Susan:) Glad your sciatic behaved for the most part on your run. I am indeed a Registered Massage Therapist practising in a clinic and a high end day spa. I see lots of people in clinic with sciatica and for the most part get great results if people are willing to do their part with homecare and remedial exercises. It can be a long road back to pain free, I feel for you but know you'll listen to your body. I am also a certified yoga teacher and think it's wonderful that you are practising:) When the body is holding on tight to something it won't be pushed but it will certainly give.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Actually, I *accidentally* omitted the brown sugar, oops!! And yes, I did use the vinegar. If you mix milk w/ vinegar, it will make buttermilk which makes wonderful pancakes! It does sound disgusting, but they really were yummy!!

Yes, I do hate syrup (wow, you have a great memory!!). I am a peanut butter girl, I put PB on my pancakes, I always have. Honey would be good also, my dh puts PB & honey on his pancakes. I do buy the *light* syrup for my girls sometimes, but generally they like PB & a few chocolate chips strategically placed to make a happy face. :9

HTH!

Hey All!

Much better now! I’m not feeling like a 400 pound idiot! :p

LAURA – WAY TO GO!!! What an accomplishment! I’m so glad it went well!

Shelly – Oh, the doggies are sweet – they don’t come home late, or have teenage temper tantrums. So, they deserve it. *grins*

Carole - *grins sheepishly* Well, I stand by my previous remarks about your good looks whether or not you meant it! I like the wondermutts, too. They’re so sweet!

Jess – glad the furnace was a quick fix! A bonfire/weiner roast? What a great idea!! You’ll have fun! And I am a big fan of www.cookinglight.com. I like www.lightandtasty.com as well – but, they started requiring a subscription for most of their recipes, so I gave up….

Elaine (TYR) – I’m so impressed – you can run now! You’re a cheetah through and through! Thanks for the congrats! I find my eating much tougher to handle than my exercise habits. I go stir crazy if I don’t workout!

Susan – oh, you’ll have to have DH’s chickpeas!! When I was in Dehli, we went to a restaurant that specializes in pindi chana (chick peas). I could live on those for the rest of my life. DH comes close, but…

Waves to Wendy and Cathy and wonders what the east coast girls are doing up so late… :p
