Cathlete
G'morning, cheetahs...

First day of school with the students, so I'm gonna be out the door & off to work early today. I'm *really* missing the opportunity to run/work out in the AM! This afternoon, it'll be either a run or KM for the first time. Not sure yet. Also need to get in some type of upper body. Maybe GS CT. Haven't done that one in a while.

Have a great day, everyone. I look forward to catching up on what's going on later today.

-cathy :)

G'morning Cathy!! Good luck at your first day of school!! Enjoy KM, it's one of my favorites! It's actually the only cardio Cathe that I have since I don't have a step.... YET! :p Love the leg conditioning drills too, they don't feel like they're doing that much as you do them but you'll feel it tomorrow!!!

Early morning for me. I woke up at 4:20 for some reason so now I'm just waiting til 4:55 to head out the door for my 5 mile run w/ Erin & Melissa. Erin hasn't run all week since she's still having ITB issues, she's taking it easy since it's taper anyway (and she's run 5 marathons so she already knows what's going on!). Greg said that he felt sorry for Melissa being stuck w/ me all alone. And she said that he should feel sorry for her since I only have one speed... FAST! LOL I pushed her a bit y'day!

Then I have to get ready, then get the girls on the bus, and then Allison & I will head out to spend the day w/ my Grandma & Aunt Meg. I am looking forward to it & I know they will be surprised to! I have a goodie bag of toys, books, silly putty, etc to keep Allison busy- she's easily entertained anyway! Plus DVD's for the trip there & back! ;-)

OK, glutes are still sore today after KM Tues, and an 8 mile run & PLB y'day! Feels good though, I actually like running a bit sore! }(

Have a great day & I'll try to check in later tonight!

Hugs,

Hey Cathy, Jess and all who follow!

I'm off to work this morning and hopefully nothing will go wrong!:p

I don't have much time now but just wanted to pop in w/a hello.

Yesterday after work I found the spunk to do RttC. I wasn't feeling strong though so I bumped the weight down a bit for alot of the exercises. In ways I sometimes swear I am getting weaker instead of stronger. UGH!x(

The first night of running class was different. We worked on pace. They timed us doing a quarter mile run at what we think out training pace is 2x to see if we were consistent. I came w/in 3 seconds both times BUT the pace is lots faster than I find myself running when I'm on my who so obviously I did something wrong! LMAO!:p

Gotta go shower now.

I'll BBL!:)

Hey Ladies :) The Girlies are back to school so we're back to getting up early (mixed blessing, I get way more done but I do love that extra sleep during the summer). So glad that our internet is back up and running!! My best friend Ruth, who I'll run the half with, is coming to Kingston today so we'll run 8k together. I'm really looking forward to it.

Cathy, hope your first day with students is a good one and that you get a class full of eager students.

Jess, you are the early bird Girl!:) Savour that KM DOMS and have a great day with your daughter, Mom and Aunt.

Wendy, glad to see you've signed up for another run! I really like pace running, did you do it at a track?

Coffee's ready and I gotta make lunches......have I mentioned how much a HATE making lunchesx( but I love knowing that my Girls are eating well and not consuming a lot of cafeteria food.

Later Cheetahs

Take Care
Laurie

Hi Wendy & Laurie!! Aren't we all the early ones today?

Well, I ended up doing a 4 mile + 1.75 mile run. Dumb dog I thought was stuck in a fence of a bean field & turns out he had found a cat to play with!!! He was barking his fool head off & I couldn't get him to come to me. We ran back to Melissa's & she drove me back & finally got him to follow me & we ran the 1.75 miles home. UGH! What a way to start the day! At least he wasn't hurt which is what I was afraid of. And I got a little speedwork in there too. LOL

OK, sorry no more time, gotta shower & get ready for the trip today! Have a good one!

Hugs,

Jes- your adventure sounds funny and frustrating. Thank goodness it worked out well.

Wendy- have a good work day

Laurie- I prefer to send packed lunches too. DD wanted to buy today becaue she had too much stuff to bring in. SHe has a swim meet after school today.

Today is Gym Style Back, Biceps and Shoulders and some kind of abs. I may or may not add cardio. I will run again tomorrow.

Yesterday at Physaical Therapy I did 4 new exercises for my hip including stabilizing and strengthening my glute medius. I had already done the stability ball exercises from PLB in the morning. Cathe's floor leg exercises are really hlepful BTW.

I am up to about 12 exercises to be done every other day from PT, plus Cathe floor work every other day.

OK thanks for listeneing.

Hope everyone has a pleasant Thursday and work out.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy..I know what you mean about this cheetah checkin and not being home to post!!! I just love the Garmin! Hope the day with the kids back goes well...

Jess...I have run with a HR monitor for years so I wouldn't have even considered a Garmin with a HR monitor. Yes, I did get the 305. I wrote a review below...:)...Have a good 5 mile run today.

Wendy...that is cool you found another 5K!!! Consistant running is good for you to try...Sorry about the job....maybe things will smooth out a bit as the days go on? I hope today work is better.

Laurie...I wondered where you had been...glad you are back with us...:)..Enjoy your run with Ruth today..

Adri...thanks for your prayers..:)...I am also glad my neice is back here in CAL. I hope you enjoy your first day of school.

Judy...most of the time a stitch is from shallow breathing...like in starting out a bit fast and not quite catching enough of your breath. Have fun with GS today. Are the exercises helping your hip pain?..I will review the Garmin below.

Shelly...I can talk about running to my DH but overall he is not real supportive. Sorry about your hectic work weekend. I know you were appreciated! A half marathon???....you are insane, but I love it! I am also happy John seems to be progressing...:)

Jennifer...I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. Just take it easy,

Katie...thanks for sharing about your daughter. I am happy she was wanting to go to preschool yesterday!

Christine...thanks...:)...glad you got to your Dad's safely.

Barb...thanks, we d have a very supportive family and I am sure it helps...:)

Susan...very nice pace for a 7 miler! The Garmin is awesome...it does so much stuff!!! I'll review it below...

Katrina...great workout yesterday!

Colleen...good workouts the last few days...

So I ran with the Garmin yesterday. All I did was put in my weight, birth date and gender info. I didn't really read alot in the book yet. So off I go...I'm looking at the data info and wondering where it shows my HR?...I change thru the data pages and still no HR. So I stop and walk and I see on the 1st page way up at the top (the size of an ant!!) is my HR!!! OMG...I could never see that running....:(...so I continued the run happy to see my distance and other info. Then I started reading in the book when I was done...WOW...I can change the data info to whatever I want. That is a fantastic feature!...So next run I will see my HR!! I really like all the different features and then being able to download the info on your PC I can get rid of my paper logs now. Garmins are really great tools!!!

Today I am doing S&H legs, and my Elliptical for 50 min. iClimb 9 for 20 min and then one of the Elliptical's programs for 30 min.

Have a great day...:)

Good morning!

I've got 5 miles on my schedule today. Seems like I should be running 10 but for some reason I put 5 on there when I created my schedule. I guess it is because this is supposed to be a sort of down week before I gear up for my next (and final) 20 mile run. Soooo, I think I'll go ahead and run the 5 and then do 45 minutes of elliptical. I'm down to the last episode on the 1st season of 24 and the suspense is killing me! The plot twists in that show are something! You never see them coming. Anyway, perfect incentive for putting in more elliptical time.

Carole, Have I ever mentioned that I love my Garmin?:) :) I just knew you would love yours too!

Wendy, Working on pace at the track is a good thing. I'm glad you have another 5K picked out.

Laurie, I hate packing lunches too but everyday I send my DD, DS and DH off with healthy food to get them through the day. Another reason why I love summer and when my DH has a day off from work! I hate unloading the dishwasher too but hated housework is a whole other topic. Have fun on your 8K run.

Cathy, I admire you for getting your workouts in after work. I know I'd struggle with that!

Judy, I love Cathe's floor exercises too. Last year when I was traing for a marathon I had an injury and the ball exercises in GS Legs really helped strengthen the area and got me to the start line (and the finish too!).

Jess, So what time are you shooting for in the marathon? What is the course like? Which marathon is it exactly?

Hello to everyone else!

Good morning, cheetahs!

I am always amazed at how many posts are on here by the time I log on, but then I remember many of you are on the east coast and it's almost 10 already over there :).

Unfortunately no time for individual shout-outs for me today, but I hope everyone has a good day! I am going to attempt 30-45 min on the elliptical today to get back into the swing of things. Nothing too strenuous!

Till tomorrow,
Jennifer

Hye Sekcy Cheetahs!!!
OMG I just tried to post this a sec ago and had alot written and IT DIDN'T POSTx( x( x( I am SOO mad. Well, I'll have to say it ALL again.
School was GREAT today!! I saw all my friends and are in almost all the same classes w/ most of them! This year might be ok;-)
Today is biceps, triceps, and abs at the gym. Wasn't ganna do cardio today but its beautiful out today. So I'm jsut ganna do a 4.5 mile jog (nothin too fancy) and do no cardio tomorrow. Figures whenever I have to do cardio is sux out and its a no cardio day its beautiful. I swear the weather knows me better than I know myself!!!

Cathe- I know how you feel. You can't w/o in the mornings anymore because of teaching and I can't talk to all of you guys in the morning for hours anymore}( I'm ganna miss that;(.

Annette- Glad you had fun teaching your class. I've always wanted to try one. I hear you can burn anywhere from 200-400 calories in an hour!!

Jess- Hope have a god time w/ Grandma and Aunt Meg!! Tell them we're thinkin about them hear;-) we love ya!!

Wendy- How do you like Jari Loves RTTC? Do you like it? I'm thinking of getting abripperx. And no your not getting weaker, your probally just tired. I know when I'm tired I can only lift like half the weight I normally do}(

Laurie- Hope you have fun joggin w/ Ruth! Isn't it more fun joggin w/ someone else? It feels like time kinda flies by!

Judy- Hope you like GS Back, Biceps, and Shoulders. I love that w/o! They work all the muscles I love workin (except abs. Those are my fav!!) Hope you Physical Thereapy continues to go well. Please keep us posted on your progress:)

Carol- Do you have a HRM? Is that where you get you calorie burn and HR from? I'm dying to get one!! OOOOO girl your ganna die tonight w/ S&H legs}( }( :+ JK!!!

Good morning all! I would have posted alot earlier but I had to make an emergency visit to my dentist to replace a crown that broke and fell out x( Since it was only put in a couple of months ago I don't have to pay for a new one at least. Today will be upper body work with Slow and Heavy, haven't done this in a while. Also will get in a good long yoga session. Tomorrow will be a total rest day before my HM on Saturday. It's just as well cuz I'll be in Phoenix all day attending a critical care seminar with some nursing buddies.

Adri- Sounds like you had a promising start to your school year. It's good the weather finally let you get in some running.

Carole- I have an older Garmin that doesn't let you download your data. I never considered this before and was looking at my paper log when you mentioned this. It would make things easier....uh oh..
maybe it's time for a new toy :D Sounds like you have an awesome elliptical workout today!

Judy- Have fun with GS today. Do you think you could share some of the exercises you've been doing for your hip that have been the most helpful?

Cathy- Your glutes will be talking to you tomorrow if you try KM today I guarantee it! I hear you may be doing a race with Wendy?!

Colleen- Nice to hear from you and that you are keeping up with the running. Sounds like you have a well rounded and balanced rotation... that's eing one smart and injury free cheetah!

Laurie- Nice to see that your reconnected! Great job on your long run.... I always feel better and run faster in the cooler weather also. How nice that your good friend will be running the HM with you! Have a great 8k run today.

Jess- Have a great time visiting today with your Grandma and Aunt.
I'm sure they will treasure the time with you and how awesome that you make the time, kuddos to you!!!!!!

Elaine- thank you SO MUCH for your kind words yesterday! I honestly don't think I compare as a runner at all to you! I hope you and Jess will be able to deal well with the "taper madness" period.

Jess and Elaine- I don't know if you have access to the latest issue of Runner's World or not but they have a great article on common mistakes made in the last few weeks prior to a marathon. I found it to be very informative and helpful. You may want to check it out.

Susan- (singinggoddess) I wasn't able to post the last several days so I think I may have missed welcoming you. WELCOME!!!!! 58 minutes for 7 miles? The fastest I have accomplished this is 60 minutes...you are one swift cheetah!! I see racing medals in your future!!! BTW I love your user ID!!!!

Wendy- I think your new 5k race sounds awesome! I hope Cathy will be able to participate. The weather will be cooler too! How the job at the gym going?

Christine- I guess your busy with unpacking but in case you sign on today---Hi there! We all miss you and look forward to hearing about your adventures in NC... how's the humidity?

Time to get moving. Thank you to all you wonderful cheetahs for giving me the opportunity for my daily mental boost!!!

ShellyC

Hey Cheetahs! How are y’all today?

Cathy – Hope you fit in your run and upper body today! Good luck with the students!!!

Jess - Sounds like fun running with others! Although sounds like your pup was problems today… I know what you mean about running a bit sore. It’s a wonderful feeling when everything warms right up and you feel great!

Wendy – GOOD LUCK at work today!!! Sounds like that class is going to be a good one!

Laurie – I know the feeling – I’m up earlier with my girls in school, too! And I’m not a huge fan of making lunches. Fortunately for me it’s only one this year and that’s only a sandwich and a snack.

Judy – enjoy GS BSB – that’s one of my fav’s…

Carole – oh, now you’re making me want a Garmin. I’m jealous!! :p Glad to see you’re enjoying yours. Have fun on the elliptical!

Elaine – Enjoy watching 24! I’ll have to look into that – if you’re getting such entertainment out of it!!

Jennifer – I know the feeling – I’m always shocked by the sheer number of posts! Amazing! We’re a chatty bunch, aren’t we? Looks like an elliptical day for a lot of us!

Adri – I have a tendency to schedule cardio on icky days, too! Summers in California have no rain, but winters are a different story, so I’ll be running in icky weather soon!

Well, I ran 3 miles today – not on the beach, but on the road that goes down the center of the island (I get beach AND sound views – really nice – and as it’s after labor day, there’s very little traffic. Then we took the kids to the beach to wear them out – they were horrible yesterday – think three energetic kids ages 1, 3 and 4 stuck inside with adults trying to move boxes and things... Poor tykes! Now, it’s boxes again this afternoon. I ate poorly yesterday, so the run was really tough. I’ll be eating better today and doing a 5 miler tomorrow… I’m hoping we get a nice thunder storm this afternoon – we don’t get those too often in Cali, so I miss them. Enjoy everyone!!!

Hey Ladies:) I'm having a great day, started off with GS Back and Biceps and CoreMax segment 1, went to work, came home and just got back from my 8k with Ruth. We didn't set any speed records but we hashed out our problems du jour and came up with a viable plan for world peace;-) :+ :7 I'm back to work in a little over an hour.

Jess, sounds like a good, albeit disjointed, run:) Love your Jamie Lee pics!

Judy, you're so right about Cathe's exercises. She makes me look very good when I'm prescribing exercises to clients;-)

Carole, sheesh, now you got me wanting a new toy to. This running is way harder on the pocketbook than I thought it would be. Glad you're enjoying it!

Elaine, enjoy your run and elliptical time with 24. I've heard so many people rave about this show but I've never seen it.

Hi Jennifer!

Adri, the weather was gorgeous for running here too! If you're like my Girls it's worth going back to school to hang out with all of your friends (and to study hard too of course!!;-)

Shelly, sorry about your crown, what a pain!! Hope your seminar is productive and informative.

Christine, sounds like the kids earned a day at the beach, relief for the adults too I'm sure. Packing and moving is such hard work! I love it when I can incorporate running by the water, like active meiditation.

Better go!

Take Care
Laurie

Hey Ladies. Good afternoon!:)

So work went well today...thank goodness for that! LOL I don't go back until Tuesday now.

I did MIC hi/lo after I got home and Joey went down for his nap. That's it for me today. Tomorrow is weight work.

So my jogging stroller finally got delivered today! I'm very excited! Can't decide if I should give a go at putting it together later or just leave it up to DH. LOL }(

Laurie, How was your 8k with your friend? The pace run last night was SUPPOSED to be done on a track but couldn't be for some reason so they marked a 1/4 mile stretch on a pathway in a park for us.

Jess, Seems that you always have an adventure whenever you take your dog out to run with you! LOL

Judy, You've got alot to do for that hip! Hope it's helping!

Carole, Glad you enjoyed the Garmin! I love mine and now that I have the stroller I can make more use of it...atleast until it gets cold and I wimp out and cower back to the treadmill! LOL Work was much better today! My mgr was smiling at me when I walked in so I guess all is well. PHEW!

Elaine, So I gather you are watching an entire season of 24 on dvd while using your elliptical? I've never seen that show...not once! LOL

Jennifer, So how'd you make out with the elliptical today?

Adri, I know how you feel regarding cardio. It seems that when I even THINK about taking my run outdoors, the skies open up! x( LOL Glad your first day at school was a good one. I always dreaded it!

ShellyC, Cathy won't be joining me for the 5k as it's a bit too far for her to travel. We will be looking for one in the future that is more centrally located though. I still have to run it by my friend from my class when I run w/her at the park tomorrow! The job is getting better....no drama today! Thank goodness!:) Good luck on saturday girl!}(

Christine, Sorry you had a tough run today. Hopefully tomorrow is better. You are definately a Catheite...running despite the work out you are getting from moving boxes, etc! Most would use that as an excuse to NOT run! LOL You go girl!}(

Hey ladies…
First day of school under my belt and I am POOPED. Things went well, but it’s always a tiring day. Just ate a bagel and will give myself about an hour before I push myself either out the door or in front of the TV for KM. In the meantime, I’ll try to keep my eyes open! But no naps here - I still have to write a paper for one of my grad classes tonight, so I’m hoping a good sweat will give me a recharge.

Jess :: you really have me pumped to try KM…on the other hand, I am tempted to enjoy the sunshine & warm weather, which we haven’t had too much of lately. How was your day visiting your aunt and grandma?

Wendy :: you are not alone. The last time I did GS CT, I felt like I regressed! It sounds like you have found your racing pace rather than your training pace. But that’s also good to know. WOO-HOO! The stroller arrived. Aren't packages great?? This is a jogging stroller, right?

Laurie :: thanks…it was a good day…some of my classes were a little bolder and chattier than you’d normally have on day one. Might have to squash them hard and quickly. A bit early to tell for now. Hope you enjoyed your 8K with your friend. How’s Andy doing?

Judy :: I’m glad the PT is working well for you. I’ve only done PLB once, believe it or not. You make me want to dust that one off. I noticed my hip flexors were a bit tight during last Sunday’s yoga class. I don’t usually have trouble there, but it felt great to stretch that out.

Carole :: So, we have another fan of the Garmin. :) It really is a great tool. Sounds like you got a fully-loaded model. Nice! I regret getting only the 201, but I’m learning to live with it. :)

Elaine :: today is a day when I’ll really have to PUSH myself out the door. But I know I’ll feel better once I get going. Just gotta make sure I get going...

Jennifer :: hope you did well w/ your first day back on the elliptical.

Adri :: I HATE when that happens. It seems my computer only craps out when I am in the middle of the longest email ever. :) Hey, you lucked out being in classes with most of your friends. That’s cool. Yep, I hear you ~ I generally won’t have time now to visit the cheetahs until after school.

Shelly :: sorry about the broken crown. Good that you didn’t have to pay. Yeah, Wendy and I are definitely going to coordinate on a race this fall. I’m going to do one closer to home toward the end of September, but I’m sure we’ll find something that works for us both. Looking forward to meeting & running with a cheetah! More comments about KM – hmm, I’m growing increasingly intrigued!

Christine :: I love t-storms, too. How many more days of moving boxes do you think are in store?

Hi to Laura, Marcia, Barb, Pamela, Mattea, Thomsina, Gayle, Susan, Dina, Wendy Marie, Colleen, Katrina, Natalie, and everyone else who drops by. I feel like I'm forgetting someone - sorry!

I will report back on my workout later. Gotta keep honest.

Hey girls 4 miles for me this morning ran as intervals at the track. We are now in taper mode. It seems weird to be running such few miles. My running partner is a marathon vet and she knew what she was doing when we created our training schedule. Saturday brings 8 miles, but tomorrow I will be doing High Step Challenge. Next Saturday is our last weekend before our half and I think we will be running 6 miles. We peeked at 12 miles about a month ago so I hope I am ready. 18 days until our 1/2. I made this cool bulletin board that has a count down to my half and another sheet that lists my miles (so far) in 2006. The kids are amazed that I have ran 385 miles. I am too! After the 1/2 we are going to keep a 10K as our minimum Saturday baseline for our long runs. The weather will eventually keep us from running on Saturdays but until it does we will keep at it.

Hey ladies! We survived the day! It was actually a fabulous day for a little road-trip! Beautiful weather & we had a great drive over & back. Allison was seriously an angel the whole day. She kept Aunt Meg & Gigi (that's what the girls call her, short for Great-grandma) entertained for sure!! They were both so surprised when we showed up & said at least 10 times how glad that they were that we came. I just love them to pieces & it just tears me up to know that they won't always be around. (Aunt Meg's 93 & Gigi is 92) They're both excited about my marathon too, it's so cute to hear Grandma ask me how many more days left! (17 days!!) I think they might have been a little worn out by the time we left too!! ;-) Then we met my Mom for lunch & headed home. Got home w/ 20 min to spare before the girls got home from school & played outside for a bit. It was just a beautiful day!

Greg's gone tonight helping our youth pastor w/ his roof, he's had lots of experience roofing on the side so he will be home late probably. I made an easy dinner of waffles (whole wheat) & scrambled eggs so my kids were happy! :p

Anyway, thanks so much for asking about my sweet Aunt Meg & Grandma. They both seem to get a bit frailer & smaller each time I see them (Aunt Meg said she weighed in at a whopping 84 lbs!!). I'll definitely go visit again, Grandma said next time she wants to get out! :)

Have a great night!

Hugs,

I'm honestly just going for a finish for my first (and possibly ONLY!) marathon. My first goal is 4:30, 2nd goal is 4:20, and third goal is anything under 4:15. I'm not going for super speedy, just slow & steady. I really don't want to burn myself out by starting too fast & hitting the dreaded *wall* that I hear so much about. I ran my half a few weeks ago in 1:59:19, so I think 4:15 is do-able. It's the Quad Cities marathon on Sept. 24th. I'm not a Cheetah when it comes to longer distances! I'm actually looking forward to doing more speedwork when it's all over & done with!! ;-)

Hugs,

Cathy - we have a few days yet. I am the child of packrats. MAJOR packrats. My dad still has craft material from my mom. Yep - can just picture my dad, who is fairly old fashioned and very good with a tool belt (and can tell me what is wrong with my car when I imitate the sound of the problem) taking up scrap booking. Ain't gonna happen... :p

Wendy - It IS tempting to skip the workouts, but when my parents redesigned the house, they added an elevator, so I'm not getting quite the workout I could be. But it is awfully handy to be able to pile everything into the elevator and move it between floors. The kitchen is on the third floor, so unloading groceries today was a breeze.

Enjoy all!
