CHEETAHS...spring break monday!!!

lederr

Cathlete
woo-hoo! i am officically on spring break! that means, i should have plenty of time to catch up with my cheetah women! my spring break plan is basically working on my dissertation and relaxing. of course, i will be working out which i have been keeping up with even though i've been so busy (it keeps me sane).

so, i went to the animal rescue grounds for the rescue group (really just one woman) that i am working with yesterday. it was so much fun!!! i posted the pics ont he arrow thread if you are interested in checking them out.

i have no idea why i woke up SO early today! i will try to sleep a bit more. my workout today will be some cardio and weights. if it's nice, i might even attempt a run outside (but i am so loving my workout room).

anyway, i am going to try to be a good cheetah and check in AND do personals. must go catch up on the cheetah goings on..

Good morning, Lorie and everyone else! :)

I'm feeling like Monday got here too soon. Time to hook up the caffeine IV. :)

Lorie :: Now it's my turn to be jealous of your spring break! Hope you get a nice mix of productivity and relaxation. When does your dissertation have to be submitted?

Not sure what this afternoon's workout will be.

Hope everyone has a GREAT day!

okay, so i saw some talk about the disney marathon. i did it in 2000. i have to be totally honest and say that running through the parks is absolutely awesome BUT you run the service roads for about 2/3 of it. meaning, limited to no crowd support (because people aren't allowed back there) and a leetle boring. on the upside, it is completely flat and you are in disney world. we walked the park for ten hours the next day and had so much fun. the training isn't bad and the weather in orlando will be warm.

i also did the nashville mary and the san diego mary and actually enjoyed those way more. crowds the whole way and lots to look at. still, disney is disney and you get a great medal (a giant mickey mouse head!). i just think that everyone (including me before i ran it) pictures themselves running through the crowds and the parks. you do get to do that, but i didn't realize how limited that time is. JMHO.

there is a book (the name i can't remember) which has information on every marathon in the country (as well as outside the us) and gives a ton of information and rates them on difficulty.

i would be interested in whatever you guys decide. running around nashville was so beautiful. there is a knoxville marathon i am interested in but the elevation is higher than i'm used to. i might go get that book (mine is pretty old) and see if there are any good ones. i am still bitter about not being picked for the nike race!!!

WT-we were posting at the same time! i have this quarter (the next 10 weeks) to have my prospectus and IRB form written, sbmitted, and accepted. i BETTER get my prospectus done this week (basically chapters one and three of the diss)!!! please send your productivity vibes now that you don't need them for your NB protfolio.

Good morning ladies,

today is nwol4w week 2 stage 1. the workouts are a little shorter than last week as now I am doing 12 reps instead of 15. glad to be able to lift a little heavier!

lorie- yay!! enjoy your first day of spring break and working out in your awesome workout room!

cathy- let us know which workout you decided to do.

wendy- we were pg at the same time as my ds#2. he is 2.5. will be 3 in aug. we are in the potty training stage so i am there with you...;o) that running cruise sounds interesting!! i wonder how many here would be interested??!!

linda- as far as mixing kb's and traditional strength training. it really depends on the results your are looking. they are actually a wonderful combination.

christine- did you also get the workbook from anthony? let me know what you think of them. i might do that program after NWOLFW. you are so funny scheming the new workouts while dh is away. i love it!

ttyl....:)

Morning Cheetahs :) :)

3 days and I'm heading South :) Yes I'm counting. :)

I'll post my workout then go back and read saturday's and Sunday's threads. Yesterday was a perfect sunny, crisp day. We took advantage of the weather and did some things outside. I was so tempted to run. But decided to stick with the plan and not be foolish :)

I have 5mile tempo run on tap today. Better be NO cleaning lady and no weaving old man :) I will also do GIANT sets for biceps and the abs on the machines at the gym.

Cathy: I saw your post real quick this morning. Oprah show was about puppy mills. Very sad.

Ok need a refill and gonna catch up :)

Good morning lovely ladies!

Okay, I now have a chance to catch my breath and catch up with everyone. There has just been NO extra time these past four days. However, I *love* Mondays because it's my day off and I only have lunch plans with DSO so I've got the whole day to myself. Oh so much that I want to do, so little time!

I didn't get home early enough last night to get in a second workout but that's okay...I might try to squeeze that one in this evening *if* I get my "to do" list done today.

This morning is going to be a run, I just don't know how far yet. I'd like to make it a fairly long one but, at the same time, don't want to do too much too soon. I think I'll just run until I don't want to anymore...thinking 8-9 miles. *Maybe* this afternoon I'll do some easy full body weights like PH or PP...we'll have to see on that one. I really am trying to stay away from the weights right now.

Let me go grab a little more java and I'll BBIAB with personals.

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Lorie – Enjoy your spring break! Plenty of time to do what you want to do! Your friend rescues all sorts of animals – eh? You’re too cute, by the way. I’m not happy about the Nike one, either!

Cathy – I’m with you. Monday is here WAY too soon! Good job on Firepower! Hope grading goes fast!

Sunny – Sounds like you’re enjoying NROLW! I did indeed download the workbook from Anthony. I’ll let you know what I think. I also got the Enter the Kettlebell book. I’ve heard it’s not 100% necessary, but I wanted to read what Pavel thinks about kettlebells.

Kath – Have fun at the gym. Are you getting packed yet?

Wendi – Enjoy your run and your day to yourself! You deserve a fabulous day!!!!

Today is Enter the Kettlebell Day 1. It’s mostly a warm up and swings. I’m going to go as heavy as I can. We’ll see. I’m so not ready for today. Work is getting weird and they just move my team into a small office – three of us – how are we supposed to support out customers while sitting on time of each other and talking all over each other? Oh well, we’ll see what happens. Can someone wake me when it’s Friday? :p Have a great day all!

Good Morning Lady Cheetahs. :)

RE the marathon....I have decided that I am just not ready to commit to anything YET. I really think I need to get this 18 miler under my belt before committing to a full mary. Perhaps that's a bit chickenish (is that even a word!? LOL)and un-cheetah-like of me :p but I must admit that I am scared. The full marathon is a goal of mine for sure but I just need to feel a bit more secure in the fact that I can do that before I make a committment...especially one that involves long distance traveling to get there. If/when the time comes for me to do this it will most likley be a more local race in the spring or one of the races in the fall/winter of 09 that I posted about last night.

Cathy: If you and other Cheetahs decide to go for Disney 09 then I wish you all the luck in the world! I hate to have to bow out of this opportunity but even if the money part ends up being a non-issue, I'm simply not comfortable with it yet. I admire your gusto for making this decision and if it's something you really want to do then you need to GO FOR IT!:) If there are Cheetahs going who don't plan to run then if the $$ is NOT an issue I could try to fly down for moral support and some Disney fun with the Cheetahs!
LOL about the caffeine IV. I hope your day wasn't too hectic and make sure you enjoy your work out this afternoon!

Lorie: Thanks for sharing about the Disney Mary. It's good to know for FUTURE reference as I probably would have eventually thought about doing it. Enjoy your spring break!!!!

Sunny: I am trying to get DS to potty train but to be honest he really is not interested. He likes to wear his Elmo underwear but doesn't want to go to the bathroom on the potty. He'll sit there but he refuses to do anything! LOL Isn't that cruise the coolest!? If a bunch of us are interested and we plan ahead, perhaps we can make it happen! I think it's close to DH's yearly bowling trip so that could be a problem but I would certainly try!

Kath: Ooooh 3 more days! Have fun! I leave for FLA on Thursday myself. I'm excited as well.

Wendi: Enjoy your day off, your run and your lunch with SO!!!

Christine: Good luck with your new kettlebell work outs! You'll knock em dead, I just know it! Sorry about the cramped working space. Perhaps they will change it if you complain. :)

Good morning cheetahs

Lorie...Congrats on spring break, you deserve some time away from school! Funny as I never cared much for crowds during my marathons. I think looking back that San Jose had the best crowds but I didn't like the course much and ended up with stomach cramps the last 9 miles as I had drank some bad water. Big Sur and Tahoe were the most beautiful, but the hilliest marathons I ever ran..

Cathy...good job with Firepower after all that grading yesterday. I think I need to use the roller more often than I have been. Sorry Monday came so soon...:(

Sunny..sounds like you are enjoying the NROL rotation.

Kath...you lucky girl, your vacation is almost here!! Hope no one gets in your way running today!

Wendi...I love Mondays too as I am also off. Enjoy your run and weight workout.

Wendy...it felt nice getting the workout spare room cleaned up. I do hate it when I let things go like that! I know you might not want to venture to Cali for your first marathon but Napa is beautiful and that was my 1st. Not a very hilly course, and you run thru many wineries. http://www.napavalleymarathon.org/

Christine...sounds like you had a nice run with Jimmy yesterday. We had weird weather and even a few sprinkles in the afternoon. LOL about your book delivery while DH is away...:)...Thank re my bench, it is really nice and yes I can do those supine pull-ups on the blog. But I also have a weight machine attached to the wall that has a pull-up bar, which I used during P90X. I have not had to buy many blow dryers as I only dried the top of my hair before now!! I have some Laundrymax today to catch up on. So what is the heaviest KB weight that you have? Hope the work week goes fast for you.

Linda...thanks re my bench. It took me about 2 hours to put it all together, some of the instructions were confusing, but I didn't mnd really. I told DH I might have to call him in there to help, but I didn't have to so he told me later "I was waiting for you to call me?" Funny, they need an invitation to help...Good job with GS, Coremax and the run yesterday.

I am going to do a 3 week GS rotation so today will be GS Sho & tri's, abs, freestyle legs and an iClimb on my EXT. I will most likely split up this workout!

Have a great day...:)

sunny-i am anxious to hear about your results with NROL4W as tessatl and i are really wanting to start a rotation. the only thing that will be weird for me is doing my workouts from a book with *gasp* no DVD!!!

wt-i think the full experience of the disney marathon is amazing and everything disney does is first rate. it was my first mary and, at the time, i thought it was AMAZING! i had someone to run with me the whole time so the service roads weren't that bad because we just chatted. but...after running many halfs and other marathons, i noticed that most are on populated courses with lots of crowd support and i have to say that made a difference. that said, if you and wendy decide to do it, i would probably join you guys. i haven't run a marathon in quite a while, but the motivation of running with my fellow cheetahs would be enough for me. my base long run right now is about 12-14 miles, but i realize the marathon is a long time away. also, i ran it in 2000. they have added so much and more parks, so the route could be different. i'm going to check out the website.

kath-i have worked in animal rescue for the last 10 or more years. i have seen so much. the oprah show didn't even begin to show the true horrors (i don't think it would really be appropriate for her show the more gruesome stuff-it gives me nightmares). you can't imagine. i am just glad she finally opened her eyes as i KNOW that many big groups (ASPCA, HSUS, PETA) have been imploring her to STOP buying her dogs from breeders and do a show on the realities of breeding and puppy mills. she did a whole show on going to get her three golden puppies from a breeder a while back. petitions were sent to her and i don't believe she couldn't know about what goes on at those places. i don't know why she decided to do that show now, but i am glad she did because people listen to her (why, i don't know. she's not an expert on anything). sorry for the soapbox, but animals and animal welfare is my absolute passion.

wendi-i was thinking the same thing about a run today. just go until i don't want to anymore. i just have no idea what to do for a workout today.

christine-thanks for the compliments! actually, the lady who rescues all the animals is in her 60's. she feels it is her calling (not in a weird way-more an indian/spiritual/bless the earth and its' creatures kind of way). she lives on virtually nothing and her animals are her very first priority. she takes care of over 250 animals and does it all by donations. it's really amazing. she feeds them twice a day, takes care of all their needs...everything.

if anyone is interested, all the sanctuary pictures are posted here: http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh292/Lederr/

wendy-if you can do 18 you can do a marathon. i know 26.2 seems like a lot, but it's really not. i truly believe that a good portion of doing a marathon is mental. anyone can do a marathon if they think they can. you're not a chicken for not wanting to commit, but if it's because you don't think you can do it, you should reconsider. you CAN do it. i'm telling you, if you think you can, you can. gosh, i sound like coach sean, don't i???

so, still have no idea what my w/o will be. i guess i will go down to my gym and see what appeals to me. i took ysterday off (although i walked a TON at the sanctuary) and need to get in a good one.

Quick post.

I'm in a need of a shower and have to do some banking this morning.

I did my 5 miles. But today I felt like my feet were cement blocks. I did finish not as impressive as Saturday's run but I finished :) Got my biceps done and abs as well.

Lorie: Interesting that you mention it. She decided to do the show because someone made up a billboard near her office. Basically said OPRAH help me-- with a picture of an abused dog. Her dog Sophie died and she decided it was time to do a show on this. And she did mention how she would only buy from breeders. She said she is a changed person and will not buy from breeders again but from shelters etc. I am passionate about animals as well Lorie. I think I should become more active in it. I do drop off dog food to the shelter.. maybe I can do more. This morning as I'm pulling into the driveway to the gym--there was a dead dog. Just laying there-- I stopped, got out and checked. The dog had been dead for while perhaps maybe before we had a snow storm and with the melting snow his body was exposed. I entered the gym and a group of aerobic people were waiting for their class. One guy likes to poke fun --he was making a few comments. I get to the desk and I ask the girl working if anyone saw the dead dog at the end of the driveway. They all gave me a blank stare. Now I know people are busy--but he was hard to miss. I called my DH on the phone (he knows someone who works for the county) He said he would call him and have him come out. Later after my workout a new girl was at the desk and I'm signing out. She says "Kath did you see the dog?" I said "I sure did" She then looks at me and says "I cant believe no one else saw her." She told me it must have been sometime in the winter and perhaps a plow pushed it to the side. She did the same thing I did called someone to come get the body.

I know my next dog will be a rescue dog for sure. We currently have a retriever. It was a gift from our dog's father's owner. He isn't pure breed. And thats ok with us :)

Ok I best shower-- I'm geting cold :) I promise to be back with more personals.

Hey Cheetahs!:)

I'm back from the gym. I did ITread 21/30 mins intervals. Love that work out. Short but what an arse kicker! }( Later on it will be Mark Blanchard's Progressive Power Yoga vol.2. I am very curious to see how it differs from the first one. :)

Well, I'm gonna go change my clothes, grab something to munch on and make myself a cup o' java.

I'll be back in a few for personals. :)

Good morning cheetahs! I was up early and have done Amy's HLK already. I think I'll make this an All Amy day and later do ITR:)
Today we have a painter coming to do the outside of the house. I've been doing the inside. Need to knock off alot of errands this morning also. And lastly, I aim to get a good start at packing the garage..... My most dreaded part of the house to pack :(

Wendy- My goodness, alot of marathon chatter! ITA agree with Lorie that running a marathon is so very mental. It's really more of a mental challenge then a physical one. For your first it will help a great deal if you are with someone and I'm tellin ya... I'LL BE THERE!!!!! IMHO crowd support helps so much! At Las Vegas they had our names printed on the bibs and the crowd would frequently call out the names.... "Go Shelly" etc. That was awesome! Anyway, don't blame you for not wanting to commit at this time til your confidence level is up. Finishing the 18 miler will definitely help. RocknRoll marathons are great too.... lots of distraction!
That link to the marathons was great.... they even had Prescotts Whiskey Row race on there.... that one is WICKED!!!

Linda- I'm really getting comfortable now with Sharon's ASJ... great workout!! Her stability ball w/o at the end is very different and VERY challenging on the legs! I really like your plan on using the 15 mile distance run as prep for your marathon in Nov. I'm tentatively planning a marathon on Nov also... in Philly. My first East Coast marathon!!

Lorie- Spring Break for you!!!! wooohooooo :7 :7 :7 :7 Hope your time is productive and FUN.. Loved the pics! I'm so impressed with the work you do for animal shelters!!! My kids are all shelter babies also. I'm commited to running Wendy and Cathy's first mary with them and I am so thrilled you are considering joining!!!!!!!

Cathy- Get the intravenous caffeine going yet??? HOpe your work week has started off smoothly. I think I will do the Philly marathon and even if you and Wendy go for the Disney run in Jan I'll be there with you. It's only 7 weeks in between but what they hey... you guys are worth it! I lived in Fl twice (Ft Lauderdale and Gainesville) it'll be nice visiting again.

SunnyD- It sounds like NRWL is a little similar to Cathe's Mesocycles. Nice that you are getting into some "serious" weights now!

Kath- Getting into the serious countdown to vacay now!!! :7 :7
Did you mow down that cleaning woman and the weaving man???

Wendi- Hope you are getting in a nice satisfying long run!

Christine- great job on that trail yesterday! Your work situation sure does sound uncomfortable... especially if you have to continuously talk over each other! I hope this is only temporary for you. When I eventually get into all this kettleball stuff it sounds like EKB would be a good way to start.

Carole- Have you ever done any East Coast marathons? Would you like to train up for another one eventually do you think? Have a great time with your GS rotation!

I think that about catches me up.. Time to get movin here.

ShellyC

I'm back. It took me a little longer then expected but I made it!:p

Wendi: Hey girl, what happened to the personals this morning? :7 Did you atleast grab the java you wanted? :9

Carole: Thanks for the Napa Marathon link. It looks like a bee-yoo-tiful course!:)I looked at the site for a marathon in Alaska over the summer. OMG- GORGEOUS!!! I would LOVE to do that some day!!! It's so easy to let things pile up in a room you don't "live in". That happens in our spare bedroom upstairs all of the time. We have to clean it out every 6 months to a year so that we can see the floor again. ;) I think of it this way...atleast it's not happening where we spend every day. We'd have to climb over piles of junk and that would be BAD!:7 This is why you toss it in the spare room. If you don't see it, it doesn't exist, right? ;)

Lorie: Thanks hon! I really appreciate all of the words of wisdom regarding marathoning. :) If I successfully complete the 18 miler in October then I should definately have the confidence I need to make marathon plans! I really like the idea of the Rock n Roll marathon like the one in TX I posted about last night. I think if I were to travel that would be the kind of marathon that would be on the top of my list right now.

Shelly: Thanks to you as well hon!:) I really like the idea of the rock n roll marathon myself. If I am going to travel, that would be my first choice in the kind of marathon I would want to do. :) Disney sounds great but there is something about the R&R that I really like especially now that Lorie said the crowd support isn't that great at Disney. Well, I have lots of time to mull all of this over and decide what I'm going to do. I'm not going to allow myself to stress over it now though. I have an HM, an 18 mile race and NROL to think about and conquer first!!!!!}( :7 }(

I'm back for some personals :)

ShellyC: Are you remodeling your whole house?

Christine: I have been bad. No packing for me--yet :) I don't need much besides if I forget it I can buy???? Right??! :7

Wendy: have you started to pack? Wil you be bringing GH? :+

Carole: Enjoy your workout

I gotta load dish washer and maybe pull some shorts out :)

Hi Cheetahs!

I missed ya! :* Between DS5 being sick and no sleep and our new sport's schedule, I was completely wiped out by Friday. :( I'm happy to say I have my energy back. :) I have a lot of catching up to do here and my house. I'll post my workouts and then go back and then read the threads.

Sat: I did the EFX w/butt exercises from the new Oxygen Glutes issue. I did hip raises, walking lunges, sumo squats, and KB swings between cardio intervals on the elliptical.

Sun: Started HLKO, but couldn't concentrate so switched to ITR after combo #1. I went back and did HLKO abs. Later I did a mile w/u on the treadmill followed by P90X L&B.

Today, I started week 7 w/CS&T and then went to the stairs for an hour. It was beautiful out there. My friend cancelled because her DS was sick. I figured the regulars would be there. I still have ARX and some foam rolling to do. I can feel my hamstrings and glutes right about now. }(

Have to go check the soup on the stove and then I'll BRB for personals.

Just wanted to post a quick "Hello" since I have been gone for so long. Work has been very busy and of course, my knee is STILL injured. I figured by now I would at least be able to walk without limping since it has been over 3 weeks since I injured it. This is taking much longer than I had hoped. With all of the beautiful weather we are experiencing, I want to be out running, okay I will settle for walking, with all the other runners. I'm so frustrated.

WAVES to all my cheetah friends! Sorry I don't have time to post any personals today. Work is very busy. Hopefully tomorrow I will have more time to chat. Take care!

I started doing PPY#2 and within 15 minutes I shut it off. Just not in the mood for yoga right now. Perhaps I'll have a change of heart this evening. I'll see what happens.....

Well, I'll do the best I can. ;-) You gals are funny!

Cathy ~ Back to the grind, huh? Our kids went back last week and the sport's schedule changed. Everything is outdoor. Thank goodness the temps have improved. BUmmer about the Cathe block. I've heard this is happening more and more.

Sunny ~ IA I'm going to get this cert no matter how long it takes. It's slow moving. There's just not enough time. :( How's running going w/DS#1? And the NROL... rotation? One week done, right?

Christine ~ So the Chicago half is out? How many KBs do you have now? I liked your KB explanation to Linda Sunday? I'm so itching to really give the KBs a try. There's too many rotations I want to try. LOL! You've started the KB book rotation this week? HOw's that going?

Wendi ~ Great job on your run Sat! How come you're staying away from weights right now?

Wendy ~ Wow! Lots of marathon information! So, which do you think you'll do? I'm married into a crazy Greek family. ;-) Our b-day's are always large. It took me some getting used to. Nice race pix!

Carole ~ How are you liking your straight hair? I bet it looks great on you! What did dh say about the bench? }( So far I like ITR over HLKO. I've just been too exhausted to stick w/HLKO. Hopefully, this week will be a better week.

Jackie ~ How's the packing going?

Kath ~ WTG on 5 miles in 41:09! it won't be long until you'll be running on the beach! :)

Linda ~ Nice workouts! Still KB'ing?

Shelly ~ Have fun w/your Amy day! Sounds like you're the traveling mary runner!! :) I like the rope tying suggestion. Can you tie me to you too?!?!?:p

Lorie ~ Woo Hoo Spring Break! So, what's your SB plans?

Kristi ~ Have you been back to the doctor? I'm sure each day your knee is getting stronger? Are there any special rehab exercises that you're doing? How about anti-inflammatory meds?

Judy ~ Welcome back! We have some serious political BS going on right now? Not sure DH will be coaching DD's soccer anymore. There's a big meeting tonight. :( He's being criticized for playing all the girls almost equally....ummm....they are 10 years old for Pete's sake. UGH!! Not sure I like this travel business. x(

Hi to anyone I may have missed!

Got to go before the kids get home from school. I wish I had a magic wand to wave over each room like in Sleeping Beauty. ha ha :7 :+

ETA: To further my vent that I posted in Judy's ^^^^. Sorry Judy. DD and DH's team came in first 2 sessions in a row. :p I could see where they'd have a complaint if we came in dead last. I just don't get it. Can someone with older kids who played sports explain this to me?!?!?
