Cheetahs Monday 8/7/06

Hello Cheetahs!

Judy, so glad your dd made it home safe and sound. What a wonderful experience she must have had! I hope your hip feels better soon. :)

Jess, sounds like you had a great weekend. Glad your leg is feeling better.

Carole, glad your nephew had a better weekend. I know he has a long road ahead of him, but I hope the worst has passed. Just know you continue to have our prayers and support.

Laurie, a day at the beach sounds so good right now. I've been wanting to go since the beginning of Summer (actually, since late Spring), but something always comes up to halt the plans. Maybe I should just be spontaneous and go without a plan. :)

Mattea, are you all moved in now? Was your run today on a course in your new neighborhood? Sounds like it was a great run, and I hope you enjoyed your anniversary.

Hi Marcia, Wendy, Laura, Cathy, Christine, Elaine, Barb, Karen, Gayle, and everyone else!

Today was Imax 2 (1-5), and PUB. I'm trying to ease back into a routine since I've been so inconsistent this past month. I forgot how much I enjoy IMAX 2. I could've completed it, but I promised myself I'd stop while I felt energized and pumped rather than totally spent -- at least until I get back into a steady rhythm. :D

Have a great Monday everyone!
Pamela

Hi Barbara! I just did GS C & T also. My arms were shaky too!! That's such a good workout, but man my arms feel dead when I'm done!!! It's like a relief to be done! ;-)

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Hugs,
Jess

Jess & Wendy :: I did it! I did it! I ordered the 201. :)

Mattea :: I hear you...I'm just gonna listen to my body, and if I need a break in between, I'm goin' with that. I won't have that option next month when school starts, so I might as well enjoy it while I can.

Hi Pamela and anyone else I might have missed.

Oooh, good for you!! Let us know when you get it & how much you love it & can't imagine how you ever ran w/out it!! ;-)

Hugs,

<<Peeking in shyly>> Is this a check in for runners? If it is, may I join in? I started training today for a half marathon in January and I'm a little nervous. Well, I'm going to see how I feel about it in a couple months, but I told myself I would train for it just the same.

Katie

Hey Wendy, you are so right, such a sense of accomplishment, I love stepping and kickboxing and all of that but the scenery is way better when I'm out running:) I know that you've ordered a GPS thingey but in the meantime here's a link that has helped me map new routes for runs. Just find your location by filling in the fields at the left side column, click your start point and away you go. The undo button and all of that is on the right side. I love this site! HTH:)

http://www.mapmyrun.com/

Christine, sounds like a wonderful afternoon of Jazz. What is it about musicians that can make a Girl of any age's heart just melt!;) Glad you hand is feeling better, enjoy those pikes!}(

Mattea, sounds like you had a really good run! I have been using BodyGlide and it's been working for me but I'll be a little more generous with application. I'll be more mindful of my clothing, the piping on my very cute top was the culprit of chaffing on my upper/inner arm yesterday. My HRM hadn't been causing any chaffing below the sternum lately so I neglected to put it there, I regret that now,...learn, learn, learn..... :)

Cathy, congrats on your new purchase.....appparently Wendy's great at spending other people's money;-) :7

Pamela, nice workout, glad you're getting back into the rhythm:) I'm gonna be bossy with you now. Get to the beach Girl!!!! Gives us something wonderful to daydream about come next winter!!! :7

Take Care
Laurie:)

ETA: Hi Katie!!:) Come right on in, I'm training for a half in October and joined this check in about a month ago. I've learned so much from these amazing ladies!! No need to be shy!:D

Quick hello Cheetah runners--
Haven't been able to check in regularly, but I'm keeping up with my runs and reading the forum when I can. I ran 8 miles yesterday...felt good. Today I did HSTA & BC abs.

I've been having good luck doing a hamstring stretch with my leg elevated on the kitchen island (36-inch height). Really works well for me. I read it in a book...Also, I've changed to do my slideboarding on non-running days, instead of as a warm up before my run. My hip is under control and I'm happy about that.

In fear of aliens -- even before Christine posted-- I am keeping up with my abduction work...

Not enough times for complete personals, but:

Katie-- Welcome and good luck on your half in January. I know you can do it! I ran my first half in June and was on the fence about doing it for a long time and am so glad I stuck with the training plan and did it. Are you running the PF Chang 1/2 marathon (I noticed you're from AZ). Shelly C-- a mighty experienced runner is doing the marathon..

Jess--congrats on your bling. Glad your leg is better

Wendy-- good job on your increased mileage. WTG girl! So glad you got the shoes. So glad you got out the door and you pushed yourself beyond your known limit. That's awesome!

Carole -- your nephew is still in my prayers. I'm glad you got the elliptical. How fun to get a new piece of equipment. My ceilings are too low throughout my house, or I'd be saving for the elliptical. Back to last week sometime: my hip injury was treated as an ITB strain-- whether it was exactly that or not, who knows? All the extra stuff I do to stretch and strength train was going on the theory that it was a combo of ITB strain and possibly a strain in my obliques-low back. Whatever it was, all the stuff the PT folks told me to do has really worked to keep me injury-free. I go in tomorrow to get the next step on my orthotics done. I've had a trial pair for a few months, but they aren't set yet.

Mattea- congrats on the new house. Fantastic that in all the hub-bub you are keeping up with your workouts. I have been in somewhat of a mental slump since talking to my MIL a few weeks ago. This is really my weak spot: feeling insulted by her when she insults me....so I am trying to get my groove back. Silly really that I take it all so hard. But since she is coming to visit the weekend after Labor Day, the interaction feels like something viral that won't go way.....(Apologies to all of you lovely Cheetahs out there who have great relationships with your MIL's and may find this offensive!)

Judy-- glad your DD made it back home after a long journey. I am hoping your hip feels better soon and I think it's smart you backed off running, since it was feeling better and now it's not....

Barbara-- I've been reading the forum when I can and you are really making me want to be an I-something program!

Laurie--you've gotten good advice from Carole, Elaine and others about nutrition. I find that if I go longer than 7 miles, I need to use at least something like a sports drink. I can't tolerate Gatorade or equivalents and I use a "home brew" of OJ + water+salt...and it works well for me. I didn't use any gels for my half, but I did pay very close attention to nutrition and how much carbs my body seemed to need to fuel my runs. I definitely eat well, but not to much before a long run and pay closer attention to what I need to eat the night before a long run, so I am fueled up in the a.m. Good for you to experiment now well before the race. I did a lot of practicing with food, drinks, etc. and it helped both physically and mentally.

Hi to everyone else: Yadi, Elaine (October is around the corner), Gayle, Karen (in absentia, still thinking of you!) Shelly (coming back from weekend shifts. How's the Cycle?)
Laura, Christine, Thomasina, Pamela & Cathy & Karin.

I can't believe it will be fall soon!
Barb
:) :) :)

Hi girls. Have a few mins for personals now...then I have to finish cooking dinner before I head off to class...:)

Carole: I could be wrong about the heart rate part..I swear I read that but who knows w/me! I can be dizzy at times! :7 :p If there's no hrm, I'll live. It's the gps functions that I am really excited about!:)

Christine: If you ever came to my town you'd wonder why the heck channel 11 chose to come here of all places! LOL It's really a sad little place which is why we are moving. There ARE lots of races in NJ though if you want to come run one here some day!;)

Mattea: No one in this thread "inspires" anyone to do anything!:p LOL Thanks for the kudos, BTW. :)

Cathy: Woo hoo! Good for you! The 201 and 101 have all the same functions except that the 201 is compatible with a PC and the 101 is not. We'll have to compare stories once we get them and start using them!;) :+ :7 :p

Jess: ^5 on the enabling, girl! :7

Pamela: IMAX2 is a great way to get back into your routine! No messin' around!}(

Katie: I post with you on the daily check-in. Would love to have you join us! I'm running my first 5k in about a month!:)

Laurie: I've tried a site like that before and it was too darned complicated for me to make it work properly so I gave up! LOL I hope the garmin is no more complicated than my HRM!

Barb: LOL i ref to the aliens comment!:7 Thanks so much for your comments about my 4 miler! I was VERY happy! My next goal is 5 on the TM!}(

HOLY MOLY!!!! iClimb (set 9) for 40 min on my Nordic about killed me!!!! WOW...I averaged 144 for my HR...I have not ever done that on my Nordic before. My average running HR is about 147-155 unless I am doing speedwork, and I was dripping with sweat...thanks Barbara and Wendy...:)

Christine...I am not a good waiter either, but now that I have found iClimb and can use my Nordic to kick my butt I'll gladly wait...:)...Minnestrone soup sounds good! I am having a lentil rice loaf...yum...Legs & Glutes and GS BSb sounds like a great workout...

Mattea...yes I think I had vibes freom Sarah & Elaine....so I HAD to get one...Good run yesterday. Enjoy your full body mish mosh..

Barbara...I get shaky arms with most of the GS upper body workout!

Cathy...congrats on the Garmin!! Lots of enablers here...

Pamela...Imax2 is the funnest of the Imaxes I think, probably a good idea to cut it a bit short til you are back in sync..:)

Katie...WELCOME!...yes, here all runners are cheetahs...Way to go training for a half!!!

Barb...wow....ITB strains can be a pain, literally. I am glad the PT is helping. Orthotics should help too...I am quite excited about the Elliptical...hoping to get my DH on it too....but I don't think I'll have him do one of the iTrain workouts!...:)

Wendy...my sister didn't care about her Garmin not having the Heart Rate function either, she loves knowing the distance much better!! I had to be different and opted for a Timex HRM/GPS as I like to see both.

Well...sadly my nephew has had another setback. He now has 2 infections...my poor sister, as this has to be frustrating. Thanks for all of your prayers....

Welcome Katie!!! We'd love to have ya. What a great goal. Did you run much before your training?

Cathy-Ugh, don't mention the "sch" word! LOL!

Pamela-No we're all packed, but we don't actually move in until next weekend! Now there's a marathon to look forward to;-) No, the run was just a new route in the neighborhood (very rural area) where I grew up. I never used to run much when I lived at home, and although I've become pretty familiar with the runs in two directions I ventured on third yesterday:7
How cool and smart that you're easing back into things. So proud of you and inspired to take it as it comes. I love Imax 2!

Laurie-Ahhh, the pain of fashion, LOL! I learned very early on that plain running tunics and long shorts that stay put are pretty much it for me:D Bet you won't forget the BodyGlide again...

Barb!!-Hi lady cheetah! Great to hear from you. Are you sure you aren't keeping up with your "adduction" work;-) You can't listen to her! Her opinion is meaningless! You are an amazing mother! A fantastic wife! A super friend! An awesome woman! A superlative athlete! One fun cheetah! An excellent daughter-in-law even! Think about the kind of person she is, you actually probably wouldn't want her to like you and approve of you, right? (I can keep going if you need it, I'm working on a doctorate in English}( ) She's going to be a part of your life so long as you have your husband and children, but it's so worth it isn't it?:7 And eventually she, uhhh, won't be around! So look forward to that:p I second Barb's preemptive apology to those who have great MIL's. And whose palm did you grease to get one? LOL!

Wendy-Are you kidding me, now I want a Garmin!! Problem is DH never says no to me, so I can only stop myself (like that's gonna happen!) Good luck at class tonight!

Mattea

jess are you talking about all of the windsor pilates workouts? ab sculpt and the big ball workout? I really need help with the lower abs. I did see the pilates ball workout. are they doing anewer ball workout with the winsor? I think that would be neat to meet jamie lee curtis. alot of celebrities supposable use windsor. I find her to be too slow throught the video though. I guess I am hyper and want to go from one thing to another. thanks for the info.

Mattea- thanks again for all the support. Congrats on getting, or being on the road, toward the end of the road to getting the PhD in English. I need to move back into my groove. If I could run 13 miles, I should be able to deal with the MIL? Or maybe I should have done a marathon? Maybe that's next. We shall see....

Have a great night mighty runners!
-Barb
:) :) :)

Carole isn't the iclimb fun and motivating. I just love Keith. I did the iclimb #9 yesterday and was drench when I was done. Im glad you had fun:) Can I ask you what is the difference is in the Nordic that you have with the elipitcal? Also I am so sorry to hear about the setback on your nephew. Hopefully now it will be a 2 step foward. I am praying for him that it will be.

Katie welcome to the Cheetahs. I am also a newbie to this check in. Everyone is just wonderful here.

Wendy now I want a garmin. I've been wanting one for a few months now. I think I would want the one with a HR montitor since I've been wanting a HR monitor for a while also.

And just wanted to wave to Barb, and Mattea and all the other cheetahs that I miss.

Wow, thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I have actually yet to run in a race, but am doing a 5K in October. I have been building up my running endurance for awhile. So far my longest distance is 6.5 miles, so I still have a ways to go. But I'm hoping that 5 months is ample time. And we'll see how the 5K goes.

Barb - Yes, it is the P.F. Changs Rock N' Roll 1/2 Marathon. It sounds like so much fun. Are you from AZ?

Looking forward to checking in with all of you. I know I will benefit from all your experience.

Katie

Wow Katie, I had no idea you had progressed that far with your running! Great job girl! That 5k should be a piece of cake for you! ^5's!!!:)

After I run the 5k over Labor Day weekend, if I like it and don't make a fool of myself I am going to go for a 5 miler next, then a 10k, etc. I'm too chicken to "go for the gusto" all at once! I would prefer to work my way up slow but steadily. ;) I admire you gals who have the nerve to "cut out the middle man" so to speak!:)

Hey everyone!

Mattea - I'm sooo sorry that I didn't see you post at the same time! How are you girl?

Katie - Welcome!!! We'd love to have you join us! Shelly, one of our members is doing the PF Changs Rock N Roll Marathon in Phoenix! You should hook up with her! I'm doing the Rock N Roll Half in San Jose in October.

Carole - Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear about John. Is there anything I can do for your sister? Should we take up a collection for a few hours away at a local day spa? I know of several. Or I'd be happy to treat her to lunch as well. I know John is the one we need to focus on, but your sister must be a mess as well. My prayers continue. Glad you enjoyed iClimb! Might have to try that one! I feel good after the L&G, KPC abs and GS BSB. I'm thinking I'm going to be nice and ready for my long run tomorrow. And the Minestrone - it's Vegan. Nothing but veggies and veggie broth. So, maybe I'll make it for you one day. That lentil loaf sounds wonderful! I love lentils.

Wendy - well, I've been to some little "nowhere" towns on the east coast - they all have SOMETHING to recommend them. But, I don't blame you for moving!

Hope y'all have a nice relaxing evening!
