Good Monday morning, cheetahs!
Catching up from y'day...
Christine :: Sorry about the Trojan. Those are a nightmare, but at least it wasn’t your only PC. Glad you enjoyed the Cardio Coach. Nope, no snow day here – we just had the flurries.
Carole :: Congrats on the weight loss!!…hmm, Clam Beach next year…it’s always in January?…And it’s a hilly one?…I would definitely consider coming out to Calif. to run a race w/ the cheetahs! That would be fun.
Laura :: Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling down…a couple of things…I would start w/ re-examining your diet…are you keeping close track of calories and portions?…Even though you’ve cut out junk, you might still be taking in too many calories…OR, you might not be eating enough with all that working out you’re doing. One thing to try, if you haven’t, is the zig-zagging calories. Also, I do think it’s normal to see some decrease in endurance when you cut back your running, which you’ve had to do. Since you know your body responds well to running, I would try to work in at least one more day to whatever you’re currently able to do. If possible, try to make 1-2 workouts a week intervals. I know how much you love to teach, but maybe it would make sense to let go of the morning BC class, which doesn’t have quite as many regular members, and that would free up one day for you. My body responds best to running, too, but b/c of the weather and my loathing of the TM, I have cross-trained more w/ k’boxing lately, and I have to say, I am seeing good results in the legs. I guess the bottom line (bad pun, sorry) is that everyone is different and your body does change with time, unfortunately, so you really do have to experiment and try different things to get the results you want. This month, I’m going to try doing legs 2x a week as I recall Susan mentioned getting good results with that. One last thing…this is probably unlikely, but is it possible you could be overtraining? You mentioned feeling too tired to run sometimes…here are some of the other symptoms:
Common warning signs of overtraining include:
· Washed-out feeling, tired, drained, lack of energy
· Mild leg soreness, general achiness
· Pain in muscles & joints
· Sudden drop in performance
· Insomnia
· Headaches
· Decreased immunity (increased # of colds,& and sore throats)
· decrease in training capacity / intensity
· moodiness and irritability
· depression
· loss of enthusiasm for the sport
· decreased appetite
· increased incidence of injuries.
· A compulsive need to exercise
Judy :: I picked up Eat to Live…Thanks for the recommendation…What I was reading made sense, but I know it’s too hardcore for me to adopt all the way…I don’t know that 100% clean eating or a vegetarian approach is possible for me, but I *can* make some changes to improve things and move in that direction. Again, a good read…thanks for sharing it!
Colleen :: not sure if you've been checking in regularly, but thanks for the check!…I just need to know the town you’re in for mailing purposes…couldn’t quite make it out in your return address—thanks!
OK, I am scheduled to do RTTC tonight – one I haven’t done in ages. Hope you all have a great Monday & strong w/outs! Will stop in later to catch up.
