::: CHEETAHS ::: Happy Friday, 1/26

seeking_guns

Cathlete
Good morning & happy Friday, cheetahs :)

A lot of posts from yesterday to catch up with...

Wendy ::: WTG on the loss of inches!! AND on getting your PT materials! Oh, a 235-question exam plus essays? Don’t sweat it! ;) You do have your work cut out for you, but seriously, you’re gonna ace it! You’ll have all your materials in front of you when you take it, so it won’t be that bad.

Laurie ::: great job upping your weights on the lat pullovers ~ that’s heavy!! Gotta love those perks of being a spa employee. Nice!

Barb ::: ut oh ~ hope you’re feeling better today! YW…the check went in the mail yesterday, and I rec’d yours (and a bunch of others) yesterday afternoon.

Marcia ::: congrats to you on losing weight AFTER a vaca!! Rock on!

Laura ::: I think if my hubby were constantly reading over my shoulder, I’d have to give him a good punch in the pants and tell him to get a hobby! ;-) *lol* (Can you see why I’m not married?) My old boss (before teaching) used to do that sometimes and it drove me nuts! I’m with you on the early morning summer runs.

Karen ::: how do the calves feel today? PLB does work ‘em good, doesn’t it?

Kristi ::: I’m a fan of the balancing squats, too.

Christine ::: working Saturday AND Sunday? Yikes! How’s the hammy/groin today? *lol* about the hot mama sitting on ice.

Sunny ::: I like the gloves…I felt they gave me a more intense workout yesterday (I did a Kathy Smith k’boxing, so I expect with KPC or KM, they’re gonna make it much harder!) I’m wondering, though, if I should’ve ordered the 2 lb. gloves instead of the 1 lbs. I don’t think you’ll ever have to worry about complaints! You are drawing in clients left & right.

Carole ::: yeah, I was cracking up while on the TM, but since I was just walking, there was no chance of hurting myself. :) It was the episode where George sleeps under his desk at work. I do have the HR alarm off now, but I was thinking it might be good to have it on for the first few workouts, so I know when I’m in my zone. However, I didn’t personalize the OwnZone thing, so I guess it is just going by generally age guidelines.

Susan ::: hope the back flareup is correcting itself…be careful! :) I’m glad you & Miss Muffin are doing better, too. :) One of my eating problems now that I often work out in the early evening hours is that I get pretty hungry after the workout. I don’t usually pig out on unhealthy things, but it still keeps my calorie count on the high end. I have not been able to zig—its been all zag for me for two weeks now!

Judy ::: I’ve only used the elliptical once at the gym, and I could barely move when it was on the highest incline setting!! You are one fierce cheetah!

Hi to Colleen & Jess!

I don’t know if I’ll be able to squeeze in a workout today. I am chaperoning a dance at school tonight, and it’s not really worth it for me to drive all the way home and then back again, so I’m going to stay at school and work. If I finish early, I may just walk some laps around the building since I don't really want to get all sweaty and then work the dance.

Have a great day, everyone!
Cathy :)

Hi everyone TGIF:

I have DOMS from my step class last night! Holy Cow! We did upper body and some killer abs, too, so I'm sure they are feeling the pain, too. }(

Wendy: Where did you order your materials from and how much were they?

Cathy: Have fun chaperoning the dance, hopefully it goes smooth
;-) . I know that we have problems at our dances once in a while, so my fingers are crossed for you.

I had quite a day yesterday: First, I get to work and the drama is huge for absolutely no reason, I was just amused that people get so worked up about things that can be changed and just mad, back stabbing, etc. I had more daggers in my back before 9am than ever before. Second, I get a call my DH that we need to go and 'reclaim' our other bar and grill business that we sold on a contract for deed about year ago (long story), so I left work (oh, darn and missed more drama) to go with DH. I stopped to get gas and ran into an old friend of mine that was my absolute best friend and haven't seen her in probably 10 years. So, we stood in the gas line for about 15 minutes cramming in years of what each other missed. We did our business and both DH and I came home and worked out. I did the elliptical for 30 minutes, which helped but that made my class harder because I was a little pooped.

Thank goodness for my class, got rid of lots of penned up feelings. Too bad for them }( They did comment that I must've had some kind of day because they were hurting.

OK - now for today, WOW, I guess I'm pretty winded, huh?? We are going out for supper with BIL and his new girlfriend. He's paying to thank us for letting him sleep on our couch when he left his wife (that's ANOTHER whole story :-( ) I'm hoping to get in some weight work between work and going out to eat. Not sure what yet because I don't know how much time I will have.

Anyway, that's my whirlwind day yesterday. I hope everyone has a great day.

Take care, Marcia.

Good CCCCCOOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDD Morning Everyone!:)

Okay, the temperature PLUMMETTED around here last night! HOLY COW! It's in the single digits. We turned up the heat several degrees beyond where we usually keep it to try to keep it comfortable as the temps dropped b/c we have a drafty living room. HAH! Over night the living room dropped from 70 to 64 and the heat was set on 74!!!! We go through this every winter. It's just the nature of the beast even though we put plastic on the drafty window and put a towel at the bottom of the front door to cut the draft a bit. ACK!

So I actually did YOGA X in full in one shot last night! I can't believe I made it through! And ya know what? It wasn't that bad!

 I can't believe I just said that! LOLOL

So today is Legs and Back and ARX. I may also be going to the gym with my running friend for a last minute motivational run for her. We haven't been able to GTG to run for some time now and she's lost her motivation. She emailed with "SOS" last night. LOL She says I motivate her when we run together so wanted to know if we could possibly run today. We'll see what happens. If I do this I will cut tmrw's run short or not do it and choose a less intense form of cardio...maybe KenpoX would be a good idea!

Man I'm chatty today! LOL

Cathy, You were not supposed to AGREE with me that I have my work cut out for me! You were supposed to say "Hey, it'll be no problem!" LOL ;) Have fun chaperoning that dance tonight! :p

Marcia, Sorry you got stuck in the middle of so much drama. I hate that cr@p myself. Sounds like you worked off your frustrations good in your class though! LOL
The org that I am certifying is AFPA (American Fitness Professionals and Associates). It's the regular Personal Trainer Cert (they have an Advanced one too)and it costs $335.00 and that includes a second chance to pass the test if you don't make it on the first shot. Are you thinking of certifying for something? They have group fitness and it's the same cost I believe. This is a nationally recognized organization. My SIL is cert'd by them and the gym I work for hires people with this cert. That is why I chose it. I also liked the fact that the entire exam is/can be done at home. You don't have to go anywhere for anything. Just the post office to mail it back when you are done!:)

All right...I'm outta here before I actually write a novel!:p

It's nice to see I'm not the only one long winded today, Wendy. :* :7

Thanks for the info, and yes, after reading your posts about it, I'm very intrigued just not sure about the cost right now. But, there nothing that says I can't save for it, right?

Have a great day, I'll be back later. Believe it or not I think I'll probably have more to say then, too. :7 :7

I think I'm feeling the effects of a FRIDAY......or the cups of strong coffee I've already had this morning. OK, I'm outta here.....

Marcia.

Hello Cheetahs-
Wendy is right. It is mighty cold! Kids were hoping for no school, but in NYS it is Regents mid terms exams so school will be in session.

Wendy- how are you liking the reading material? I think it is helpful to run with a friend periodically. I hope you hook up with your buddy.

Marcia- I am sorry about your day yesterday. Today will be better!

Cathy- A dance to chaperone? I hope it goes well.

I just read the animal post and am still wiping tears from my eyes. And my little Crosby is sitting across my hands here purring very loudly.

Well with the temp and the wind chills being below zero, I will be doing a TM run and a good stretch. Later after some cleaning and laundry I have a highlight and hair cut.

Carole- (OT here) I am going back to acrylic nails ( nest fill) with the nail person who does not use a drill; the reason I left her is she is a long drive from our new home. I have decided she is worth it.
Gels are too fragile for me since I do a lot of cooking cleanning and laundry.

OK, time to get DS to bus stop. No way am I letting him freeze waiting for the bus.

Hi Marcia.

I am actually paying for the cert. with some of the $ I've earned since I've been working the daycare job at the gym. My paychecks are minute so we have just been banking the $. I figure investing that cash in my future is about the best thing I could do with it!:) $335 is actually a small price to pay when you consider the earning potential of trainers. I always worked desk/office jobs and ended up hating each and everyone one of them. I have been saying for years that I wanted to get away from that but could never figure out what else I could do. Well, as my love of exercise and fitness grew I finally realized what I should do! I was going to order the cert materials even if I didn't have the cash stowed away from my job and DH was going to have no choice but to agree! LOL :p

good morning,

I didnt workout yesterday, I was feeling lazy. I will probably run on the treadill today and maybe arms and shoulders from P90x. I am suppose to run outside tomorrow with my friend and it is going to be cold. so i figured I would stay inside today.

for those of you who have experienced adding muscle to your body. at first did you seem puffy but could tell underneath that it was harder? hope this isnt a weird question. and if so how long did it take for the puffiness to go away. I think some of my wt gain is muscle because of how my body is feeling but in my stomach esp;ecially I am having puffiness but it feels hard though. I dont know if this makes sense but it is irritating me. any thoughts?

susan-my husband does that occasionaly because he doesnt know what I would have to talk about on the internet I guess.

gotta go get the kids up for school, talk with everyone later!

Laura: I believe the puffiness you are referring to could be bloat from water weight. It is said that when your body can retain more water than usual while doing intense weight training. It should eventually work itself out though. HTH. :)

Good Morning Judy. I imagine it's even COLDER up where you are! BRRRRRR! So far I am enjoying the read of the PT manual. Ofcourse, I've only read the first 30 pages...only 520 more to go! LOL ;)

Good morning ladies! This will need to be a quick post before I officially start working. Today is a planned rest day for me. I plan to do some grocery shopping during my lunch hour instead. DH's work started their own version of the Biggest Loser so he is finally motivated to lose about 60 pounds. The winner of the contest will get around $100. Also, if the winner keeps the weight off for 1 year then they will get two full paid round trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. Anyway I have a big grocery list this week due to him actually going to make his breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. I'm just glad he is finally ready to do this.

Regarding the challenge, my goal is to lose 15 pounds hopefully before April 1st. Did we want to do a check-in for that or just state each week how we did?

Good Morning Cheetahs! TGIF! I need to sleep! LOL

I’m tired today. And my lovely little groin pull is still with me. I have Legs and Back and abs on my agenda for today – we’ll see. I’ll definitely do back and abs, and I’ll do what I can with legs. I do not want to aggravate this in anyway. Still busy at work, but fortunately, I do not have to work this morning! I’m going back over yesterday’s posts as so much happened!

Cathy – So glad to hear you’re feeling better! Wanted to verify that it’s $40 for both of my shirts. I’ll finally get that paypal to you today! I’m so behind on everything! How’s the snow? No – working OUT Sat and Sun – I refuse to work on the weekends – at least too much! LOL…

Wendy – I just think it’s wonderful that you’re going to be a personal trainer! You’re going to be wonderful! About iTri – I love it – although 12 is tough – the earlier one is more fun (tough, too, but more fun). I don’t have issues with finding machines, but I do tend to go at off hours. My gym is pretty big so it has a lot of machines. And the variety is fun. Just when you get bored with one, you move on…. As for the PT material – yeah, there’s a lot of material – but you’ll get through it. Take it one day at a time. When AmyG took the test, she said she knew a lot simply from the Cathe workouts. Great job on doing ALL of Yoga X in one shot!

Laurie – great job with upping your weights on PUB! I love your mish moshes. I’ve done 10-10-10 and Power Circuits – it’s a blast – what did you end up doing yesterday?

Barb – hope you’re feeling better today!!

Maria – GREAT JOB on the 4 pounds!!! It’s wonderful that you’re so motivated! *Does Happy Dance around the room with Marcia*

Laura – Sounds like your class will really benefit from your focus on your problem areas!

Karen – HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DD!!!

Kristi – Good job on your calorie counting! But a MONTH at a time? Everyone laughs at more for planning a full week of meals! I bow before you!

Jess – I’m with you – I do better when I’m busy. I don’t like not being busy.

Sunny – unfortunately I never got around to the iTread BootCamp because I listened to it and realized I’d look kind of odd running for 5 minutes then hopping off the treadmill and doing jump squats, and imaginary jump rope. I don’t have a lot of dignity left – I have kids – but I’d like to reserve what I have. LOL.

Carole – Yeah, Sundays without Football is going to be an interesting thing. I might actually get things done! Amazing!

SUSAN – Oh man, I’m so bummed! I just got word that my company is having their quarterly meeting on the 2nd and of course it’s from 11-1AM, so I won’t be able to make it for lunch – can you push your time back a week?!? I SOOOO want to meet you! But, I have to go to the company meeting – there are so many changes going on! I am really glad you can do yoga again! I know how much you missed it.

Judy – Enjoy your run today!

Shelly - how's it going for you?! Haven't seen you post for a few days! Are you doing okay?

Elaine - we're all thinking of you sweetie! Pop in and say hi when you get a moment!

Well - I'm off to get more tea! I'm so bummed about my groin. I was going to take a Kick Box class today with my coworker. We'll have to see. Maybe if I take it easy... Nice being able to chat with everyone again!

OMG Wendy, your post to me sounds just like my thoughts right now. I am an 'administrative assistant' and always been one. I can completely relate to your sentence on everyone driving you nuts and oh the drama.......I am also wanting to change, but can't seem to find what I want to do either, that's why the certification is very intriguing. ;-)

Marcia.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...glad the weighted gloves are working out well. Glad to hear you were walking thru Seinfeld. That was a funny episode, George is just too bizarre....I love when he got caught taking the eclair out of the trash to eat by Susan's parents...:)...So is your HRM working good for you? I think I have one with the own zone thing, I have never really tracked my calories burned but I might now just to see how many I burn in a week...:)

Marcia....don't you just hate those drama days. What a waste of energy..they should be working out instead! Sounds like you had a tough class last night!

Wendy...sounds like alot of info in the PT stuff you got! There is one band between the green and silver...it is purple..Thanks, I know I will feel alot better when I get this weight off...We just use a woodstove for heat, and it has dropped to about 59 this last week indoors. I feel lots more comfy about 73 or so. I have had a fire so hot it has been about 78 indoors...not sure my DH likes that though...good job motivating your friend, I hope you can get in a run with her.

Laura...not sure I have felt puffy at first when getting results from lifting, but for me when I first loose weight , I eventually seem to notice I have lost a layer of fat (or something) and I can then see my muscles better...

Sunny...I enjoy reading your PT stories, sounds like you are loving it and things are going well. I doubt you will have any complaints....but sometimes working with the public can be trying...:)

Christine..Sorry about the groin still being sore. You might want to skip legs today. I plan on getting some yardwork done this sunday.

Susan...I agree, PUB biceps is always OUCH! Does your back hurt in certain poses when doing yoga? Hey, B&G is fun!!! The only recovery this week was going from heavy upper body weights to lighter endurance upper body weights! I hope you get the Elliptical today...:)

Judy...my Elliptical has yet to make me sore. Yesterday though it really got my HR up there. Yes today I will run...I think we have a warming trend as it is 29 today!!...:)...good workout yesterday. Gel doesn't work for everyone, but if you can get someone to do acrylic without a drill I would agree that is better. OMG...I read that animal post last night and it stopped me dead in my tracks...I could not hold back the tears...enjoy your TM run.

Kristi...I have 10 to loose and I hope to loose it by April 1st!

Barb...sorry you are feeling yukky. The silver band was for sure a leg fryer, I liked it!! The Elliptical workout was tough...the machine tells you the speed you should be going thru all the resistance setting and I was always just a bit behind. One day I hope to catch up...:)

Karen...that is great about the tempo run going so well. Yes increasing your mileage too fast can cause a few injuries. Doing it slow like you are is the BEST way.

Laurie...nice perks for your hair. I am lucky there too as I trade with my hairdresser. I do her nails and she does my hair...:)

Jess...good workout yesterday. I hope you have a great visit with your Dad.

Today will be BM1 upper body, abs and a 4-5 mile run.

Have a great day...:)

Marcia :: sounds like a toxic place to work! Way to let out your frustrations in a positive outlet. I work in a district now where are there are NO behavior problems, so the dance should be fun. No worries here. :)

Wendy ::: I know what you mean about the cold! It’s brutal. My wing of the building is not getting any heat!! Hey!! I *DID* say don’t sweat it – you’ll ace it! Didn’t you see that part?? Come on, you know I’m supportin’ ya! ;) :)

Judy ::: yes, I’m actually getting PAID to do it – $75 or so. Not a bad gig! Enjoy your tm run & getting your hair done today. That's always a treat.

Laura ::: I have not really experienced a puffiness exactly, but I can tell when I’m building muscle because I get more cut. Even in places where there is still some fat, I can see the muscle taking shape and getting firmer.

Kristi ::: sounds like a great contest DH is in! What a great reward that would be if he wins! Personally, I don’t think a separate check-in is necessary since we post our workouts & progress here, anyway.

Christine ::: sorry about the groin pull…yeowch! Yes, it is $40 total. The snow was a bust – we had just a dusting.

OK, I never usually post from work and feel guilty doing so, so I really gotta jet! Talk to you all later!

Hi Cheetahs—
I am feeling better. Was able to do something resembling a Tempo Run on the TM this morning for 4 miles. Abs a coming later in the day, then a busy weekend with both kids at a swim meet.

I’m after my DH with a silly putty mallet – as he didn’t tell me he had to work tomorrow a.m. (as do I), so no parent available for younger DS’s swim events. So now I’m scrambling to rearrange my work schedule. Honest error on his part, but after I’m done with the mallet, I’ll be at peace again.

Cathy—it is definitely hard to figure out the zig part of calories with exercise late in the day. Glad you are enjoying the weighted gloves. I have used them a time or two with LIC and found it helps with some of the core moves.

Wendy—thanks for the get well hugs. A May 15 as a deadline is doable. You have over 3 months and you will do a great job. Breaking it into parts is the way to go. When feeling doubt, head thee straight to Office Max, Target or Staples. Colored notebooks, highlighters, labels + more = Fun studying times. You are Super Yoga Lady!! I’ve never done that tape the whole way through.

Marcia—your work life sounds like quite the interpersonal circus. It ‘s like a mental strength workout to not let the crazy germs rub off on you. Great job on the weight loss and getting an extra workout in with your DH.

Judy—I’m thinking of ordering Candace’s workout. Thanks for the info. They workouts look good. Let me know what you think of that special event one, and maybe I’ll get that, too. It’s chilly cold here, too. Enjoy the haircut & highlights!

Laura—sounds like good advice from Wendy re: puffiness.

more personals to come...
Barb
:) :)

Kristi—congats to your DH for taking the weight loss plunge. You’re a nice wife to support him.

Christine—sorry about the groin pull. OUCH! I hope it feels better soon. I had an adductor pull awhile back and after it settled down, I found the low squats and froggy stretches on Stretch X made it feel loose – but it’s easy to overstretch and get a pull…Enjoy Legs & Back. Thanks for the get well wishes.
Karen-From yesterday: thanks for the sympathy re: winter sickness. Glad your Tempo Run went smoothly and you are building up mileage in a safe way.

Carole – glad you enjoyed the Silver band. I am now inspired to work on that. I use a purple band, but I have some colors in between purple & silver from PT – blue, not sure if it’s harder or easier than purple and charcoal gray, harder than purple, easier than silver. They are dynaband brand. Great job challenging yourself on the elliptical, too. Sounds like you pick the right model!

Susan—I like the pizza presses, too for the back. The ball work, especially those glute raises, puts more pressure on the back than using a step. Have you done the bonus glute squeezes—those seem to work some muscles similar to ones worked in pizza presses but bring in more of the sides of the glutes.

Also, about kids & healthy food: when my kids were younger, we made homemade tortilla chips out of whole wheat tortillas. You can run kids scissors through the dishwasher, then have them cut the tortillas into whatever shapes, put on baking sheet, spray lightly with PAM and add the lovely Krazy jane Salt or something like that and bake at a high temp, like 400 or 425. You can even put parmesan on top, too. Really tasty. My kids forgot it was a WW tortilla….I still make these now, but they aren’t so interested in the cutting project. But when younger, cutting them into fun shapes was really run for them.

Gotta go to the grocery store--my kids' piano teacher fell, hurt her leg and I offered to pick some stuff up for her. Need to do this early in the day and stay on track.

hugs to all the Cheetahs coming by later!
-Barb
:) :)

Stopping by quickly before I head for the showers. Did manage Legs and Back. There were a few exercises that I did not go too deep on one side (I’ll have a lopsided butt LOL) but I still got a good workout. I think I will skip the cardio at the gym, though. Controlled movements is one thing – doing cardio is another. I’ll give it a rest the rest of the day.

Cathy – I pay-palled you – so you should have the $$.

Carole – I plan on taking the kickbox class at my gym followed by the yoga class that I love. Long Sunday workouts here I come! I did miss those. Have fun with your BM1 upper body!

Barb – you’re so sweet to do that for your boys piano teacher! And homemade tortilla chips? I make those for parties – and they are always such a hit! They’re sooo yummy! I’ve even heard that if you sprinkle cinnamon and some sugar (okay, so not soo healthy) they make a great dessert.

Gotta run – I have a smoothie to make!

Have a fab day all!

Good morning all. This week has really gotten away from me somehow. How does this happen?? Today I ran a 4 mile easy run followed by yoga for the lower body and meditation. Tomorrow is my rest day. Yeah.

Cathy- My calves are still killing me. PLB and gymstyle legs alwys do it to me. The calve work in both of those is killer.

Jess- What triathalon are you doing?? My friend just signed up to do one in Philly on July 8th. She is hinting around for me to do it with her.

Carol- Enjoy your workout today. I made one of your smoothies and it was awesome.

Hello to all other Cheetah. I have to get moving. I got to get to the store. It's 10 degrees today. Help. I need decaf coffee to warm my hands.

Back for a quick chat:

Wendy -- my post should have been edited to add "more Java" in that math equation with Staples, Office Max, etc.

Christine--thanks for the cinnamon-sugar tip. I had read that somewhere and forgot about the sweet treat aspect. I love sugar on anything, I'd eat it on cardboard -- that's my problem, I have to keep my sweet tooth in check (it seems I can have up to a certain amount and then BLAM, as Tony H would say, I am downed with headaches of the century. Interesting that I crave something that really makes me feel bad. Good job playing it safe with that injury. Your Sunday plan sounds like a killer.

Karen-- I always have bad DOMS after GSL, a little less so with PLB. The calf work on both is really hard. I wondered if part of my problem running yesterday was doing GSL the day before.

Have a great day everyone.
-Barb:)

I checked out the site that has the zig zag calorie counting for you. Well some days it has me eating under 1200calories. I would starve if I ate less than 1500cal a day. Is there another site that figures it differently? I put in there that I exercise 5xweek also. I think that is too few calories for someone who exercises 5x week.

thanks to all who gave advice on the puffiness with wt lifting. I can feel that area under the butt getting tighter too but I still have a fat layer there that is hindering the outlook of things. YIKES!!!

see ya later!

Hi Laura! I ran into the same problem. For me I use it more as a guideline. However, I remedied it by adding a couple hundred calories onto those days. I don't go under 1300 calories for sure. I get way too hungry. Most of my low days are 1400 calories because I made them that way. My body still responded really well. However, if an intense workout or long run falls on a low calorie day then I don't go that low. My current long run calorie day is about 1600, but my long runs are not that long yet, still doing low mileage building a base. After I get up to 8-12 miles for my long run then I will probably eat 1800-2000. I always give myself the option to change that if I need to. Here is what my week looks like: Monday & Tuesday - 1400 cal, Wednesday - 1600 cal, Thursday & Friday - 1400 cal, Saturday (long run day) - 1600, Sunday - 1500 cal. I hope someone can direct you to another website.
