CHEETAHS ~Happy almost 4th of July~Tuesday

Good morning cheetahs! It'll be a hot one here today in N. Arizona,
up to 100 degrees. That's pretty ho-hum down on Phoenix but it's unusual up here. Nice day to work out indoors;-) I'll be doing Amy's HiLoExt shortly and a good ab workout as well.

For those of you interested in running using the HR method advocated by Maffetone. I replied to Judy with a very interesting article I read while flying home last week. Check it out.

Wendy- No DOMS? It may still sneak up on you. I know I've done some killer UB workouts where I've been sure I'd be suffering the nexzt day.... and nothing! Hey, if your not motivated to train for a half, then don't! There's no point in running if your are forcing yourself... IMHO! OMG girl, you have GOT to try Whole Foods!!!! Jerry and I had our supper from the one in Middletown when we stayed the night there. I'd be in there EVERY day if I lived there!!!!
It is an awesome place.... we have Trader Joe's here and it doesn't hold a candle to Whole Foods , IMO.

Judy- Sounds like your Spanish exchange student is in for a very fun time!! Sorry you're experiencing such frustrations with the HR training technique!

Kristi- Most of Cathe's weight training DVDs have time saver premixed in them which should be useful to you.

Laurie- It is going to be such a wonderful huge relief to give notice!!! I hope your gym has your workplace finished! BTW, I got my first ever (it only took 50 yrs!) professional massage (deep tissue) while I was on vacation. HEAVEN! I'm mad at myself for having waited to long to experience it!!

Carole- Still painting!! Wow, what a project. At least you've got the ceiling done. That's the worst part to do I think. Sounds like a good solid leg day for you! I was on the iTrain site a little while ago... the new workouts do sound interesting!

Marcia- Wow, I feel your frustration. We've all been stuck on those frustrating plateaus before. I'm afraid it most likely is your diet.
I agree with Cathy about closely examining your portions and being brutally honest with yourself. I also personally love the concept in Eat to Live about making the Salad your meal and the rest of the entree as a side dish, so to speak. I make HUGE delicious salads that fill me up and satisfy me. In the meantime, feel free to whine, rant, whatever here!!! It does help;-)

Cathy- Pat yourself on the back there girl!!!! Great workout for you. And I am so impressed about doing the weights first! I'm afraid I always run first, never been brave enough to try it vice versa I have to admit! Oh boy a visit to the crotch doc!

Jess- Back and Biceps are my favorite muscle groups to work... the sexy ones as Tony says;-) You are lifting some serious poundage there buff girl!!! Happy Birthday to your adorable Allison!!!:+

Jackie- Thanks for the iTread suggestion!!! I have major hills to contend with around here. I'm doing a 10k tomorrow that's a hill challenge. Great job on uping the incline on the TM!

Time to get busy. Later today I'll go for 40 min or so on the EXT.
Tomorrow is a 4th of July 10k. My town where I live, Prescott, AZ
is celebrating the "World's Oldest Rodeo", or so they claim. It's been held every year for more than 100 yrs. Anyway, this 10k is part of the festivities... a nice small race. Last year there were less than 50 runners, so it's a nice change for me.

tata cheetahs

ShellyC

good afternoon,

quick check-in today,

judy- glad to hear from you again.

wendy- your tat looks awesome. you are making me want another one. just kiddin'. man, those folks better get on the ball and get your dvd to you asap. i am sure all will work out and we will have another certified PT amongst us!!

kristi- me and jess are going to do p90x in aug. feel free to join us!
i am also thinking i will do it again with cathy and wendy.

carole- i saw a couple of new ones up this morning but not the ones i was looking forward to.:(

jackie- i am sure you will like them all. i prefer istrength over isculpt just because i think mimi talks to much sometimes.

jess- have you picked a date yet?

cathy- sorry you didn't like your new yoga vids. i just ordered a new workout called the PIT...sounds scary doesn't it, lol.

shelly- i say just go ahead and get them all...lol

today's workout is supposed to be BBC legs. however not sure when i will have a chance to fit it in today. i did do itread nip and tuck, loved it!!

Jackie: Glad you enjoyed your Itread work out. I may have that one but I have too many to keep track of at this point! LOL I still have an ITread that I haven't tried yet! Tomorrow if I get to the gym it's on the agenda! So I recently signed up for the yearly resolutions pkg with ITrain and used my 1st month's 3 work out credits up in an instant! I already have more I want to buy but hafta wait until I get my next batch of credits for the month! WAAAAH!;(

Shelly: You are right about the half training which is why I am not forcing it. If I force it I won't see it through so why bother. I will wait until I feel I can truly dedicate myself to it. I think the problem is that I am afraid of cutting back on my weights and upping my running in order to train. I love running but decreasing cardio has done wonders for me. I don't want to lose everything while training!

ETA:

Sunny, So I'm not making you want another tat, huh? You have one...you WILL want another at some point! Most people do!:7 Now if you can restrain yourself and NOT get it then you are a stronger woman than I! It's truly addictive. You just have to know when to say when for yourself. :)

Hey Gals:) I thoroughtly enjoyed LIC cardio/leg premix and BodyPump upper body this morning:) Nothing to report from the gym, with the long weekend not much got accomplished so I'll just keep on biding my time:)

Carole, I never do leg work before a run, how does it affect your run? I guess you'd be nice and warmed up and ready to go! I should try it just to mix things up a bit:)

Marcia, sorry you're feeling discourage, it's a constant battle, especially around holiday weekends. You just keep on keepin' on :)

Wendy, glad you're getting out and enjoying this gorgeous weather. I love iced coffee:9, actually, I love anything coffee:)

Cathy, sounds like you are really making the most of this change of pace!:) That's funny that you and Carole both did lower body before your runs...now I've GOT TO give it a go:)

Jackie, good job on your run, sounds challenging. Believe me, it took a long time for me to get confident cooking, part of my motivation is that I'm too cheap to pay for prepared foods:+

Shelly, YEAH!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed your massage. Deep work is wonderful and for a lot of people, surprisingly relaxing. I'm due for a massage myself....wish I could just do that...massage myself but it just ain't the same:D

I'd better get ready for work:)

Take Care
Laurie:)

wendy- i am the same as you. i have too many itreads and can't remember which is which. i am going to get the new ones! well i got my first tattoo at 25 and i am now 37 so i think i can say i was able to resist:p lol.

laurie- wish i lived near you so i could get a massage:) sounds like you had a good workout today!

Sunny, I was 25 when I got my first tat and 27 or 28 when I got my second. I'm now 35 and just got my third so I guess I am getting better at resisting too!:7 :7 :7 I just looked at the new Itread set and I want the shorter one! I only have 1 60 min work out and rarely do it but I am silly. I should do it more often cause it's like 2 work outs in 1 so if I don't want to do the entire 60 mins I still have a choice of two 30 minute work outs as well! I may have to pick up some more 60's for this reason!:) I am running out of space on my Ipod! I am going to have to start off-loading the music to make room for more work outs!:p

Just finished a scrumptious Mandarin Chicken Salad from SaladWorks…yummm!! Also went to Dick’s and spent too much money on new workout gear.

Wendy :: *lol* - Yeah, we were on the same wavelength, huh?…Even if I figured out a design for a tat, I think I’d be too much of a wuss! *lol*…Re: the weights before cardio…I have been having a protein smoothie in between – is that defeating the purpose?

Jackie :: I imagine there is an iYoga, huh? I’m gonna go check that out. I have enough power yoga vids and am having a dickens of a time trying to find one that concentrates on flexibility. Great re doing the X in January – the more, the merrier. I do need to figure out a solution for the pullup bar by then. I think I would’ve seen better results if I’d had one of those instead of the bands…whoo, you do like to torture yourself with those hills, don’t you?

Shelly :: Saw your comments to Judy and think that does make sense that there would be no universal max rate for all just based upon age…Sally Edwards is of a similar mindset…Why, thank you, for the compliment. This is why I love being off and having the time (and energy) to take my time with weights & cardio on the same day. If only I didn’t have to work! *lol* In the past, I have always run first. It was simply my routine, not a specific training strategy. I seem to like that better but am open to a new way of doing things...Best of luck in tomorrow’s 10K.

Sunny :: awesome for all of us to do the X in January!!…*lol* about the title of your new workout. What kind is it?

Laurie :: yes, I am absolutely *loving* this change of pace!

OK, heading outside for a bit of reading (professional reading this time). Yesterday I finished a memoir called A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. If you are looking for a gripping, harrowing read, Beah recounts his experiences as a boy soldier in Sierra Leone in the early to mid 1990s. At age 12, he had to flee his village, trying to escape from the rebel soldiers, who went from village to village brutally raping, torturing, and murdering countless victims. The rebels would capture and recruit young boys and brand them with the rebel symbol, so that even if the boys managed to escape, the national army would see the brand and kill them. Ishmael was on the run for awhile but he winds up getting picked up by the government’s army and is sent to the frontlines, where he has no other choice but to kill or be killed. At age 15, he is saved by UNICEF. The story is one that you simply cannot put down. My heart was in my throat the entire time.

OK, off I go…
Cathy :)

Cathy: If I am doing weights and cardio in the same day I will often do the work outs far enough apart to where I will NEED to eat something between them simply because a meal time comes around so ofcourse I am hungry! I never thought about wether or not this would defeat the purpose or not! Possibly doing the cardio IMMEDIATELY following the weights w/o a break or any kind of food would be optimal but I can't believe we are wasting our time otherwise though it's a great question!
Any other cheetahs have any insight on this one???

I did PLB. I upped my weights and truly didn't feel it enough! My legs have gotten stronger then I thought so I will be upping my weights again the next time I do this work out!}(

I'll be back later!:)

wendy- don't get me wrong i've thought about getting additional ones. just punked out in the end:D . i just bought all three new ones!! i do the 60 mins alot but don't do the 30 mins. however i still want it...just in case. lol

cathy- it is a boxing/strength type of workout. hard to explain. i saw alot of good reviews about it on VF. just had to have it:7 sounds like an awesome read.

Wendy :: I think I could afford to up my weights on PLB also. I should probably keep a record, too, like with the X. I think I saw a thread about Excel spreadsheets somewhere. Will have to go hunt that one down.

Sunny :: let us know how the boxing workout is. Very intriguing name. *lol*

Well, I got the gyn over with - now I'm good for another 6 mos. He hooked me up with 3 mos. worth of BC. Gotta love the man.

"I always loved running...You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."
-Jesse Owens

Shelly-

Your reference makes sense to me. I will check out the article. I have wondered about my true max HR. Perhaps I should run a 5k and see for myself. :)

ETA- I just looked at Running Times online and did not find the article, which issue is it in? I will try to pick up a copy.
