CHEETAHS check in for Tuesday 6/20/06

yes my run was better today but i still am not 100%. But it felt good to be able to run more normal. My chest hurt a little afterwards but the cooler weather definately helped me out. Now if I could keep the hot weather away...

I want to go on a cruise, someday! I am jealous. A coworker just came back from hawaii and had some awesome pictures to show us. Looked like paradise to me. Have fun, I think it was wendy that was going.

Gayle you'll do great at your races!!!!
carole have a nice workout!! I need to incorporate more leg work. It seems like I dont have enough time to get everything in sometimes.

talk with everyone later!

Ok now I'm fustrated. My stinking IT band is irritated again. I think it has something to do with the hills. I was fine last night but after my run today I felt a little pull on the side of the knee. Sure enough there is a small bruise like the last time I had this issue. I'm being so careful but my IT band is not cooperating. Now I'm not sure I should even do the half. Maybe I should just stick with 3 runs a week and just do 5k and 10k's. Hell, I'm just fustrated. Maybe this is not meant to be for me. Maybe short races are my future. Ok I'm done ranting. Karen

Karen...I do feel your frustration...I would suggest staying away from hills if you can as I think that is aggravating the IT band. Ice and stretching!!! And right now do stick with running only 3 times a week, and maybe then the pain will subside...sending healing vibes...:)...

Karen, am I recalling correctly, you did 30 minutes of hill repeats yesterday? If I'm right then I'd venture to say that it might have been too much too soon. Amby Burfoot says in his book, The Principles Of Running, that on your first day of hill repeats you should start with 3 or 4 on a hill of 100 to 200 meters. Repeat the workout once a week adding on 1 repeat until you reach 10 then take a break from them for several weeks.

Karen - you've already gotten excellent advice from Carole and Elaine. I'll just send my healing vibes along with theirs... Thinking of you!

Thanks Christine Carole and Elaine. I am so ticked. I am icing right now. I truly do stretch all the time. After every run I stretch 30 min of some type. Yoga, stretch max, YP you name it.

Elaine- I did do the hill repeats on the driveway for 30 min. My driveway is steep but only like 30 meters. I thought maybe it would even out. I swear I will never learn. I think my endurace is better than my legs will allow. I think your right Carole it's back to 3 days a week again for me. I would love to know why it bruises on the side of the knee. I think it's from all the rubbing going on under the skin. I tell you I sat down in a chair and when I bent the knee I felt the tug. Looked down and notice the bruise in the same spot as before. UGH!!!!!!!! Thanks again for the well wished Christine. I can feel the vibes over here.

Karen,

I had the same problem with my IT band and I got one of those IT band straps at walmart and that helped tremendously. Also if you can freeze some water in a paper cup, ice the area for 5minutes or so. Like an ice massage, it numbs the area. This works better than a ice pack. I would steer clear of anything that can aggravate the area. I worked through mine and was able to do my half marathon.Hope this helps!!

Good evening Cheetahs!

Laura, glad to see you're on the mend. Hope you reach 100% soon!

Wendy, have fun cruisin'! I'm so excited for you (ok, and a little jealous too :)).

Carole, thanks -- I don't think I've put in much more than 350 miles on the shoes, and they do appear to be in good condition; however, I would like to nip the knee pain in the bud. I think I'll take the shoes to Runner's Depot and get an opinion from them too. The owner is pretty nice, and I don't think he'll try to sell me a pair of shoes if I don't need them.

Christine, enjoy your trip with DH tomorrow. It sounds wonderful -- massages, wine, good company . . . mmm, I'm feeling a little envious again :).

Karen, sorry your IT band is acting up again. I hope it heals quickly with your new plan of 3 runs per week. Maybe you'll heal fast enough to still be able to participate in your half.

Hi Barb, Elaine, Cathy, Marcia, Mattea, Gayle, Judy, Sarah, Shelly and Thomasina.

Today is Core Synergistics (haven't done it yet, and now the Heat game is on so I'll either be exercising really late or not at all. I sent DH to the party without me because this every night party thing is leaving me exhausted, and it's interfering with my workouts.)

Have a great evening everyone!

GO HEAT!! ::)

karen I dont recall bruising but my knee was very tight when I would flex it or after sitting for a long time. I 'd go to get up and OUCH! It hurt to bend the knee the first few steps. sucks, but listen to your body and back off the runs if needed. I would walk and try to run but had to walk/run until I got the strap and doctored it for a few weeks. I havent had any problems with it since then. Goodluck!!

Good Morning Cheetahs!
Sorry I was MIA today, but after working out this morning (the cardio and power circuit segment of BMax) I had the weirdest experience. I had a what felt like bodyaches all over my body, kind of like the flux( I wasn't dehydrated, I took some extra potassium and sodium just in case, and had some extra carbs, but the feeling pretty much lasted all day (still feel a little bit achey) and now I'm battling a headache! I think I'll be taking it easy tomorrow after some good sleep tonight. Maybe some upper body and abs. So sorry no real time for personals, but I just wanted to say:

Laura-I'm so glad your run w/ SIL went well today! And that we all love you, so everyone was thinking what I was saying so no problem at all for the name mix-up. Besides, Barb is so awesome she must have rubbed off on me and probably deserves some of the credit anyway! LOL!

Karen-[[[[GIANT MONSTER CYBER HUGS]]]] So sorry to hear about the IT band. I know you'll work through this! Listen to Super Carole and Elaine (who listens to Sarah about stretching, lol) Scour the internet for stretches, treatments, and advice!

Wendy-We'll miss you!! Enjoy:7

And just to finish, Carole, I think that we have Aquajock to (blame?) thank for Circuit Max and the heavy barbell}(

Mattea

Hi everyone!

I'll miss you all while I'm away but I'm not payin' thier ridiculous internet rates to log on and say hello..sorry! I love you all but um...NO! LOL :p :7

I have 2 work outs planned for tomorrow...do ya believe it!? LOL I'm due for weights and cardio and I just got a new vid today that is a little cardio but mostly muscle endurance and it's broken down nicely into 2 shorter work outs so I'm going to do one of them which should take me about 40 mins and then I plan to run before dinner on the ship...TM or track...haven't decided yet...I should probably give the track a go though as it's closer to outdoor running.

I'm just hangin' out now waiting for my last minute load of laundry to finish and then it's off to bed...need to get up at "normal" time tomorrow...no sleepin' in for me! :)

Have a fantastic week ladies!:+

Enjoy your trip Wendy! I'll probably not sign in either - although I might. Hey if anyone is looking for a good deal on cute (adorable) summer clothes - the Gap is having a sale and they have some sweet things! I'm all set for my trip - and all packed as well! :)

Tomorrow is Back and Biceps Core Max #3, and cardio - probably a run but maybe something else - we'll see. Then it's off. Where we're staying they offer free access to the Yountville fitness center, so I have exercise clothes and sneakers (if I'm going to sin, I have to attone for it). I will miss y'all!! "See ya" on Saturday!
