Hey, cheetahs~
Good morning, Marcia & Sunny, and all who follow. I knocked out early last night and am home sick today, but my internal alarm clock is still working.
Catching up w/ yesterday’s posts (so many!)…
Barb ::: Great job getting out there in the cold & dark! You rock!!…Oh! Thanks for the explanation on the calories…yes, that does make sense! I’ve been a little foggy the last couple of days...Yesterday, the only student who didn’t admit he plagiarized
confessed in front of the whole class! Wow, was that tough. I’m proud of him for doing the right thing. My team leader wanted me to give them all zeros and send them to the office, but I insisted on giving them the opportunity to rewrite for half credit. I think it’s important to give them another chance to learn from this mistake NOW in 8th grade rather than later on in HS or college when the repercussions could be much more severe. It’s also a learning experience for me b/c it tells me that I need to do more work with my students about avoiding plagiarism. By the way, please PM or email me DH’s website info…I’d like to pitch in, too.
Marcia ::: Oh, believe you me
~ I do wash my hands as much as possible and keep an ample stock of anti-bacterial gels in the classroom for *everyone* to use, but the germs are still rampant. As a school employee, you KNOW what I’m talking about!
This year seems to me to be worse than previous years. I feel like my body has been constantly under attack! The walking at lunch plan sounds great. I agree with Barb :: just being around the negativity is a drain. Since I switched to a new district, I have taken to eating lunch in my classroom – it’s much better that way. Hey, if I recall correctly, you were looking to obtain a new position within your school/district, right?…any word on that?
Wendy ::: How was last night’s stretch? Did your lats thank you for it? …Oh yeah, daycares & nurseries have gotta be worse for catching bugs. Kudos to you for having a strong immune system! I know when I first starting teaching, I was constantly sick the first year. I think it’s the combo of a whole lotta stress plus a whole lotta germs. I’d work out for 2-3 weeks, get sick and have to stop, and the vicious cycle would repeat itself all over again. It was a tough year. And ultimately, I wound up piling on some pounds…I’m like you in that I love to eat and if I don’t work out, I will gain…Re: the OCD, I think most of us here have a healthy obsession w/ fitness…It was unhealthy for me (years ago) when I was running through pain and getting seriously bummed or PO’d if I had to miss a run…From that, I learned to listen to my body better…And, too, now my life is so crazy-busy at times (more so than it used to be) that flexibility is a must. Like the other night, I let my run go to hang out w/ a good friend I hadn’t seen in awhile. I hesitated to say yes at first b/c I really wanted to go home & workout, but basically I *made* myself go. A couple Fridays ago – same thing. I worked out after school and then didn’t want to go out & meet friends for even a single beer. (I had 3 beers and no bar food that night, so it was fine.) I just try to remind myself that life is too short not to make time for people. The TM and the weights will still be there tomorrow. So, anyway, I think I have a much better handle on not getting TOO crazy-obsessed like I was before.
Karen ::: happy 8th birthday to your DD! I hear you on the weather – enough already! It’s hard to believe that earlier this month, it was 70 degrees and I was running in shorts and a tee!! I think that is why the cold now is such a shock and I can’t deal with it.
Kristi ::: most HMs around here are in the $25-35 range for early entry and will usually go up $5-10 for late entry. So, I agree that the jump for late entry on the Derby seems a bit steep! Then again, I have seen one HM that was $50 for early entry and $70 for late entry!! Well, think about it this way :: if you register the two of you now, you can buy yourself a new running (shirt/pant/fill-in-the-blank)!
Though I’m not running in the frigid temps now, when I used to my bottom layer would be an Under Armour-type long-sleeve, then a performance fleece on top, and a lined windbreaker-type jacket. On the bottom, I’d wear a thick pair of tights. And then, of course, 1-2 pairs of socks, gloves, and a hat. The neck gaitors Laura mentioned are great, too. The brand I like is Turtle Fur.
Christine ::: I love that feeling of “good” tired! Thanks for the offer of chicken soup. I intended to make some last night, but I fell asleep early. That’ll be lunch for today.
Carole ::: how much are you looking to lose? Oh, yeah! I remember the last time I had the sniffles coming on (not very long ago), your DH was down with a bug also. You & Shelly mentioned the purple bands…did you get yours from fwonline? I know I’m not ready for silver, but purple is the next step up after green, correct?
Sunny ::: nice deal from the company!!! This is such an exciting time for you! After some hectic weeks, enjoy having a little breather.
Susan ::: How’d it go with the PT? Hope the throat gunk goes away soon and you & Mariah both feel better! I am going to go for a walk on the tm today just to do SOMETHING. Good luck on the clean eating! I have strayed a bit myself in the past week and need to regroup.
Laurie ::: I think allowing the lip piercing was a wise move, even if it is a little hard to handle. (Personally, it seems like it’d be painful!) The way you described it sounds like it was tastefully done, as piercings go. As you said, she’s a great kid with her act together…I think parents have to pick their battles… this is a small thing to give in on, and is – in all likelihood – a temporary adornment.
Shelly ::: whatever wore out our Shelly-nator must have been SERIOUSLY hardcore! Hope your next night @ work is a bit easier on you. I think I had two colds last year…this year, I’ve been going through this spiel usually once but sometimes twice a month! I’ll have a bug for 1-2 days, and then I manage to snap out of it. It’s weird! But I’m hoping I can do the same this time. A lot of race calendars aren’t quite full for summer just yet, but I know there is a Barnegat to Bay 8K in Barnegat. Keep us posted on your plans…if I can work it on my schedule, I’d love to drive down and meet up with you for a race! Enjoy those new workouts!!
Have a great day, everyone!
