Cathlete
Good morning, cheetahs! Hope you all had a great weekend.

I'm back after being out of commish for a few days. (Thanks, everyone, for the get well wishes!) After missing work on Friday and taking a total of 3 consecutive rest days, I just *had* to get out there, so I went for a slow but not-so-easy run last night. Man, was it HOT! Am still congested & coughing, but I'm on the mend, thankfully. And I truly felt "better" after that run.

Today is probably a rest day as it is graduation night...will be a long day/night. Just one more day of school after this and then Thursday it's off to Germany. Busy week!

BTW, weighed myself on Friday morning and I'm down another 2 lbs (total of 23 lbs lost). Yippee!!

Have a great Monday, everyone--
cathy :)

Good morning Cathy and all that follow.

Cathy - I'm so glad you are feeling better. Kudos to you for taking the time you needed to get over this and ready to roll. Good job, you listened to your body and that's what we all need to learn to do.

I need to get back on the band wangon. UGH!!! I fell off this weekend, BAD......I did get my 5 miles in on Friday, but did nothing after that and last night overindulged with the neighbors at our cookout. I will be paying for that this week for sure. I just couldn't turn down homemade strawberry pie, YUMMY :9 :9 :9 It was the best I've ever had.

I have another board meeting tonight which will hopefully not go until midnight, but there is definite potential for it, I'm afraid. These are my tough days, so I better stay focused and come here often today to talk with all of you and keep motivated.

My SIL made a comment to me this weekend (not meaning anything bad by it), but she said I was "thick". UGH! THICK, I was devastated and what a blow to the ego and head. That straightened me right up. I went grocery shopping got all good things. All I kept saying to myself all weekend was "I don't want to be thick"! So, I'm on a mission - now I just need to quit feeling sorry for myself and do it, get back on the fitness/clean eating wagon and go for it!

Sorry so long, guess I missed you guys.:)

Talk more later.
Marcia.

Good Morning Cheetahs. Today is Muscle max for me. I am beginning my firt week of training for the half. It looks relativly easy considering I'm running only 16 miles when this week I put in 30. I guess I need to start off slow for the long haul. Anyway this weekend was a mess as far as eating. Too much food, too many picnic. Today is a new day so off I go back to my old self again.

Cathy- I'm so glad you are feeling better. Germany sounds wonderful

Marcia- Yeah thick is not a compliment in my book. I don't understand why people feel the need to say anything if it isn't positive. It really can put you into a tail spin. Completely blow it off and start fresh today. The weekend is over and today we are back to being what we know we can be. Healthy people. Man that irritates me. I've been there when people have said stuff to me and I just don't get why they feel the need to say anything at all.

Hello Cathy, Marcia, Karen and all who follow.

I have my first running class tonight. They will be starting off super easy so I'm thinking of adding in a bit more cardio with my work out this morning and I have to get the weights in for certain. No clue what I'll do yet but I'll let y'all know when I FINALLY make up my mind!:p

I still have a ton to do in prep for vacation so I may not have time for personals but I'll try later!

Have a great day!:)

Hi, ladies.

Wendy-have fun tonight! Be sure to let us know tomorrow what you think!

Marcia-did she mean it as an insult? I describe myself as THICK sometimes too, though. Not fat or pudgy, just thick. As in not petite. I'm not helping you though, am I? LOL.

Karen-I know, it is wierd to be running LESS when you start officially training, isn't it? That's how I am right now!

OK...gotta be quick. This weekend camping trip was AWESOME! I ate well, was VERY active with hiking, walking, swimming, running. My friend who was going to run with me got sick and went home early Satruday morning, but that didn't stop me. I got my long run of 4 miles in last night on the treadmill. Then got up early this AM for Muscle Endurance plus the leg press premix for good measure.

See ya all later!

Gayle

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy..glad to hear you are on the mend! Being sick is really no fun!! Congrats on the weight loss...:)...I bet you will have lots of fun in Germany.

Marcia...at least if you fell off the bandwagon it was for something very good tasting!! Inlaws can just be so darn insensitive!! Just blow it off like Karen said and concentrate on you...:)...We all have our cheating moments as far as diet...you'll be back on track this week...

Karen...how exciting to start your half training...:)...have fun with Musclemax!

Wendy...have fun at your first running class!! Let us know how it goes..

Gayle...sounds like your weekend was a blast. Good workout with Muscle Endurance this morning!!

I'll be doing a 4 or 5 mile run, abs and shoulders and biceps. My tris are still sore from CTX on sat!!

Have a great day...

Good Morning everyone!

I'm just now rolling out of bed! I took my DD to see a theater production of Beauty And The Beast last night and didn't get home until midnight. So now I'm running behind a bit but think I'll still have time to do GS Legs standing and some elliptical! I am so happy that the Gym Styles are back in my rotation. I never dread working out when they are on tap. Cathe hit the jackpot when she made them!:) :)

Karen, When I am going to begin a running program I always keep my mileage where it is and then increase it when the schedule calls for more than what I am doing. I couldn't imagine going for a 5 mile long run!! LOL!!!

Wendy, Can't wait to hear how your class goes tonight! I know your busy so I'll wait patiently!:)

Marcia, Just do your shopping and hop right back on that wagon! And to me, when I think of a person as thick, it means that they are muscular and fit, not petite. Basically what Gayle said. So don't let your SILs comment get you down. I 'm glad you were able to enjoy a delicous piece of strawberry pie! At least it wasn't something really rich with fat like banana cream.:)

Cathy, I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better and that a run actually helped. Where will you be in Germany? I used to live there years and years and years ago and loved it. My father lived there too and the last time I was there was when he was sick right before he died. :(

Gayle, Sounds like a fun weekend. Do you tent camp or do you have a trailer or something?

Carole, So you're taking it easy today, huh??? LOL! :) :) :) What are you going to do with the extra time?

Hello to everyone who'll be checking in later!:) :)

HI running friends:)

Today I did a 7.2 mile hilly run and felt good. For upper body I did Gym Style Chest and Trieps premix of super sets, but did longer sets of pushups. ( Cathe and crew do 8-6-4-2 and I did 14-10-8-4 sets )

Wendy- I hope you enjoy your class tonight
Carole- You managed the 20 miler? Hooray! CTX has made my tri's sore before too.
Gayle- glad you had such an enjoyable weekend
Karen- when is your half again?
Marcia & Cathy - today is a new day and a good one too!

PS- I checked out mapmyrun.com and am having fun with mapping routes. Also, a friend of mine who is also new to running is using it too!

Elaine- I was thinking the same thing but I wasn't sure that is what I should do or not. I thought maybe they did it like that so you wouldn't injure yourself.

Judy- Oct 14. I'm very excited. This is the first time I have ever done anything this big in terms of fitness. Well, other than losing over 100lbs. But this is somehow the same but different. It's kind of exciting.

Carole- As you can see I'm very excited although now I'm a little confused as to what to do.

Question- If I already run 30 miles a week should I begin to train for the half at about week 7 which put me at 24 miles a week. I don't know. Should I use a training schedule for a marathon but just do the half in Oct. This way my weekly milage will be at where I am now. Or should I just stick to the half training plan I already have which puts me at milage of week one 16 miles and then 18 then 19 and so on. Is there a reason for the low milage in the beginning of training. Any thoughts would grealty be appreciate.

Good Afternoon Cheetahs!
Today is RAINING!!!x( But cooler:D However, it didn't start raining (and getting cooler until after my workout}( So, needless to say I was still drenched!

Carole-Great run yesterday! I'll pass congrats onto DH :) Hope you enjoyed your lounge-chair yesterday as well;-) I always think that CTX tri's are one of the hardest tri workouts. Esp. the tri pushups at the end.

Laura-Just keep the chin-up cheetah! You are so strong and have come SUCH a long way. You continue to inspire ME and I hope you will remember that so you don't get so down on yourself. Staying fit is about a lifetime, and we all go through cycles where our bodies just don't seem to be 'behaving', lol. You'll get through this and be better than ever!

Karin-Nice to see you this week! Yes, the heat is beastly, but it's early, early, early and lots of water. Also, make sure you are dressed in as little as you can get away with and in appropriate fabric. Also, this is the time to seek out the shadier routes (maybe parks or trails) or at least try to run away from the sun, lol!

Cathy-Congrats on getting back into running with the heat and the cough. And on the weight loss:7 Are you packed for Germany?

Marcia-Don't beat yourself up, afterall you had the best strawberry pie ever, and hey, there was a fruit in there;-) And just forget what your SIL said. "Thick" is probably just her way of expressing muscular. Those are muscles, NOT fat! Just think of all that your body is capable of and celebrate what it does for you.

Karen-Enjoy MM! And your 'easy' week! Just keep thinking that you are building for, as you say, 'the long haul' :7

Wendy-I'm so excited for you tonight!! You are going to do so well and feel 100% for the 5K. Can't wait to hear how goes.

Gayle-Sounds like an amazing weekend, glad you had such a good time and kept the MACHINE going full tilt}(

Judy-I've never tried the premix on GS and will have to try it. Sometimes all the push-ups sounds like a lot!

Elaine-I think your advice to Karen makes really clear sense. Do you take any extra days off in the beginning or after long runs?

Today I did Circuit Max with a 35lb. barbell and then some extra upper body light weightwork and some Ab Hits at the end. Is it just me or does Circuit Max just never stop?!? That one is a cardio feast!
Have a great day:+
Mattea

Good morning my Cheetah pals!

I did a 5 mile hike (no running) yesterday because I did it with DH (it was Dad's Day, so it was his choice). Today I did Ab Ripper X, P90X Chest Shoulders and Tri's (feeling it today, in a good way), then went out for a 3 mile run. With DD out of school now, I can do more in the AM - I'm so excited. I love running in the crisp morning air. It was the first run in a long time that felt right. I'm very happy. I know I pushed too hard too soon, so I'm going to keep in nice and easy for the next few weeks - working up to 6 miles again by the time the 10K comes around. Had a wonderful Father's Day - hung out in the pool, then DSS grilled the filet mignon that I bought (it was incredible), along with potatoes, a nice salad, and corn. Watched the NBA finals and went to bed. Great game.

Cathy - WOW! And I thought I was busy!!! Glad to hear you're feeling better!

Marcia - sounds like you and I have the same issues - love of food. I'd be so skinny if I could simply tape my mouth shut for a few months... :+

Karen - I admire your good training habits. I learned the hard way not too push too hard too fast. Good to hear you're doing it right!

Wendy - oh enjoy your running class! Tell us all about it!!!

Gayle - Glad you had such a great time!

Carole - CTX Tri's are killer! Everything else is 10 minutes, those are 15! OUCH! Great job on the 20 miler!!

JuDy - sounds like you had a great workout!

Elaine - I like the GS series as well. I'm enjoying P90X and I love the strength gains, but I'm looking forward to a GS rotation when I'm done.

Mattea - we posted at the same time!!! Sorry to hear it's still raining - I'll send some California sun your way... :)

Thomasina - is DS back from DC/NY? How'd the trip go? DD is in DC right now. Sounds like they keep them moving right through the day until they are so exhausted they get into the hotel room and crash. Probably a smart thing to do with 80 or so kids 13 and 14 years old! :+ DD is having fun.

Karen, My body is conditioned (as is yours) to run long distances. I can easily go for a 13 mile run every weekend and so only start building my mileage from that point when I am going to train for a full marathon. I personally would not want to take a step back from that. However, only Hal Higdon's advanced schedule for a 1/2 maintains the longer distance from start to finish. In other words, listen to the experts!! LOL! I think it's a matter of finding what works best for you and you'll figure it out as you go along just as I'm sure you have with every other fitness goal. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Hey Mattea - that's on my agenda for tomorrow - Circuit Max with a 35/40 pound barbell (no upper body work - just the lower). Then I'll add on the GS legs floor work. It IS a tough workout, but it's fun. I think some of Cathe's older stuff is tougher than her newer stuff (except IMax 3).

Christine-OOHH! I'll have to try adding on the additional leg work sometime! I know what you mean about some of the older stuff, (like Body Max and MIC especially) or Imax on an 8 inch step?
Ouch:)
Mattea

Marcia—I think that was rude of your SIL even if it was unintentional. People don’t THINK about their choice of words -- or if what they’re thinking really needs to be verbalized in the first place. I agree with what others have said…shake it off as well as the indulgent weekend (we all need it now & then) and hope you have a strong week!

Wendy – have fun in your 1st class tonight!

Gayle – I got tired just reading about your weekend. *lol*

Carole – thanks! The weight had been coming off REAL slowly, so now that I’ve got some momentum goin’, it feels great!

Judy – the pushups on GS C&T *kill* me. Way to go!

Elaine – I will be mainly in Bremerhaven, up north. But I’m flying into Hanover for the World Cup match. Where did you live? I know what you mean about the GS. I love that series to the point where I never want to use any of the others!

Christine – I know what you mean. I love morning runs, too, when a lot of people aren’t out on the roads yet.

Mattea – I love getting caught out in the rain on sweltering summer days! Although now that I run with my iPod, it wouldn’t be such a good thing anymore. Anyhow, too bad you missed it. No, I’m not packed for Germany yet but did my shopping. (Usually I deal with the packing the night before.)

Hi to Barb, Thomasina, Pamela, Jess, Karen, Karin, ShellyC & anyone else I've accidentally missed. I'm in that Robitussin fog right now!

Hi Cheetahs,
Just a quick check in to say "hi." Did an 8 mile long run (long for me!) yesterday. It was good and I felt like I am officially beginning the new phase of running after the half marathon. Did Stretch X later in the day.

Today I did Core Synergistics and part of Stepblast. Fun change of pace to pull out SB again. I was going to swim, but have been rained out. So I'll try to work that in on Wednesday.

I'm focused on transitioning kids and family into summer mode. Everyone is happy and having fun, including me. ;-)

Carole -- glad the run yesterday went well.

Mattea -- glad the weekend went as good as it could, but you did an amazing letting family members vent and staying positive. Congrats to you DH on his race. Hope his calf is ok.

Judy - awesome number of pushups. It's cool your new plan of mixing weights and running on the same day is working. I fear the push up sequence on GS, but like others, love the series. It's definitely my favorite series.

Christine -- the hiking sounds really fun. I wish there were places around where I live to hike, but there aren't. It's nice your DH loved the dinner. We ended up with Sushi for my DH for father's day.

Cathy -- have a great time on your trip. Glad you are feeling better. My husband has a waterproof I-Pod cover. If you knew him, you wouldn't be surprised about this!

Marcia -- sorry about the upsetting words. Don't take it to heart. Just keep on doing what you were doing before and know that you are doing good things with your body and taking care of yourself.

Elaine -- the half yesterday sounds interesting. Loved the color description. It's very cool that 13 miles is a "no biggy" for you. I would love to say that! The play sounds fun. Was it adult actors or child actors?

Wendy-- good luck and have fun at your class tonight.

Gayle -- sounds like a fun weekend.

Karen -- ditto on what Elaine said to you about figuring out what will work best. I fiddled around with different plans until I found something that worked for me. I would feel nervous, too, about cutting back my overall weekly mileage. But it could also be fun to start at a lower weekly mileage level and build back up. Maybe it would get your further ahead? Experiment until you find what works for you.

Hi to everyone else who checks in later: Karin, Shelly C ( think you're on vacation), Jess (in the Dells?), Thomasina....

have a great rest of the day:) :) :)

Barb

Thanks eveyone for all your input on my training. I think I am going to tweak it a little. I think that maybe I will put in more mileage at the beginning then I see planned here on paper. So to impove on MM today I went outside and did 30 min of my verison of hill reapeats. They are officaly named driveway repeats. I ran around my yard for a 5 min warmup and then ran up the driveway and jogged down it for a total of 30 min. Man that was tough. My driveway is steep.

Barb- What are your new plans as far as working out. You say a new phase. Does that include more races or are you working on just increasing mileage and learing. It's fun to here how training for a race and then not training for one effect people. I know you work at somthing for so long and then your need to set new goals for yourself know matter what they may be. What is your new phase?

Hi Cheetahs,

Sorry I've been mia lately, but last week was just a whirlwind of activity. I won't bore you with the details, but I did end up taking four consecutive rest days, and, surprisingly, I don't feel guilty :). I pulled a muscle in my back(lats) early last week and by Thursday it hurt just to lift my arm. Just wiping the counters was torture. Also, my knee was stiff, sore and swollen for days. It still doesn't feel quite right, but the rest did help it. My back seems to be better now too. Today was a 7mile easy run. I think I'm also supposed to do P90X Core synergistics, but I might postpone that to tomorrow and do Shoulders and Arms instead since I didn't do it last week because of my lats.

Cathy, I'm glad you're on the mend. I bet you can't wait for your trip. Great job on the weight loss!

Marcia, hope the board meeting doesn't last too long. Don't worry about that "thick" comment - you're doing great! We can get back on the bandwagon together. :) (BTW Strawberry pie sounds yummy. For me it was my mom's banana pudding. Until yesterday, it had been years since my mom made banana pudding so you know I had to have some.)

Karen, when is your half? I guess we were all cooking out this weekend. I spent half the day yesterday at the grill, and the other half in the kitchen. :)

Wendy, let us know how the running class goes. It sounds interesting. You are going to have a blast on that cruise!

Gayle, sounds like you had a great camping trip.

Carole, hope you enjoy your run today! Quick question, I've had my shoes since January, and they feel fine, but my knee really bothered me this past week. Could it be time for new shoes?

Great run Judy, I love mapping my runs too! (I use USATF)

Elaine, I hope you're able to fit in your workout. I agree -- the gymstyles are some of Cathe's best work.

Christine, sounds like you had a great Father's Day. I'm glad things sound like they're really going well.

Mattea, I'm still in time out for yoga avoidance :), but I'm glad you've reconnected with strength training :D.

Hi Barb, Thomasina, Shelly, Laura, Sarah, Jess and everyone else who may check in later!

TTFN
Pamela

Hi Pamela--
I think we were posting at the same time. Sorry to hear about your injury, but am glad you are feeling better enough to have run today. Core synergistics is definitely something I feel in my back/lat/oblique/core area, so maybe it's smart to skip it if you're worried about yoru back.

Karen--when my kids were really little, I used to run around my driveway!! LOL. Hill repeats on your steep driveway sounds like a great idea. Keep tweaking your plan and you will find something that works for you. Thanks for asking about my plans.
We have a big family event coming up in Sept. at our house 50-70 people --gulp -- so I need to focus on getting that done with my full focus rather than on running.
My goal for the next 12 weeks is to maintain what I worked attain, so that means keep my weekly mileage the same or increase slightly. I'll basically follow the same training plan with a speed run mid week, two easy runs and a long run, but not do long runs greater than 10 or 11 miles for now.
I am going to focus on a few areas of my running form that I know need work and see if I can correct them. There are things in my stride I'd like to fix. If I can't fix the stride things on my own, I may go back to the place I had PT and get some help, once that family event is done and over. Then I'd feel safer about trying to work on speed goals without reinjuring my hip.
Then after the family event, I will probably set another race goal, either running a 10k for a speed goal or training for another half and seeing if I can beat my time by something modest, say 15 sec. per mile faster.

onward to Target to buy stuff with my DS who's going to camp next week!
