Hi Everyone! We are busy beavers editing and I am breaking to enjoy my salmon, broccoli, and rice lunch.....MMMM, I'm starved! Anybody have any STS questions while I'm here? Or any questions at all for that matter? I'm going to check out the other questions in Ask Cathe in the meantime:7

Happy Tuesday, Cathe!!!!

Cathe:

I have a question! :) Thanks to your encouragement, I started using the assisted dip and pull-up machine at the club. How heavy does your machine go? The one at our club has 160 pounds for the top weight. I weigh around 220 pounds, and I was only able to do 4 dips and 4 pull-ups at the heaviest weight (with a wide grip) the first time! I have some serious strength training to do before STS arrives! I have worked my way up to 12 chin-ups (with the grip you are using in the blog pictures), 12 dips, and 4 pull-ups with a wide grip.

If you have any advice on how to add these to my rotation and how many sets and reps to do, please share. I am currently enjoying the 4-Day Split rotation. My goal is to do 4 unassisted pull-ups with perfect form by my 40th birthday. Would twice a week be a good start? How many sets and reps should I be able to do before decreasing the weight on the machine?

I am looking forward to seeing you in July and giving you another Heather hug. :* I hope you invite the new STS cast members too. ;-)

Have a blessed day! :7

Blessings,
Heather B.

I've a question! This may seem like a silly one, but I'm gonna swallow my pride and ask it:

At what tempo should we be lifting in order to calculate our 1RM? For instance, should be using a 2/2 count, or a 4/4 count, or should we just lift the weight in a slow, controlled manner, and see how many reps we can reach?

Thanks!

I CANNOT wait for STS! (Also, I can't wait for the August Road Trip!!!)

Hi Cathe!

I can't wait to meet you at the august road trip. I'll be flying in all the way from Canada!

I do have a question - how come I am having a hard time with chest presses but can lift heavier with chest flyes? Also I do better with wide pushups versus regular ones. Will STS help me balance that out and build strength in these areas of weakness?

Thanks so much!:7

Maggie

Hi Cathe,

It has been a while since I posted a question on this forum, so, here we go, after STS is done do you have an idea how many workouts are you planning on filming for the MM series?

P.S. STS is going to be your best series, thank you so very much. You are one special person!!! Sending tons of hugs!!!!

I'm also interested in news on the MMA workouts (which I've been anxiously awaiting ever since they were announced!). Any idea on when filming will start on these?

Hi Jillybean! Can't wait to finally meet you in August :7 Wahoo....

Ok, back to your question, tee hee, you should just lift the weight up in a controlled manner with good form. Don't think 2/2 or 4/4...simply lift it with controlled, good form, and don't lose count. Say them outloud on your exhale. Good Luck!

RE: Happy Tuesday, Cathe!!!!

Hi Heather....soon I will be seeing you again :) I don't have access to our machine right now so I can't give you the poundage but if were able to get 4 pull ups and 4 dips with the poundage available, that's excellent.

I would say for right now you should do this 2 times a week when doing total body workouts. If you are doing split workouts, do pull ups on your back or bicep day and do dips on your tricep or chest day. Try 2 sets of 4 to start with (2 times per week). Then after three weeks, try three sets of how ever many you can get. I think doing these dips and pull ups as part of your weight routines is great and therefore sticking with two times per week is good. If you wanted to do a bootcamp type workout one day in that week, you could put your pull ups and dips into this workout as well (which could bring you up to doing them a third time that week which is ok too as long as your body is ready for it).

Hope this helps. Good luck with your goals. See you soon!

Hi Monse! Wow, it's been so long since I have heard from you. How are you? Regarding MMA series.....gosh, it's really too soon to know that right now. Wish I could tell you but there is just know way to know that yet.

Thanks for posting today :7 It was great to hear from you.

I may have missed you!!! Just wanted to say HI! And that you're eating MY DINNER! That's exactly what I'm serving the boys tonight. YUMMO!

Like everybody else, I' super excited about the RT this summer!

Here come a Three-Peater!

Gayle

Hi Maggie! Well you know the saying that you are only as strong as your weakest link. Based on what you wrote here it sounds as if your triceps could be the weak link here and therefore you are stronger in chest exercises that don't call upon them much at all.

Yes, hands down, STS will balance you out. You will hear me mention how certain exercises were sequenced to bring better balance to the overall involved muscle groups (especially in Meso 2).

Hi Kathryn! I'd like to say tomorrow :7 but I really need to seal one project up before projecting dates on another. The best information I can give you right now is that it is next in the line up of things to be filmed :7 I know, not the answer you were looking for...

Cathe-

We're all so excited, and appreciate any little bit of info you can share, but I am super curious about the music you will use and are having composed. Any chance of a little clip? I know you have tons of things to do - but can you tell us how it's going?

Ben

Hey there Three Peater! I like that :7 That means you get three extra hugs :7 Can't wait to see you again. Enjoy your dinner tonight.

Thanks, Cathe!!!!

Cathe:

Thank you for the advice. See you in July! :7

Hi Cathe!

I just wanted to say "Hi" and I am looking forward to meeting you in August! This will be my first Road Trip. I have been hanging out with you and the crew in my basement since Oct '07. You have helped me lose the weight that I gained after my hysterectomy. Thanks so much for all you do! :0)

Sorry sooo long!

My Question...can you send us Meso # 1 right away before you edit #2 & #3? J/K~I know what a nightmare that would be not to mention extra postage. How FUN it would be to be going at it before the RT!

BTW, I had your exact same lunch yesterday! MMMM is right!

Also, did you hear that you & I are in Fitness Magazine? It looks like they used a phone interview I gave a couple months ago. I haven't seen the article personally yet as the magazine doesn't come out til May 14th. unless you subscribe. Julie was reading the magazine the other day and said she got all excited when she saw your name mentioned so continued to read the article and her eyes popped out when she saw my name & city mentioned! :7 She said the last thing she expected was to see her MOM mentioned! Hope I did you proud in the article...I have no idea what they quoted me on yet. (Julie forgot to bring it along when I saw her) Have a great day Cathe!!!!

Hi Ben! I'm excited too. STS is so comprehensive and I'm confident you'll love it.

The music is being composed to match almost every move we make. While we are actually lifting (the duration of the set), it has a nice progressive and full bodied sound with a solid beat. While we are resting between sets, it eases off the solid beat but continues to play in the background to keep the energy and intensity flowing. The best way I can describe this is when watching an action movie. The music playing when a scene is serene is less bold, then when the scene builds with action/drama/suspense, the music reflects that. It is hard to say exactly what the style of music is because it is not one signature sound/style but rather a mix of a lot of sounds. When you are dealing with fluctuating rep speeds the way we are (ie: start the first 4 or 5 reps out at one speed and then naturally get a little slower because you are starting to fatigue) you can't lock into one set tempo to carry the whole series. That is why we are having the entire series composed from scratch.

Hope this helps!

RE: Sorry sooo long!

Hi Debbie! Did that article finally make it out? It seems like so many months ago they asked for some info. Thanks for letting me know. I'll go grab a copy and check it out. How exciting. Thanks for all your help with the piece too. High Five!

Hi Becca! Wow, it will be so fun to meet you :7 Can't wait. I just peeked at your family portrait and Oh My Gosh....you are all just simply adorable. Love the matching tops and radiant smiles. What a happy and healthy looking family :7 See you soon!
