Checkin 9-1-01

RE: Hi Rena

Thanks Rena.

First of all, I did 43 pushups with no rest and then did sets of 10 in various positions until I hit 103. And yes, they are always done on my toes.

I think quite a few people on this forum can do at least 40 pushups (and more) all at once. I think Cathe once said she had a contest with her husband and she did 65 and I think beat him. I have done as many as 50 a few times as well but I don't try it often enough to really improve the numbers.

How long did it take me to be able to do that many? I am not sure but I have been working out consistently for at least 4 or 5 years and doing pushup marathons every so often all throughout. When we were in elementary school, we used to have fitness tests that used flexed arm hangs, pushups, etc. to guage one's fitness and I always did quite well even then. (competitive - who me?)

One thing I will say is that I never feel my abs the next day as when I do the marathon pushup thing. That day, I also did planks later on for my ab work and I could sure feel my abs the next day. For the most part, I never get sore abs except when I do so many pushups in a row and so when I feel a need for a challenge or when I am away from home...

Personally, I think pushups are a really great way to improve strength and endurance in the arms, chest, lats, triceps, shoulders and let us not forget the core strength ab thing. Do as many as you can every few days and you will notice a big improvement. Be careful to use perfect form and do not let your back sag.

Sorry to go on so long.
