Checkin 1-26-02

RE: Brrrr cold where I live

Hi everyone

It is so cold where I live that it is probably incomphrensible to most of you. It is -40 Celcius this a.m. as I write this checkin. That happens to also be -40 Farenheit and that is where the two systems meet. Yuck.

Anyway, here was my week:

Monday - PS CST

Tuesday -Cardio Kicks

Wednesday - Rhymthic Step

Thursday - rest

Friday - PS SLA

Saturday - Happy Hour High Low

Sunday - unplanned rest. My hamstring was a bit sore from PS legs and so I decided to take Sunday off. I had full intentions of trying Step this Way but Monday or Tuesday will have to do.

The last time I did PS legs, I noticed my ham sore for a few days and then all of a sudden, it was fine again. That particular workout definitely twinges that old injury - perhaps challenging some scar tissue or something?

Stay warm people including those with "spring type" :) weather.

RE: Brrrr cold where I live

Sandi,

I guess I have a "naturally" bad back. I have had problems off and on for years. I would make an awkward move (and not even know when) and then I would walk crooked for a few days. Recently (the last 6 months) my back just kept getting worse and worse but I kept up my workouts just the same. It was a different kind of pain than I had had before. Not as intense but nagging. I maining felt it in certain movements like bending over or getting up from a chair or sitting down into a chair. It was getting so bad that it was affecting my workouts and I just couldn't ignore it anymore. I went to doctor and he gave me Celebrex which is expensive and did nothing for me. I decided to go to a chiropractor for the first time in my life. I have been seeing him for about two months now and he has helped me a lot. I stopped lifting weights also and I think that really helped also. I had stopped lifting for about 6 weeks and have just recently started back with EXTREMELY light weights. I still have minor discomfort and sitting for long periods of time aggravates it.

This tends to run in my family. My dad, mother and brother all have back problems. My daddy even have a herniated disc and had to have surgery. He continues to have a lot of problems. We are all tall so I don't know if that is a factor or not or if there is just something in the way we are put together that contributes to a weakness in the back.

I guess that was a very long answer to a simple question, huh? But when you have pain it tends to really be on your mind constantly. Thanks for asking!!!!!

RE: Brrrr cold where I live

Sandi,

Sorry I meant to tell you that I hoped you were feeling better as well as ALL of your family. That throwing up is horrible. A couple of years ago I had some kind of stomach virus and I thought I was going to die. I hope your family doesn't get anything like that again because even if the mother is sick guess you gets to take care of everyone else????

RE: Brrrr cold where I live

Hi, everybody! I haven't checked in in awhile. Still working out though. It's the racing season here in the desert Southwest and I am training to race about once a month starting in February. I turned 39 in December so this is my last shot before I enter the Masters age group. Those ladies kick some serious booty so I am gonna run like heck while I'm still a "youngster" LOL

Sunday 8.8 miles
Monday 5.7 miles and CTX Chest/Back
Tuesday Power Circuit and CTX Shoulders
Wednesday Sick day!
Thursday Power Circuit CTX Bis/Tris
Friday 4.1 miles (Intervals)
Saturday BodyMax

I've been thinking about your post today, 'cause it's been a little nippier than normal. At dusk, it was 50F, so a 110 degrees (F) warmer than your locale. I've had plenty of experience w/ 110 F so I'm stunned. You must bundle up like the Michelin man just to get to your car.

Now I'm trying to figure out why my Canadian next door neighbors are in jackets when I'm running around in shorts :-hmmm. Is Ottowa balmy?? I thought the city skated to work - on ice. They're probably just acclimated to So Cal- I've turned into a real cold weather wimp.

Take care of that hamstring. You've got a lot of time before your triathlon.
