Check-in 2/03/2001 a little early

I know I'm really late for the check-in but I was so proud of myself and my workouts that "better late than never"!

Monday: Cardio Kicks (haven't done this one in awhile and forgot how much I loved it!)
Tuesday: Yee's Power Yoga for Beginners (still up in the air on if I like this tape or not)
Wednesday: Circuit Max and Ab Work
Thursday: Body Max (Can't BELIEVE I was crazy enough to put this tape in the day after I did Circuit Max!!!)
Friday: CIA 9907 (Got my period but amazingly didn't have that exhausted feeling I usually get so didn't do my usual skipping of a workout)
Saturday: CTX Biceps/CTX Triceps (Decided to take it a bit easy after all those "Max" days)
Sunday: Leaner Legs and Abs

Hope all the sickies get better! "Been there, done that"...get lots of rest and treat yourselves well!

Hi Honeybunch,

I had some Smucker's raspberry preserves on toast this Sunday but I have to confess, underneath the preserves - BUTTER! But I could omit it cuz the preserves are so yummy - good idea!

My gram used to make what she called "navy bean" soup - it was good, just beans, ham and onions. I'll get the receipe from my mom. I have a favorite soup that I make with fresh green bean, ham and potatoes that I love. But I don't think green beans have the same fiber as those other kinds. I'll keep an eye out for the recipes! (The only bad thing about soup - I like bread and butter with it!)

RE: Hi Murph!

Hey. Cher's tape is an old 30 minutes step, 10 minutes ab, 30 minutes standing leg work--but relatively low impact that i use on a 'rest' day. I was surprised when I used 12 pounds on the Wedding Video weights (Cathe's using 5#)--it was tough enough.

Where are you?

They closed one of our mfg plants in Deerfield, Massachusetts today because of a snowstorm--are you near???

Oh My!!

Brandon is so beautiful!! What a lil' cutie-pie. I particularly liked the pix of "Safe in Daddy's Arm's". How precious. So glad he has arrived. It makes me more excited for my grandbaby to get here. Thanks, Trevor, for sharing him, Mom & Matthew with us. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Finally got in...

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-01 AT 05:46AM (Est)[p]Gosh, I couldn't load this dang forum the last couple of days.

This seems like ages ago when I posted last time and I was hot on figuring out how to work my PS strength into circuit work...well, I have an attention span of a flea and it didn't help that I was away for about a week to help mess up my schedule..so here goes...

week of Jan 22
Monday: Mindy's Medicine Ball workout A great conditioning tape..and very challenging on the legs..ABsolutely;O)..loved the abs section. I figured my week would be a bit screwy so this was a good way to get a little strength in right off the bat.

Tuesday: IMAX my once a month intensity check. Didn't do to bad considering how much I've slacked off in cardio over the Holidays. I also know, I'll never get my tuck jumps to look anywhere near Cathe and crew...yikes!

Wednesday: Precision Cycling really getting into this video, I hope Jay does another in a series.

Thursday: Was going to workout in am..but ran around getting last minute things packed to take to Dental Convention. Had grand plans of working out when we got there..after working all day and driving up there...NOT...Rest Day.

Friday: Grand plans again, I took my M&F Hers Circuit cards with me to try to stick to my circuit plan...oh well, left them in room and didn't go back for them. Great gym though..one of the best equipped gym I've seen in a hotel. Did a pretty good leg workout with free weights and machines. Jumped rope for 15 minutes..then had to race and get ready for morning class. PM 40min ride on elliptical trainer after classes/expo..and shopping;O).

Saturday: Gave up on planned circuit workouts and did CST routine similar to Cathes PS but using machines and weights..no cardio..getting tired.

Sunday: no ambition what so ever to get up and exercise before heading home. Got home, took clothes out and repacked to go back to work Monday for another trip up to Boston for different seminar(and YES, I gave my boss grief for this crazy schedule!).

This past week

Monday: Work all day..ride to Boston and stay at another hotel with your typical small workout room. 20 minutes on yucky treadmil to destress..not sure that treadmil helped;O).

Tuesday: PM-warm up on stepper..icky too, and then 20 minutes recumbent bike...probably the best piece of cardio there.

Wednesday: Rest Getting warn out..passed on AM anything..PM ride home again...:OP

Thursday: Worked all day and was going to pass on Kickboxing, but I really needed to get back into a regular routine..probably should have passed because I was beat.

Friday: Felt like I was coming down with a cold and knew I had better take it easy Rest

Saturday: Realizing a cold was not materializing and figuring the body was telling me enough already...took another rest day

Sunday: Back in the groove...PS B/Bi, complete with the abs.

Now, I just don't know what to do with my rotation, I might just stick with my tried and true favorite..PS, but I know I have to kick up the cardio...still might explore that circuit stuff, but I also know new tapes are coming from CIA soon and..thinking about getting other new tapes and then I'll be torn away from the circuit stuff...what's a vidiot to do! Also patiently waiting for PS on DVD...and a hint of the new tapes for this year from Cathe!!!

Hey Nanc!

Good to "see" you! Whew, you've been a busy traveler! At least you had access to some equipment. I'm also trying to figure out how to add the circuit workouts into my rotation. It's tough. I am doing a PS rotation now. I'd be interested in a brief review of Mindy's Medicine Ball Workout. Is there one somewhere that you know of already? Glad to hear you didn't get the flu or a cold that seems to be making it's rounds with everyone here. Stay healthy and BTW, I also have had a heck of a time getting into the forum the past couple of days.:-mad Wasn't sure if it was just me or not. TTYL and I ALSO can't wait for the PS on DVD!!!Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Debbie, that Medicine Ball workout

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-01 AT 05:37AM (Est)[p]I just tried to hunt down a review and didn't spot one...I guess I shouldn't complain..I could write one myself;-).

Briefly(off the top of my head!YIKES)- Mindy has you warm up with a lighter ball and you do some basic moves and stretches. Then you switch to a little heavier ball and do a bunch of squat variations and lunges. All the while you add various arm movements like curling the ball or pressing it over your head. The leg exercises are certainly enduranced based. She does this lunge series that really fatigues the old muscles and this one legged squat where she has you tap the ground with your finger is extemely challenging. She moves on to floor work and does similar leg exercises (if I recall;-)) as the leg/floor work in PS Legs..just holding the ball on leg instead of a bar. And the Ab work was pretty cool. Your typical crunches but then she has you do these twists by constantly moving the ball around you...you're sitting on the floor and placing it behind your back and then turning completely in the other direction to grab it, carry it around and place it there again. It was fun.

I'm kind of liking it as a lighter/full body workout in with a PS rotation. Do the PS series once, rest, then do this one, rest and start PS again. It's a great conditioning/endurance tape. I was pretty surprised at how heavy my 6 pound ball became towards the end of the tape LOL.

Hope that helps:)

Thank you Nancy!

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me such a thorough review of Mindy's tape. I really appreciate it! It sounds like a fun tape. I think I might just add it to my wish list of the other 100 tapes I want. :-wow One more quick question~When you say medicine ball, are we just talking the balls that are weighted? I have one called a BodyBall and it weighs 3 pounds. Would that work at first? Thanks for all your help & time.:D (P.S.Let me know what you think of the Spinerval tape you ordered when you get it. I was thinking of trying them also. Whew, they sound intense!!:-tired) Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

thanks from me too!

Hi Nancy,

I may have to start a file just for workout ideas from you! Loved your circuit training idea. Now that medicine ball workout sounds great & something my husband would like. I think he might enjoy Mindy. Pretty straight forward isn't she? I've seen some of the trainers where I spin use the medicine ball for ab work. They do what you describe, but sit back to back with their client & just rotate the ball around (changing direction occasionally).

My husband also asked if we "needed" a fitball for abs! So I've got to get up to speed on that too.

Looking forward to your comments on the Spinerval tape. I'm thinking about having a couple around for rainy days.

I picked up Yoga for Athletes this week. Isn't that another of your recommendations?

Debra

Debbie/Debra...

First, I can't take credit for all my ideas;-). I live at VF and here and I suck up all the info I can..not to mention a mishmash of Fitness Magazines/Books and internet trivia...as the sig reads...Fitness Nut;-). So, much of my stuff is gathered from everyone else! LOL..but glad I can pass it on.

Debbie, I bet you could use that ball. When I did that workout, I had the company of my exercise buddy, Wendy, and she used my old Karen Voight pink ball. It might weigh 2 pounds and then she held a 5 lb dumbell for the squats and stuff that she felt she needed more weight. She kept eyeballing my medicine ball during the workout. But she got the old "talk to the hand" sign...'cause I wasn't sharing;-).

You might even find that the 3lb is fine for sometime. Mindy actually warms up with a 4 lb ball. let me warn you, if you haven't shopped for a medicine ball yet, they aren't cheap. I went with the 6lb ball hoping to compromise and use it for a while instead of trying to get 3 different sizes. So I'm going heavy on the warm up and ligher on the exercises that she switches to the 8 pounder for. But trust me, there is enough athletic endurance stuff in there that if you wanted more weight, you could switch to a dumbell..or not;-).

And Debra, funny, as I read about those Spinerval tapes..I thought of you! If I can make my way to the computer after trying it out, I'll certainly let you both know! I went with the long one...trying to get my moneys worth;-)...and I was also intrigued with how they incorporated some circuit stuff in it by having you dismount in the middle and do squats...the little intensity junkie in me was screaming...buy it! It will probably kill me LOL!
I think your husband would love Mindy. She's extremely down to earth, has a great sense of humor and is a no nonsense kind of gal. Her moves are also athletic..which guys seem to like. She also makes quite a few ball jokes in it LOL!

Debra, do you have Mindys cycling tape? It's pretty good too. Your husband would probably love it. She only has two back ground people and one is male and obviously a seasoned rider. Mindy herself is a big time cyclist. She lives out in California..not sure how close she is to you, but she is very personable to VFers that email her...if you happen to be close to her, I bet you could hook up and take a live class.

OK..chatted long enough. I hope to get that spin tape this week sometime...I'll keep you guys posted:).

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!!

You're so kind to take the time!! That Spinervals tape sounds like a killer~Just the kind of workout I LIKE!! If we can get thru IMax, (which I lived thru today) we can attempt anything! I don't even have a bike yet! YIKES!! Another thing on my "Wish-List". My hubby made a comment on possibly getting a spinning bike this past week :D but now I'm wondering if we should get a bike trainer instead?? Hmmm, I'm not sure what to do. I'll be waiting for your review. THANKS, Nanc!!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)
