Changing your taste buds.

I was just thinking, as I was sitting here eating my oatmeal with ground flax seed (my new all time favorite breakfast) that my taste buds have changed INCREDIBLY over the past few years.

I began eating fruit (banana, strawberries, grapes, oranges, watermelon) on a regular basis about 5 years ago when I started weight watchers. Up until then, it was only an occassional apple. For me, it wasn't the taste, but the TEXTURE that bothered me. Once I got past that simply by making myself eat something, I began LOVING fruit.

Up until about 2 months ago, had only eaten oatmeal ONCE! But on the suggestion of a trainer I began eating oatmeal about 6 weeks ago and now just LOVE it. Add in 2T ground flax seed and it's OH SO YUMMY!

I've added in all kinds of new (to me anyway) veggies over the past 5 years also...rutabaga, cucumber, squash, etc.

Anybody else change their taste buds??? Just curious!

Definitely. I thought when I went on vacation a few weeks ago that I'd go hogwild and eat all the stuff I have been cutting out of my diet. Instead I found myself missing things like my yogurt, my tomato-mozzarella lunches, cranberry/goat cheese salads and my soy powder drink. That was weird.

Oh yeah!!! I find things that are too salty or too sweet just aren't appealing to me anymore. I love my oatmeal w/ flax also! I could eat fresh veggies & fruits all of the time, any kind!

I have a friend that is *texture-challenged* and won't eat yogurt, cott. cheese, oatmeal, peanut butter.... all foods I couldn't live w/out!!

Enjoy your yummy oatmeal!

Yes! Even things like cutting back on salt has forever changed my taste buds. I am so sensitive to salt now that I almost can't stand to eat out. It's not that I don't like salt -- I do and I still use it -- but I only like a little pinch. And I used to hate yogurt but it's become a staple in my diet.

BTW, I LOVE my oatmeal with ground flaxseeds. I also add chopped walnuts, frozen wild blueberries, about a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and cinnamon. :9

I crave veggies! Everyday. I seriously can eat pounds of broccoli, green beans, anything green really. The only veggies I do not like are eggplant and carrots...unless they are steamed really well.

When I am really strict about cutting back sugar I find that all of my food tasted better!

Okay...I aspire!

My tastes are SLOWLY changing. I used to HATE all fruits and veggies. Today I eat watermelon, cantalope and pineapple regularly. Still can't do apples or pears or oranges. I will now eat yogurt, which I couldn't even look at last year.

I still don't eat any veggies except peas. I would love it if I ate more veggies. I am really trying to eat a clean diet, but it is so hard when I am "texturally challenged" (I like that expression!!)

Any tips on how to eat more of these healthy things (My DH LOVES spinach, but I can't even picture putting it in my mouth!!)?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated...like I said...I aspire!!!

My tastebuds have definitley changed a lot.

I used to hate 'dark' breads, and loved white bread. Now the texture of it (except for homemade, or French baguette-type bread) makes me gag.

In high school and a bit beyond, I was pretty much addicted to Pepsi. Then I gave it up after I read about how it contained theobromine, which is like caffeine. A couple of years later, I tried it again, and I thought it tasted horrible: very artificial, too sweet, yuk!

I also find some things I used to like (chips and such) too salty most of the time.

The first time I tasted lima beans (in a succotash dish), I thought they were pretty bad. Since the Seventh-Day Adventist restaurant I liked to eat at served succotash with several of their dishes, I tried them a couple more times, and by the third time, I actually really liked lima beans.

I also have more of a tolerance for more bitter things, like some greens, and tea.
