Challenging pilates dvd or video

Hi all:

I've been watching some pilates on Fit TV and there's one woman instructor who is really in great shape. A couple of times, I've followed her ab moves and wow, I really felt it. I would love to get a challenging pilates dvd or video, but don't know what instructors are good in the genre. Does anyone have any recommendations on an instructor or dvd/video to buy? I'd like something tough similar to Cathe workouts.

from what i have been told stott pilates is pretty challenging. in fact most of their dvds are labled at what levels are most difficult. i am not to advanced at pilates myself so i have never used them. i did find caribbean workout pilates which i would label beginner/intermediate. anything with michelle dozios and tracy york are pretty challenging. breakthru pilates, breakthru pilates plus, and breakthru pilates sculpt are the only ones i know of but they may have more. hope this helps.

Stott is OK, but truthfully I find her style boring & un-motivating.

My two favorites are the MTV Mix (Kristen McGee) and Body Target Pilates/Yoga for Abs (Anna Caban/Rodney Yee). The MTV Mix is very creative & great fun, not to mention challenging. The Body Target DVD is a bit shorter (about 20 minutes each section after you get through all the stupid intro talking by the instructors), but I was pleasantly surprised to actually feel sore the next day.

Good luck!

I agree with MTV pilates mix. I also really like Rael system 27 for an advanced workout. You can also purchase Pilates Abs workout w/ Ana Caban on it's own w/out Rodney Yee's portion.

I personally like Stott, but I don't find her workouts as challenging as the two listed above.

Personally, I love Stott.....I have MTV pilates...I have Ana Caban...I have also Rael Pilates and so many others..heck, I could give you a list a mile long of Pilates DVDs I really enjoy and appreciate, but if you want a good core workout with "true precision" and "form" nothing beats a Stott Pilates workout "done correctly!!" If you didn'f feel it...I know you didn't do the movement right!! I don't have a 6 pack "at my age" for no reason!!

JMHO,
Robin:)

The only suggestion I have is the same Pilates suggestion I always have- you can check them out from netflix. I know they have Stott. I couldn't handle any of the ones I tried, I'm not a Pilates fan myself. I tried! But it didn't work. HTH anyway!

Oh yes...Pilates is definitely not for everyone....and yes, Moira Stott is definitely "dry" and "boring," but I have found her more advanced DVDs hit the exercise mark for a good Pilates workout (but not entertaining).

hi,

i have to agree with lauramax and robin. :)

i have both (mtv pilates mix, and stott pilates) based on similar rec's i got here a few weeks ago (thanks 'educated crowd'!! :D ) ... i find i use the pilates mix the most. (it has really interesting exercises that you DO feel the next day) but stott is great in her technical explanations and approach (but it is a bit long).

all in all, i've been pleasantly surprised with kristin mcgee's videos. in fact, i've preordered her upcoming power yoga vid as well!

good luck! hth a little!

I like Karen voight pilates with a resista ring.
It is tough and you feel it and you don't need a machine.
I for one have run out of room unless i get rid of my basement furniture.
I have already taken over the whole room.
I put my husband in the other basement rooms.
