I like Lori started out small. I added miles and built endurance. Ive been running for awhile now. But I became very serious about it I would say last 8months or so. Currently I'm following a running schedule. I'm doing this to build endurance and speed. I know I have a half marathon in me and possible marathon. I just need to keep the positive mind going If you want I can email you more info. Becca asked me a few weeks ago-- and I emailed her the same stuff.
Trust me --- If I can do this so can you. I'm pasting what I emailed to Becca. If you want further info please feel free to email me.
My first run was in 2001. I have the race posted on the wall with my bib number. I came in DEAD LAST. I kid you not. It was a fun run for charity. All three of my kids did it with me. My son walked and BEAT me. My oldest was on the high school cross country team and well--yes she kicked butt. My youngest was very new to running and stayed with me till she said "MOM I think you are last" She blew way ahead of me. When she informed me I was last my thought was ok-- I'm going straight to the parking lot. As I got closer to the parking lot, I could see the finish line with the clock. I decided then--you entered this--now finish it. To this day this is the race I remember Everyone cheered me on. I was hooked. I ran after that. But never pushing myself hard enough. I'm like all us moms..I always put the kids and hubby first. That meant my workouts came last. In 2004 I entered another 5K. I placed in my age group. Go figure. Came in third. So I knew I could always do it. My life got busy again and running went on the back burner. Then last year I was on the trail-- doing a small run. Always thinking I CAN'T GO further. A girl who also runs stopped me and asked "Do you do some other workout?" I didn't know what to say . My thought was "OH I must look foolish" But she said "I noticed you running and how your body has changed--you have the most amazing legs--I told my husband I want your legs. That's why I run now" I didn't know what to say-- I decided then enough with the negative self talk. DO THIS.
So here I am. I just finished the 12 week running schedule for a 10K. MY buddy told me to start a new 16 week one for a half. He said I have the legs to do and drive. So I'm hooked. IM spoiled that my mornings are free. My kids are older and I now make sure I put me first --well sometimes Old habits die hard.
But I know I can do this-- so this spring and summer I'm hitting some 5Ks and hoping for a 10K. This fall there is a half and who knows maybe after this new 16 week schedule Ill be crazy enough to do one
Feel free to ask away.
