Cats....why do they DO that???

I'm just sitting here reading people's posts and out of nowhere, one of my ladies pushes a glass of water off the table onto the rug. It falls, it spills, she looks at me as if to say, "so?" And why does it amuse me instead of making me mad? I just cleaned the room! Could be worse...it could be red wine...oh wait no...there's never any wine in the glass long enough for it to be knocked over.

Cats are funny like that. They look at you like "what, I didn't do anything wrong". :D Gotta love em.

HA! Gotta love it!! Yup, they do it because they are cats and they can! The nerve of these little rascals! I'm with you though, I pretty much laugh at ANYTHING they do, even the destructive stuff! :) They never cease to amuse me!!

(My three are currently sleeping like little "angels") ;)

The words "little angels" and cats, don't go together. ;):D

We call it "testing gravity." Our cat, Ripley, won't do something like that for the longest time and then one day it's like he says, "hmmm...I wonder if gravity still works? Yep, sure does."

My one little girl CANNOT handle having ANYTHING close to the edge of a table or counter... she MUST knock it off. It is so cute; we tease her and put bottle caps, etc on the edge just to see how quickly she can knock them off!! :p

You should see both of them with our Christmas village, though... yikes!!! Graciezilla and the Georginator!!!

I know! My one cat just walks up on a table, seemingly picks out the thing that I guess annoys him, and just knocks it right off. Then looks at me as to say, "Yup I did that, and I'll do it again!" Cracks me up every time.

The same cat also obsessively bats around the water bowl, I had to duct tape it to the floor, if I don't he spills all the water out of it. And my black one likes to drop toys in the water bowl, our cat sitters got a kick out of that one. It makes me laugh the most when she drops in the red fish toy.

Cats are such amazing creatures. I used to have a cat that dropped those furry little mice toys in her water bowl. I had a ton of them around for her to play with and sometimes I would get home from work and there would be 3-4 of them in the bowl. My girl, Princess, that I have now - is so un-catlike. She doesn't do anything like that. She is quirky though - she will only drink water out of a short glass on my nightstand (there is water in her bowl downstairs, but she won't drink from the bowl), she pulls the covers off of me when she thinks it is time for me to wake up (usually by 5 am), and she always tells me when she has done #2 in the litter box and insists I clean it out IMMEDIATELY! And of course, I do!

As a relatively new cat person (formerly had just dog companions), the whole gravity thing is fascinating. I leave things on the edge of my bedside table (bottle caps,a nail file, hair pins) just for my cat to push over during the night.

I thought she was the reincarnation of Sir Isaac Newton until I learned that the whole fascination with gravity is common cat behavior. And of course I completely indulge her!:p

fetching cat!

I used to have a tabby kitty that would fetch! I had one of those badmitten type balls with the feathers... Sam proceeded to chew off most of those, but one morning as she was trying to get me up, she brought this stupid toy in and dropped it on my forehead! so I got a little miffed and threw it out the door... she promptly tore after it and brought it back to me and drop it on my forehead again... and that began the fetching cat routine.. she LOVED pennies too... it was the funniest thing... you could be standing all alone in the other end of the house and rub two pennies together and she would come running! she figured out how to get those flat things off the floor and bring it back...

Apparently it is a trait I project, as my aussie is a fetching fool as well!

Our cats drink from a glass on the night stand too. I blame DH for getting them into that habit. He always has a glass of water on his night stand (that he never drinks) Since the cats always drank from it he started using a tall glass for himself and a short one for them. At least they use theirs.

ewwww  hope he never gets a cough in the middle of the night and reaches for the wrong glass!!

I also had a cat when I was a kid that would only drink out of the sink in the bathroom... we would have to turn on the faucet a but, he'd drink, and be done... Funny what you remember about things when you read stories from others! ;)

I have a boy who wants what he wants when he wants it and if he doesn't get it immediately he punishes me. If he wants out I better let him out RIGHT NOW or he begins exhibiting a gallery of behaviors to drive me up the wall. If he happens to want out at 4am I better get up or he will torment me so I can't sleep. Sometimes, I may be busy doing something during the daytime but if he wants out and I don't drop everything right at that moment he will back his butt up to the wall, look directly at me with "I WARNED you" in his eyes, and spray, sending me into a predictable panic. Needless to say, he has me totally trained because, when I see his warning prance I move as fast as I can to the front door! I once read in a cat training book that cats don't do these things to punish you but the author never met Tangerine. The Little King LIVES for power and control. He's a real jerk. Yet, when he lies out across my bed in the night (the wrong way, of course), and beeps and squeaks while stretching his long, slender body, he's so darn cute I have no choice but to forgive him his trespasses. I don't dare touch him, though. He bites hard.

I once walked in on my cat, Ace, very matter-of-factly licking my husband's toothbrush! That cat LOVES anything mint. And every morning, Murphy follows me into the bathroom so he can drink out of the bathtub faucet. He'll sit under there just waiting for me to turn it on to the 'right' amount of water trickle. We once got him one of those cat dishes where the water flowed into it, thinking that he'd love it, but nope, it just didn't have the same thrill as drinking out of the tub! :D
