Cathe, question re: circuit training if you can make a wee break from filming...

Hi Cathe,

As of late, I have discovered that I love circuit training workouts. Boot Camp is now my favourite fun workout of all time! But I have to admit, I'm not sure what the goal of circuit workouts is - what it is I am trying to accomplish when I do them; is it:

  • strength (we don't really seem to do heavy muscle building);
  • cardio (cardio is involved, but it seems that we deliberately lower the heartrate for the strength segments);
  • straight up calorie burning (this seems like it makes the most sense); or
  • a little bit of everything all in one, but no major focus in any particular fitness area

I was also wondering if EPOC is increased or decreased during circuit workouts (in comparison with strength or cardio workouts).

Thanks for all the sweat, pain, grunts, moans and awesome muscles!

Great post, Morningstar. I really would like to know Cathe's response to this. I hope she has time to answer.

Here's another plea for Cathe to answer this one! I also love circuit workouts, and my body responds well to them, but I'd like to know the "science" behind them!

I think of it as a strength workout. I do tend to feel toasty after circuits though.
