Cathe, is your husband on board for STS?

I was just wondering if you got your husband on board for the STS challenge? Are your siblings if any into being fit and healthy? I myself try so hard to get my mother to really make fitness a part of her life. She just does not see the importance of being fit and getting herself to a healthy weight.

Thanks,
Christie

Hi Christie! Yes, I try hard to keep my whole family active but this time of year they prefer to workout outdoors. The kids are active in sports year round and I do little mini fun-based boot camp workouts with them here at the gym once a week. They also love to show off to their friends how great they are at push ups :D

I understand what you are saying about your mother. It is hard to get our parents to change their habits. Over the years I have made some progress with my mother. She understands the importance of exercise and healthier eating, but I think she could do a little better with keeping faithful to her workouts ;)

Take Care,
Cathe

My problem is that my other sister (not Jolene, obviously!) hasn't committed to a healthy lifestyle and it's starting to worry me. I think she looks at my sister and I (we are triplets) and is frustrated that she has a lot of work ahead of her to get healthy and fit...but what she still doesn't realize is that we work hard at it everyday, she seems to think (at least that's my impression) that it's been easy for us, though it definitely has not been! Those Cathe workouts are ridiculous! The hard part is, I don't think she sees a light at the end of the tunnel and doesn't know where to start. I really want to help her "get there" but I don't know what to do/say that won't make her feel like I'm being pushy but will motivate her to start making some changes.

Any advice Cathe? I'd love your thoughts. Thank you!

my parents and my mom especially have no interest in healthy eating and fitness... I can't think of anyone in my family that is actually, it's sad at times because my mom could benefit from a healthier lifestyle and eating less of the fatty fast foods and I worry about losing her too soon.

I sometimes wonder where I get so much interest to workout, fitness, and to try eating cleaner foods.

My parents eat better than when I was growing up and they walk regularly, but what I find frustrating is the peer pressure among the seniors! A few years ago, my Mom got down to 115 lbs. Now this is a woman who NEVER weighed more than 100 lbs until her third pregnancy. She's 4'9". All her friends and my Dad started telling her at 115 that she was getting too thin. She could easily get down to 100-105 and still be at a healthy weight. So, her reaction was to just throw up her hands and gain back 10-15 lbs. At that point, I gave up giving any pointers, because it wasn't me she was going to listen to.

My parents have always been pretty trim and active but they are not folks who set aside time each day to exercise. They just eat right and do the things they've always done: yardwork, gardening, and housework. As they have gotten older, they have cut back on how much they eat and somewhat on what they eat. I try to live, eating wise, by their example.

I am the middle daughter of three girls. Both my older and younger sister have struggled with their weight throughout their adult lives. I got my younger sister hooked on Cathe last year. Through a combination of diet and exercise, she has lost 50 pounds over the past 15 months. This past Christmas, my 13-year old niece (daughter of my older sister) tells me that her mommy is upset because "she is the fat sister." My younger sister and I never say anything mean to my older sister about her weight but we do encourage her to exercise and we talk about our Cathe workouts all the time. Well, I guess we finally provided inspiration because my older sister started an exercise program and a diet at the beginning of this year and has lost 28 pounds. Everyone is healthier and happier.

I believe people have to come to a healthier lifestyle of their own volition. The old adage holds: you can lead a horse to water (sometimes), but you can't make them drink.
