Cathe, is CPR certifcation required for teaching??

Cathlete
Or does it depend on the facility I would be teaching at?? Just curious. I think it best that I get CPR certified regardless of the requirement issue, what do you think??

Jerry

Not Cathe, but it depends on the certification AND the facility you teach at. Yes, I think that you should be cpr certified regardless, but you'll probably be required to show proof of CPR certification in order to be certified to teach fitness classes. Every organization I've gotten certified to teach through has required proof of CPR cert.

Many fitness centers also just assume that if you are certified to teach, then you are CPR certified to they don't require proof. Some do want proof.

Thaks, Allison, that's kind of what I thought.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have the certification, required or not.

Jerry, it's one of the smartest things you can do with 6 or 8 hours of your life. The first time I got CPR certified was when I was working with children at church (not required, but I felt it was a good thing). The second time was a renewal of that. Even though I don't teach Tae Bo any more I will always renew it...it is such a good skill to know.

Also not Cathe, but, just fyi, most of the major fitness certifications that gyms require trainers to have (ACE, AFAA, NASM, etc.) require CPR certification. And most of these organizations require that your CPR training be kept current in order to remain certified.

For example, I'm ACE certified as a personal trainer, but in order to renew my ACE certification every two years, I must show proof that I have up-to-date CPR certification. So I basically have to take a CPR course every year or two, in order to remain ACE-certified.

More important than all of that, I find, is the peace of mind in just knowing I have the basic skills to help a client in the event that help is ever needed.:)

Thanks 4 all of these responses, I was actually certified a few years ago, and let it lapse. I'm going to get it this time and keep it active.
