Cathe in real life...

Hi again Wayne! Cathe looks more muscular b/c she's working her muscles as opposed to just relaxing the muscles. That's the difference. When I'm working out certain veins on my arms pop out but when I'm not flexing or working out the veins aren't as pronounced. Also I notice my skin having a pink color. My DH can't stand to look at my arms when the veins have popped out. They only pop out on my forearms btw. He makes a face that he's disgusted. It doesn't bother me that he makes a face. Women are put off by the muscular look. Most of them just want to look toned. JMO, Kathy

Completley nothing wrong with disagreeing. But thanks for pointing that out Timber. Be a dull world if not, eh.
However if you look at the Cathe site a little harder (from the past) you'll see other photos of her with more "arm" etc... showing and you'll see what i mean.
I base this on something else i once say. Karen Voight. Anyone remember her older workouts. She was as LEAN as you could get. Scary. Anyway when i met her in real life she was very slim, but not that SCARY LEAN on her videos. And having appeared on camera before i know how it does add pounds. So this is also what i'm basing my discussion on.

Funny Wayne, now that you mention it Karen does (did?) have a similar body type as Cathe. I have her one video, Pure & Simple Stretch (which bores the crap out of me BTW, but that's another story), & in the pic on the cover she looks just awesome.

Hey, I have vein poppage on my forearms all the time. More when I'm lifting, but still 24/7. I like the way it looks. I mean, my arms, wrists & hands are slim. I don't think the veins take away from the femininity. JMO.

I completely agree with you Max. Karen did/does look fantastic, and i know many a woman that is vascular (like yourself) and to me, are just lovely as is. Plus is a good sign of low bodyfat, which is always bonus, right!

Kathy, don't know why he'd be disgusted with the veiny look. To each his own, I guess. I personally, from the time I was in grade school, loved the look of veins on guys. I've got ropes of veins on my hands and feet and the ones in my arms are just barely under the surface, however since working out, the ones in my upper arms are starting to bulge. Maybe someday...

My take on this thread and after viewing the pictures again is that she's (Cathe) just plain covered up, not much really shows, and she's not flexing or working.

I know a couple of people who've met Cathe and they've said (this was before Hardcore, mind you) that she doesn't look as muscular when she's not filming, that she's very tiny, and that she loves to eat!

I agree with the above poster that mentioned the Bowflex woman. Now her look is extremely unrealistic!

I'm not too concerned that Cathe's "look" may turn people off. As others have mentioned, if her look is a turnoff to them, they probably never had any interest in working out to the degree Cathe does. And that's just fine with me! Besides, judging from the amount of people who've discovered her on FitTV, I don't that it's a problem!;-)

Well, of course she's not going to look as pumped when she's just hanging out. But you can't really tell how cut she is because of what she's wearing.

Hi Wayne!! Glad to see you around. IMHO She does look smaller in person then on video but I was looking closely at her arms and she was very tone. She looks like an average healthy petite (sp)in person. And she really looks a lot younger then 40 years old. So I guess her hard work paid off. Like everyone said she was wearing a t-shirt and baggy pants. I do understand what your saying:) Another thing that got me was she does look a lot younger in person but I guess it's because she was dress so comfy and had hardly or no make-up. HTH:)

There was recently an article in Oxygen magazine that not only explained but showed pictures proving that fitness competitors don't look anything like they do at a competition or for a photo shoot the rest of the year. They simply look like normal healthy people. When they prepare for a competition they change their diets and exercise routines starting 6 to 12 weeks prior and they change everything from their water and salt intake to their supplementation all the way up till minutes before the competition. Cathe has explained several times before that she also changes her food intake and exercise routine prior to shooting her videos. People don't generally walk around on a daily basis looking as cut as Cathe does in her videos.

Part of me wants to say "what difference does it make what she looks like on-camera versus off-camera?" I like that she looks as fit as she does in her videos because I find it inspiring. I have no illusions that I will ever look as cut as her and it really doesn't matter. Her videos have helped me to look good and feel good about myself. I have no doubt that she probably looks more like a "real person" when she's not training for a video, but I'm sure she still works out and maintains a certain level of muscle mass. And quite frankly, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it......

Sorry if I sound crabby....

To start with, I love the way Cathe looks, but more than that, I love her personality. It doesn't matter if she looks like she could kick my butt into next year - she is so down to earth and 'real' that, by the end of a workout, I've forgotten how different she and I are physically and just feel really good about what I've accomplished. To me, that means more than how she looks - IRL or in video.

That being said, I once tried to share the joy of a good Cathe workout with a co-worker and, yes, she was intimidated. She said she didn't even try it - she just previewed the first 15 minutes and that Cathe 'scared' her I was laughing when she said that, but she meant it. So, to each her own. I do wish that I had someone nearby who was lovin' Cathe as much as I do. I need a workout buddy - and someone to split the cost of a DVD bundle with!! :) Maybe someday!

I was incredibly scared when I did my first Cathe video. It was a huge step (no pun intended) up in intensity for me. I was afraid I wouldn't make it through (and I didn't). I was immediately caught up in her personality, after all the video instructors I had seen, she was the most animated and encouraging (without being annoying). Her cueing is perfect, her workouts are educational, and her choice of workout mates reflects realistic women. I have been hooked ever since and you would not believe the difference in my body and my stamina. My DH has been in awe of Cathe since the first time he saw one of her workouts. He says he could never do them (he couldn't).

BTW, when I go to a gym, no one ever has to correct my form, thanks to Cathe.
