i just posted in open forum about a special camp that helps children with developmental disorders. my daughter is austic. but every week they took them to karate class. being viola is a little nervous around male strangers, this guy had a bit of an issue working with her. DH told him about my kickboxing workouts, and then he started saying "exercise like mommy" and that got her to come around. hopefully this pic loads up for you, as acatlina said, catheite in the making. :)

I am not Cathe, but I want to tell you how cool that is. I am sure Cathe will be touched to see this.

Thanks for sharing!

I really do hope that Cathe sees this too! I know that I was touched. You might email it to her directly.

thannk you arwen and welcome to the boards. this camp is funded by united way so maybe they do something in your area just like it. they offer scholarships too so you don't have to pay the full amount for the camp if you can't. its been a real lifesaver since we discovered it. she will be going back until she is too old to go anymore LOL.

Just wanted to give a shout out to everyone who loves someone w/ autism. My oldest, Ben, is autistic and turning 21 in April.
Viola is beautiful!

Ben is doing pretty well, thank God. It's been a long strange trip. Kids are getting diagnosed and svcs. so much quicker now. He's living in a group home 15 min. away from us and comes home often. Will be transitioning out of school into a work program this summer. He has a younger brother and sister and I think having siblings has helped him a great deal. Many things are overwhelming for him, but he has a dry sense of humor, loves music. He's come much further since he's moved out than he would have had he stayed home. He goes to dances, out to eat, bowling, shopping. It's still a negotiation when he's home to get him to come anywhere w/ us!

i agree but some things are still in the works. we are still on a waiting list for a waiver to help with nursing and therapies. it goes by numbers not so much the need unless you apply for emergency waiver so that is hard to wait on it when others may need it more then you or you need it more then others. fingers crossed and we are blessed to have some sort coverage for docs and therapist and we have a great school that provides in school thereapies.

bumping b/c admist all the commotion i really want to share this moment with cathe and all of you. :D

i am not sure if many understand austim, but my child, years ago, would the one in the corner that only whined or screamed and could never talk(and they didn't think she would communicate with the world) would constantly rock and lines things up and throw fits with loud noises and bright lights. today she is sits in mainstream class, can read sooooo well, and knows her way around a computer pretty good. i am not trying to be attention getter but i just want everyone to see how things like exercise helped my daughter in her therapies and when working at home cathe was much of influence on viola as i have been. and i just want to give some praise and ahare this. thank you! :)

Kassia,

I'm really sad your post was lost within the petty posts. I for one did not see it until now.

I am smiling while sharing your thrill and happy tears of this special moment. As a parent it really does make your heart skip a beat when things "click", doesn't it?

Although my 2 autistic sons are very verbal --HFA and Asperger's-- I understand the trials and tribulations for an autistic child. I also understand the joys and blessings. Give Violet a hug for me. She's precious.

Awe Kassia this post just brought immediate tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing Viola's (such a beautiful name too) wonderful accomplishment with me. Please give her a great big hug from me. So precious!

awe cathe, thinking of you tearing up is tearing me up, i will sure to let her know she is getting a big hug from "mrs. mommy's exercise". not sure if we could handle this without some tough workouts from you.
