Cathe DVDs on ebay?

I just bought the hardcore extreme DVD on ebay and the sellers feedback was great, but I noticed they were selling a lot of the same DVDs over and over described at "used" I am now wondering it they are copies. I figured someone would have left a negative stating that at some point if they were copies, but over 1000 feedback and no negatives saying they are copies. How can one person ahve that many "used" copies? Anyone buy from ebay and what was your experience? It's a done deal now since I have paid so I will see what I get. How can I tell if it is a copy?

I'm sure there's some "techie" way you can tell it's a copy, but even if it is, there's nothing you can do about it, really. Someone selling 1000's of "used" DVDs is most definately making copies. It's so easy to do nowadays. It's very hard to go after someone on Ebay for this sort of thing, but you can certainly try.

And the reason the seller probably doesn't have any negatives is because the buyer, if they realize it's a copy, is hesitant to report them in fear of negative feedback themeselves. If I, as a buyer, only have 20 positve feedback reports, but a seller has 2000 positives, who do you think Ebay is going to beleive? It stinks, but it's how it is. :-(

PS: My sister got an exercise DVD from Ebay, and it was a copy. She was furious, but again, not much she could do. In this situation, maybe email Cathe herself and let her know. SHE would be able to do something about it, because she and her company are losing big bucks to dirtbags like this. All it takes is a lawyer to step in.... ;)

Thanks. I will contact cathe if I receive it and it looks funny. Some of the DVDs this person is selling are new in package, but w/ the workouts they say used, but when I look at the feedback they are all used so really how many times can on person "use" the same workout on diffrent DVDs. x( I wish I could have afforded to just buy it from this site. I am certainly not afraid to post a negative if I have too. I just don't know why someone would do this sort of thing. Maybe I am naive or just dumb, but if I can't earn money the honest way I don't want it.

Trish, you can tell if it's a copied DVD by looking at the bottom of the DVD - if it's plain silver, it's probably the real thing. If it's a purplish color, then it's probably a copy (compare it with one of your real DVDs to be sure - the difference will be obvious if it's a copy). Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, that will only work sometimes. A lot of our DVDs are illegally replicated in China on real stamper machines similar to what SONY uses. Usually the bootleggers will take a dual layered disc and compress it so it fits on a single layered disc. This, of course, results in poor picture and audio quality.
Other bootleggers will burn copies of our disc and in this case they quite often will have a purple look to them, but not always. If you think you have received an illegal copy please email us with the Ebay users account name.

I, too, think I just bought a copy. I went on ebay to check the items in 'watching' and saw that there was less than a minute on one that I've been wanting so I made a quick bid, but as soon as I did I remembered there was one seller I was really leary of and sure enough it was that seller, and of course I won it, darn it:) I would mention the seller name but could I get in trouble if she turned out legitimate? I don't want to slander anyone. Anyway, I haven't received it yet, but kind of anxious to get it just to see. The reason I am leary is because she/he never responded to my questions about it being a copy, not even an untruthful denial :) And the first time I made a bid for an item and lost she gave me a second chance bid which looked legitimate but then I noticed she had a lot of the same items for sale. So who knows? It's a shame that people like to defraud others like that. Hopefully, I am wrong and it's an authentic dvd. I'll let you know.

The Ebay seller will never know who turned them in. We have have an arrangement with Ebay that allows us to remove anyone selling our products on Ebay who we feel is selling illegal copies. The only way to stop illegal copies is for customers to let us know.

I will def. email you if I get mine nad it's not legit. I might email you the user name anyway just so you can see. I saw they had a few negatives and so I went back all the way though 30 pages of feedbak to see what the negatives were for. None of them were for DVDs, but in going back so many pages I noticed that they had the same 5 or so DVDs over and over again. Then the fact that they all say "used" makes me wonder because how can one person use them? I would say if they were all diffrent DVDs that is one thing, but the same one over and over? Just seemed fishy.

If you watch, they are quite open about it, like a drug dealer in front of city hall. How many used copies sans DVD cases can one really have of Rhythmic Step and SS Push Pull? Hmmmmmm I'm no Detective Briscoe but.... The Timesaver is also a fraud favorite, springing up for sale every day and the seller make little attempt, if any to change up their identity. There are legit seller but one has to do a bit of "lazy reconn" to find out who they are...or are not,

Well, even the best of us gets duped so don't feel bad. I am just really surprised that these sellers, who conduct themselves so openly, continue to get away with it.

I've had a bit of trouble with counterfeit DVDs on eBay--a couple that Beavs mentioned, in fact. I couldn't tell at first just looking at the DVD, but when I played it, the quality seemed off--something not quite right and the picture just slightly jumpy. One of them, though, had a white cover (though the picture was the same as Cathe's) when all the Cathe DVDs had black covers. I sent a message to the seller saying I suspected it was not authentic and he immediately gave me a full refund.

I have to admit I only gave him a neutral and not a negative feedback; wish I hadn't been wimpy about that, but I was glad he'd refunded. If he hadn't refunded, it definitely would have been a negative.

But like Beavs said, there are some good sellers (I even sell my used workout DVDs on eBay from time to time, and I know I'm good ;)), but you have to be careful.

Oh no Beavs,
Timesaver is the one that I bought in too much of a hurry (darn ebay countdown clock)}(
I'm pretty sure it will be a copy. My bad. So if it does end up a copy who exactly do I notify, ebay, the Cathe people? Crazy cheats. I have better things to do with my time x(

My husband works in video production at home, and has made a couple film shorts. Let me tell you, it is a snap to make a copy DVD look like just an original, "new in box". You can buy the DVD covers that are just like what the movie companies use, then shrink wrap them, etc. They look 100% legit.

I'm a graphic artist, and I designed the cover for his film short. The quality of the DVD in the box looks JUST as good as everything else on our movie shelf.

I will never buy DVD off eBay, unless the price was SO low, if it turned out to be a copy, I could live with the money loss. But why take the chance?

I just received my copy of 'timesaver' and it for sure is a copy. One, it is fuzzy, not terribly but if it was legit I would be calling customer service asking for a new one. 2) when you put it in your computer and then click on 'computer' it will say what disk is in all of the drives, well yep, it says undefined RW. Whereas, you put in a Cathe disc and it will say Cathe. So I guess I will write over to customer service and give them the name if the person who sold it to me. Why can't people be honest?

Gosh , you guys have me not wanting to get rid of anything on e-bay..

Not all are bad sellers////////. I just clean house at times from ones i don't use ...

I didn't mean to make you worry. As I mentioned I had already felt leary of him before I made the purchase for different reasons. I have ordered another Cathe dvd off of ebay and it for sure is a perfect authentic copy. I didn't mean to infer at all that all those who are selling cathe on ebay are selling bootleg. Sorry. Also, another way, aside from the RW on the title, that you can tell if it is a 'fake' is if you can burn it it is a copy. I burned the one I just got just to see. You can't burn an original Cathe.

I just picked up a couple of DVDs for a good price on eBay. Both used from a seller that is just a regular person selling stuff. It's much safer to buy DVDs from a person that is just clearing out their shelves and it's fairly easy to tell who those people are.

First thing I do is look at what else they're selling. If they're selling a big variety of stuff or just 2 or 3 things at a time, that's a good feeling for me.

Second is a low eBay score. Not terribly low like 14, but somewhere under 1000 over the course of several years.

Third, I look at their feedback. Even if no negatives or neutrals, I'll look at them and scan what they've been selling. Multiple copies of the same item are a flag for me to look closer.

And last, I look at the auction itself. I look for signs of a real person that typed in the description. Not that all that use auction posting software are out to get you, but if somebody's taking the time to type things in, they're probably legit. I look for reasons the DVD is being sold. "I tried it and I just don't like it." Or "I bought a new step and this DVD came with it. I already have this DVD." Stuff like that.

Unfortunately, before I got hip to the gig, I probably ended up with some boot leg copies. I can't tell, though, by looking at them. They're good sound and video quality, not fuzzy, don't skip, and look like the ones I know for sure are legit. I'm just careful and use my system above before bidding.

I agree with all of the tips April mentioned. One other thing I look at is the shipping cost. It should NOT cost anyone(shipping between the contiguous 48 states) $8.00 to ship one DVD. A lot of these bootleg DVD auctions have an incredibly low starting bid(.99)but their flat shipping cost is outrageous.

I have sold A LOT of DVDs on eBay and it has never cost me more than $3.00 for one DVD(with deliverey confirmation.) Even when I ship to Canada it doesn't cost me that much.

So, now, whenever I consider purchasing a DVD from eBay the first thing I do is scroll through all of the shipping costs. Anything over 3-4 dollars is a red flag to me.

I'm guessing they have these high shipping costs because eBay gets a percentage of the sale price, but not a percentage of the shipping cost, so they make their money without sharing as much with eBay.

I've noticed this with those sellers as well. I sell a lot of my used workout DVDs on eBay and I never charge much for shipping. In fact, sometimes I underestimate and lose a little on shipping. Oops. So probably if you saw my listings you could recognize that I was a regular person just reselling some of my little-used collection. Everything April said was right on as far as finding legit sellers.

I also think sometimes if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. I mean, I might start a Cathe DVD at a low price, but it's going to shoot up before the auction closes, and if I listed it at a "buy it now" price, it wouldn't be less than $10, even used. The first counterfeit DVD I got on eBay was Timesaver for $9.99. I got that money back and then bought the legit Timesaver elsewhere.
