Cathe..Bone loss and weight training question

I've always heard that weight training can help prevent bone loss. Is there any special kind of lifting such as endurance type work or slower lifting with less reps?

weight-bearing exercise

Hi Nancy! I'm not Cathe, but I'm qualified to answer this I suppose

ANY type of weight bearing exercise, including aerobic and resistance training, can help prevent bone loss. As long as you have to "carry" your body weight during the exercise, it'll prevent bone loss and weight training is an added plus. As for special technique...I don't believe it really matters, but if anyone else has any other information I'd love to hear it!

Hi Julie!

Thanks for your reply. I had always assumed that but was never sure since for the past few months it seems some of the books I read on building bone seem to give slower lifting and less reps as the bone builders. In my opinion, I figure as long as you're lifting your bones are getting some benefit but I thought it wouldn't hurt to double check and ask. Thanks!
