Hello Friends,
I hope all is well with you. I just did basic step and a segment of total body stretching, which was really good. Off to work, have a great day! No more ding dongs!:p:rolleyes:

Hi there! I just posted a big message on your original thread. I'd like to check in with you guys. This morning I did Kickin' Core - a Turbo Jam workout.

Welcome everyone! I'm glad we have a few more to join us!

Soon2bfit - Could you give me an example of your daily menu? I'm trying to do the clean eating thing - I basically don't eat any white flour either (I'm actually gluten intolerant anyway) and stick to veggies, fruits, brown rice, chicken, egg whites, etc. I'm trying a few recipies out of the Eat-Clean Diet cookbook here and there with some success. However, the one I made last night was pretty yucky! I will have to eat it all week because I am just not capable of throwing away food though! :p Anyway, I don't actually count calories because it makes me crazy but I do keep tabs on them in a way I guess. I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds...I've never really had a weight issue just trying to get in really great shape and see some muscle definition and, from what I've read here, that takes serious clean eating.

I have Step Blast scheduled for today but we have had a little cold circulating in our house the last couple of days and I'm feeling a little sluggish today so I don't know if I should push it or not.

Hey Lisa! Ding Dongs - 360? Wow I never would have guessed the calorie count was that high but I haven't had one for a looooong time! Don't worry, we have to treat ourselves once in a while right? Good job getting up early to work out!

Good job on those morning workouts! Way to get back into things after the weekend.

I did a little intro on the original thread. I am hoping to become a true Cathelete!

I typically work out after work, but I love the morning check-in to hold me accountable.

Tonight I'll do a 60min beach walk with the dog with a few intensity intervals. I'm loving my new heart rate monitor.

In the mean time, I bike 15min each way to and from work, and and friend and I hit the sand for a 45min walk during our lunch hour, so I'll burn a few calories during the day.

I'd love to see some of your favorite clean recipes as well. I'll look up some of my favorites and post soon.

Sample menu

Lovetostep24 here you go, it's not all that glamourus.

Morning i mix in a blender: 3/4 cup oats, 1 1/2 scoop wheybolic 60 protein power, 1/2 cup oj, 1 1/2 cup frozen berries ( ibuy @ Costco) 1 tablespoon Udo's Choice 3-6-9 Oil, I also throw in a calcium supplement and L-Carntine, water or ice as needed to adjust thickness. That's about 700 calories.

My other meals are not exciting at all.

tuna/spring salad mix/salad veggies/rice vinegar/baked potatoe or yam. I steam them in micro and they come out GREAT!!

chicken/salad and veggies(as above)/ only non fat dressing and very little not even 1 teaspoon/ brown rice

salmon/salad /veggies.

Egg Beaters/veggies/potaTOE

I eat a lot of fish and shell fish and pretty much lots of greens.

I also eat

natural peanut butter w whole wheat toast

whole wheat pasta w/ veggies

cream of wheat made with non fat milk

Oatmeal plain no sugar with non fat milk

Fage Greek Yogart 0%/Non fat cottage cheese

Other non fat organic yogart

Odwalla Bars

I read a book Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle and that's is where I learned about clean eating/carb loading etc.

Things I don't eat: stuff from a box, crackers, rice cakes, cold cereal, bread, anything made with white flour, pasta, etc Anything made in a sauce uncless it's tomatoe, no marsala, piccata, no cream or dairy products unless they are non fat.

I keep my diet 50% carbs, 30% protein, 20% fat. I try to have only 1/3 of my carbs be simple carbs (fruit) and most of my fat from essential fat (udo's oil)

Thanks for providing that soon2bfit! It's really helpful. Okay, now maybe some questions that may seem silly to you but I'm totally serious... Is your diet something that you've started recently? Do you feel like it has really made a big difference in the way you look or are you doing it to be as healthy as you can be - does that make sense? How do you do this with a family? Do they eat what you eat or do you make separate meals for them? I feel like I'm doing pretty well with the diet but I'm not where you are...I do fine for breakfast and lunch and snacks but dinner is difficult because I'm cooking for everyone. My other problem is sugar. I don't eat sugary things per se, but I love things like oatmeal, tea etc. to be sweet. I really need to cut back on that I know. So I'm curious to know if you went cold-turkey with your diet or if it was a process for you.

Thanks again for the info-

Natalie,

I can't speak for anyone else, but clean eating is a LONG process. I started with the clean eating and exercise thing after my son was born in 2004. I am just now totally getting it. There is so much to learn about it! I am no where near perfect either. I, too, read Burn the fat feed the muscle. It was great for learning!

I haven't worked out today. I was supposed to have a taekwondo class tonight, but they are testing for belts so it was cancelled. Of course, they didn't tell me till 5 this evening that my 745 class was not happening. WIth 3 kids under my feet, I have to workout at home in the mornings. Had I known about my class earlier, I would have done basic step this morning. GRR!!!!

Tomorrow I am doing week 1 day 2 of the couch to 5k program. My shins are KILLING me.

Thanks Jessica! I guess I need to look into that book!

I forgot to post that I did get to my workout today. I did Step Blast - LOVE IT!

I hope everyone had a great day! Talk to you tomorrow!

Natalie,

It's definetly a process. Although I have not been working out long or often yet, I have always been a pretty good eater. Don't get me wrong there have been days where I go totally off the wagon and believe me I feel it. I am trying to be as healthy as I can be for myself and my children. I don't make separate dinners for my family. My husband is not so much of a cleran eater but my kids are. My pediatrician once told me not to go crazy making separate meals for everyone to offer them lean proteins, veggies, whole grains and no desserts unless it is a birthday or some other celebration. My son pretty much goes along with it because that is the way it has always been for him (his dad used to travel 100% for work and was never around to let my son see what he eats). My daughter on the other hand puts up a stink from time to time. I don't intentionally serve them things they don't like I try to have their favorites available. My son loves brocalli my daughter hates it, she likes carrots. So I just try to have clean food available that they both like. If im making fish it's easy enough to make salmon and tilapia or someother whitefish. I just wrap them separately in tin foil. My kids will dip their raw veggies in dip made with yogart or salad dressing but I pass on the dressings.

As far as seeing a difference I definetly notice a difference in how I feel in relation to what I eat. Since I eat pretty clean in general when I start to workout I see a big difference almost immediately. Just recently over 6 weeks I lost almost 5 pounds and got my body fat down to 15.4% I got weighed in a tank and also got measured using caliphers. I did not change what I ate during that time just started working out. On the flip side if I step off from the clean eating for a few days (vacation) I gain weight immediately.

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle is an E Book and supposedly there is a version by the same author Tom Venuto due out in book stores in January 2009. If you get the online book I think it's 40$ and you get lifetime updates free. It is worth every penny.

If you like things sweet and you want to cut out the sugar what I would do is start cutting back but do it at a pace you can tolerate. No need to go cold turkey. For example figure out how much sugar you normally would use in your oatmeal and then start cutting back. If you use a tablespoon cut it back to 3/4 of a table spoon, or even just a little less than a tablespoo. Keep it at that level for a week or so untillyou feel liike you're ready to reduce it further. I can go nuts with sugar so I don't even use it because it would be like having sugar with oatmeal. Pick one thing to work on at a time so you don't feel deprived. If you can get the book read it and figure out how you can make clean eating fit into your lifestyle so you get the most out of it.

Good luck! Now I so want to eat some cookies!!!

Hope this helps!
