please go back to your physical therapist again. DOes s/he know you are also doing other workouts besides the exercises s/he set you?
It may be that you are doing too much too soon. Don't try to rush the healing process. I know it is infuriating to be out of the game and moving soo slowly it seems, but you have the rest of your life to workout, so you can afford to take the time to build a solid foundation now. Baby those knees.
I don't think anyone can tell you how long it will take to heal your knees. This is such an individual thing. And I am sure that the overall state of your health, including a high nutrition diet and a reduction in stress (remembering your recent post on stress) would be factors in there too.
Has your PT recommended any stretching or yoga tapes for you to add to your program? You might think about it. It would have the added benefit of calming your mind, so you don't rush the healing process, and reduce the levels of cortisol (stress hormones) running around the body, to facilitate greater healing.
