Carole, how long do you freestyle

Tallchick

Cathlete
I ordered a George Snyder book this week but I have a question and I cannot wait for it's arrival (I hope it is a good delivery) and you are so great about answering the questions.
I am wondering how long you dedicate to your lower body daily? I mean, your upper body looks great and I cannot imagine you are ignoring it, but it seems that giving so much time to the lower body would cause the upper body to be ignored.
How much to you dedicate to aerobics?
Thank you again and again!
Kate

Kate-great question! I have my local library working on getting me an inter-library loan on this book so I can check it out before I buy it. I also have many questions, including my worry that you'd spend so much time on your leg work that upper would falter. I can't wait to see the book, and the answer to this question.

Gayle

You are getting to borrow this book---very cool, indeed. I wish I had thought of that. Well, I have to admit, I am kindof lazy and getting to our library is sort of a hassle.

Hi Kate...and Gayle. I'd say daily I dedicate about 45 min to and hour to lower body whether doing Freestlye exercises from the book or one of Cathe's workouts modified. Thank you! And no I am not ignoring my upper body. I don't do what Freestyle says for upper body. What has always worked for me is each body part of upper 3 times a week. I might do extra shoulder work as that is my favorite! As for aerobics, I run 3 times a week (long run of 12-16 miles on Sunday) I do kickbox on mon, circuit on wed, one of the Imaxes or another interval workout on fri and have found just doing weights and no cardio on Sat makes for a stronger run on Sunday. Hope this helps...:)...Carole

Hi - I'm still fairly new to this site. I have been stalking for a couple of weeks now and I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts and learning so much.

Can you describe freestyle training to me or do I need to buy the book? The NYC library does not carry these books. Do you do one exercise for the lower body per day or is it various exercises everyday? Is it a certain amount of reps or just some type of timed exercise? I would love to lean-up this lower body. Thank you. :) :)

Thank you Carole, of course it helps, you always help. I know I have said it before, and I will say it again and again----you are sooo wonderful!

Nancy,
I suggest you do a search here on "freestyle" and read what pops up. There have been quite a few posts in the last couple of months. I'm sure you'd get a lot of your questions answered there.

Carole-if you don't mind yet ANOTHER question...when do you do your weight work? What days? Do you split workouts during the day?

Your cardio schedule sounds a LOT like mine, but I'm curious about your weight work.

Here's what I do: (been doing since starting to train for a January Marathon)

Mon: all step workout, plus upper body weights split
Tues: 3-5 mile run, plus lower body weights
Wed: IMax, plus upper body weights (other half of split)
Thurs: 3-5 mile run, core work
Fri: all step workout (thinking of adding in a total body weight w/o)
Sat: rest
Sun: long run (this weekend will be 10 miles)

with core work thrown in here and there!

Thanks for all your help!

Gayle

Nancy...I have a thread about Freestyle bookmarked if it works...: http://69.0.137.118/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=179092&mesg_id=179092&page=7

Kate....thank you...:)...you are so sweet and I never mind helping.

Gayle...I'll try and give you my weight work rotation:

Mon: Freestyle legs, abs in the morning. Shoulders, bi's, tris in the afternoon.
Tues: For Freestyle I do Power Half Hour Bun Shaper with 1 lb ankle weights, Chest & back and sometimes abs.
Wed: The Circuit works the whole body but of course with light weights.
Thurs: For Freestlye legs I do a Cathe with floorwork (GS Legs, PLB, PS Legs, L&G) if I run out of time I do the floorwork on friday. Also shoulders, bi's and tri's and maybe abs.
Fri: Chest & back, abs.
Sat: Freestyle legs (usually a Cathe modified) Shoulders, bi's and tri's, and abs.
Sun:...no weights, just the long run.

Your rotation looks good...:)...you could add a total weight day on Friday with your rest day being Sat, but see how you feel. Where is your marathon? You might want to back off on the weight training about a month before. That has always helped me....:)...Carole

It's really possible to do Freestyle with way less than 45-1 hour every day. You can do a lot with 20 minutes-30 tops. I have the absolutely the worst legs to shape up and tried everything for 10 years before settling on what I'm doing now. Sometimes less is better, especially if you're committing to something new. Exercise does not have to be a second job, with all due respect. I set up programs for people all the time, and the ones who can stick with it are the ones who "get" it that you spend only as much time as you need to produce results.
Just Do It! :)

I'm doing freestyle right now(well I have to take 2 weeks off because I just had varicose vein surgery last week) and I have George Synder's book and it takes me about 30 minutes to do 5 different leg exercises at 15 reps(per leg). I use no weigths on the lunging exercises, but I do use light weights for squats and good mornings.

I'll be honest and say that there have been days when I've done some freestlye workouts in 30 min, but normally if I do 6 leg exercises, and 4 sets of 20 it can be closer to 45 min....:)...Carole

LOL! i just wanted to say that the title of this thread makes it sound like Carole is a hip-hop dancer:+ :7

Carole would you consider putting up full-body pics? I'm sure your legs must look incredible. I'd put up mine but I'm just a C.U.C (Catheite under construction).

Marla:p

Carole, thank you. I was having a hard time finding something as complete as this thread. I'm going to try it and let you know how I do. Now if I can get off this computer and start exercising....lol.
