Cardio & Weights

I'm starting my intensity series as it arrived late last week.

Did Cardio & Weights this morning and it was really easy...I kept waiting for the challenge.

Does anyone else find this DVD too easy?

Should I up raise the step to 8" next time and use heavier dumbbells? I matched Cathe's suggestions for weight today, but didn't feel the challenge...

Back to IMax2 tomorrow...that kicks my butt!

I had also found Cardio & Weights easy. I think it is just a slower pace. You could try raising the step or going heavier on the dumbbells. I usually find I just don't pick that one to do...:(...I know there are others here that love it!

As for Imax2...one of my favorites...:7 ....Carole

I use 8 inches on my step. C&W is such a fun wrkout though. I use it on days when motivating is lacking.

I am about to do this one, mainly because I have a slight head cold and headache. This one is perfect for days like this. Plus, it's my upperbody day and I find the weight sections in this to be pretty fatiguing. I go heavy on the weights and it makes the cardio more challenging. So, I don't think this is easy. It's just not killer Cathe. I feel the same about HSTA. It's kind of flat compared to her others. But once again, it's good for low ambition days.

I like C& W but I think that it is easy.I could not live without bootcamp,ME, IMAX 2 or the pyramids but I could live without C &W.I do not regret to have it but I do not need this workout.

Okay, I will raise the step to 8" next time I do C&W and up the dumbbell poundage.

I did IMax2 this morning - i LOVE this workout....tomorrow I will be attending Boot Camp for the first time.

Wish me luck!

I do this workout on an 8" step and use 15's for shoulders and bis, 20's for back and chest, and 12's for tris. I aslo go heavier during the compound segments.

Another fun workout is to do the step only premix, then do the heavy premix 2x's. I prefer it this way.

Yes I find it easy, but I still use it quite a bit. Most of the time I do the cardio and compound only premix and do some short intense cardio workout around 20 min. in length as an add on. When I do the whole thing it is usually along with something like ME upper split. I too use an 8 inch step and heavier weights.

I too found this one too easy. I never use it as is. I think I did it twice, way back when I first got it. But I do use the All step premix as a light cardio before legs, and I use the abs workout alone a lot after a cardio. I never do the upper and lower body stuff, except in Imax Extreme or is it Gauntlet, Viper? One of those has CW in it.

Even with 8", it is just too easy. But fun, definitely fun.

I'm curious as to whether most folks use 8in or 6in on the step workouts, or change it up depending on the workout. I notice Cathe uses 6in quite a bit, and I've always just used 8. I'd be interested in some responses as to which workouts you use what amount of step inches! Also, I'm one who is choreographically challenged (it takes me a while to figure out fancy footwork, and I tend to ignore workouts that are so hard to learn that I can't get a good workout right away), does it make a lot of difference if you lower the risers? I'm too impatient to test this, but would appreciate hearing from those who have!

I always go 6", because I'm only 5'2 and anything higher kills my knees. C&W is a bit easier but it's alot of fun.

I always use 8 in. I think Cathe uses 6 in. so she can talk and cue and not get too winded. I find I trip more if my step is lower. I get a better workout with 8.

I actually find this one fairly difficult (am I the only one?) I think it is because I usually keep cardio and weights separate. I can work intensely with both when separate, but when alternating between them, find I get quite fatigued. Probably means I should do more circuits!

I'm with you Sharon. Granted, I'm not as advanced as a lot of people on the forum, but even when I'm really in shape I don't find C&W "easy". Easier than some of Cathe's other workouts maybe, but definitely not easy. Just so you know you're not alone!

I did C&W this morning and decided to try it as suggested with an 8 inch step. I had to stop twice to wipe the sweat off my face so I could see. It was burning my eyes. I had done it Monday and it was a bit easier on the 6 inch step. So as Cathe would say, "Modify, modify, modify!" We are an educated crowd! Thanks for the advice. I am looking forward to sweating buckets again on Friday.

RE: Cardio & Weights...revisited

I did C & W again this morning. I raised the step to 8", and for the most part kept the weights to whatever Cathe was using.

This ended up being a perfect workout for me...I finished up with a mini ab marathon.

All in all, a great workout. I guess it is all about finding the perfect fit in each and every workout.

I think Cardio and Weights is a great workout. Back in the 80's and 90's, when I was an "Aerobic Diva", if the instructor didn't have us begging for mercy by the end of the class, we thought we didn't get a good workout. Experience and injuries have taught me otherwise. This workout has value for every fitness level.

C&W was the first Cathe step routine that I learned, and so when it got easy, I thought I was just getting better! Oh well, I still use it fairly often because it's pure fun and I love "3 squats turning." :p
